Publisher's summary

A Duke in Retreat
Gina was forced into marriage with the Duke of Girton at an age when she'd have been better off in a schoolroom than a ballroom. Directly after the ceremony, her handsome spouse promptly fled to the continent, leaving the marriage unconsummated and Gina quite indignant.

A Lady in the Middle
Now, she is one of the most well-known ladies in London... living on the edge of scandal - desired by many men, but resisting giving herself to any one.

A Duchess in Love

Finally, Camden, the Duke of Girton, has returned home, to discover that his naïve bride has blossomed into the toast of the town... which leaves Cam in the most uncomfortable position of discovering that he has the bad manners to be falling in love - with his own wife!

This was just okay.

This book was just okay. It was too long and wordy. There were about 3 stories being told in one book. There was nothing exciting, nor were there any omg moments.. I thought the ending was drab.

Credit worthy? not really, it was pretty much a waste of time compared some stories. I struggled to get through this long story.

The narrator did a fine job. Justine Eyre so you know what your going to get listening to her narrations.

Dull and dumb

I like historical romances and really do not expect a lot of plot to them. But this book is just a dull story of silly women manipulating the men in their lives. Save your time and credit and skip this one.

Narrator makes this for me unlistenable

I don’t like the nasally tone of the narrator. Almost like pretending to speak with British accent

Delightful Romance Weaving Conplex Web of Partners

Though this is primarily the story of Gina and Camden, who were forced to marry when Gina was 11, it is actually a light bit of "musical chairs" where husbands and wives who have abandoned each other come together and then break apart and then...find each other in different ways. Gina has spent her time becoming the gracious Duchess of Girton, while Cam has been sculpting nude statues in Greece. He comes home to England to annul the marriage, but of course it gets complicated. The love scenes between Duke and Duchess are particularly enjoyable for the way that Cam brings out the "wicked" side of the Duchess's personality. Meanwhile Gina's two close friends are pursuing complexities of their own between husbands and lovers. A delightful read.

Mixed Feelings

I am a big fan of Eloisa James and have read many of her novels; however, this is my first (and perhaps the last) of her audio books. I didn’t care for the voice of her most popular narrator so picked this one as an alternative.

The narrator has a lovely voice and the female voices were good for the most part, but I disliked most of the male voices, especially of the main male character, Camden. It was difficult for me to get to the end with that being the case but I liked the story so stuck with it.

Girlfriends

The characters are pretty fun, the narrator is wonderful. The women are by and large good people with messed up decisions or circumstances. But you know, they're all fairly likeable and it's fun to hear how they get in and out of trouble. While predictable it's still a fun book to listen to.

Crazy Love

If you could sum up Duchess in Love in three words, what would they be?

Funny, gripping and delightful

What was one of the most memorable moments of Duchess in Love?

When Emis husband died in her room the first and only night she slept with him in hopes to have a legitimate heir. OMG it was a laugh out loud moment, even though I felt bad for the poor man... The circumstances leading up to the events, were too funny...

Have you listened to any of Justine Eyre’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is pretty good. I enjoy her.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Carola confessed her love to Topey.

Any additional comments?

The "Man of Business" was assigned a tough task. He deserved a raised after the painfully embarrassing situation in which he found himself. The HOT Bath was definitely a good choice. The love scenes were mild but nice. The lack of Steamy love scenes did not diminish my enjoyment. But, I did miss them.

I liked it mostly

A bit wordy and slightly overwritten but overall good. Cam was a tad hard to like as he was SO self centered. Gina was easy to like but what she saw in that pratt of a Marquis was beyond me.

Lots of secondary stories and characters to keep up with but as this was the first of a series it started a lot of stories.

I am a huge fan of Justine Eyre so I think she did a good job.

If you are a fan of Eloisa James you will like this. If you don't know James' work, give it a try.
