Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.
Davina Porter's narrative talent adds a special vibrance and resonance to Gabaldon's complex, colorful characters.

"Gabaldon's range is impressive, whether she's evoking the rawness of colonial America, the cozy clutter of a modern Scottish parsonage, the lusts of the body or the yearnings of the spirit. Her legion of fans will love diving into this ocean of romance." (Publishers Weekly)
Glad to be part of the audible community and I hope that my reviews help to choose the right book and share my love of reading.
As always Diana Gabaldon has done her research. I enjoy the medical background, as well as the historical and human aspects of the stories and also this book.
I like the reunion of all three beloved characters (sorry for spoiler).
Davina Porter does a great job, she is so talented and makes the characters come alive! I love her melodic voice!
Nope - no extreme reactions, just enjoyed it
Worth a credit. The writing is sublime, you will like the characters. Sometimes the story line is a bit "unbelievable" and makes me roll my eyes, but I am overall hooked to the series.
I like the series, but this is the first time i have listened to a book in a long time that i truly wished it was abridged. The book is littered with so may gratiutous sex scenes that it makes you wonder who the author is trying to write to. In sum, not as good as the previous books, but still worthwhile if you have lots of time to kill.
I'm a teen; my favorites series are Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and Twilight by Stephene Meyer.
This book series is awesome. Although I've never listened to abridged, I don't feel encouraged to buy them, and if they aren't on here soon, I will be forced to go the library :( I hate when that happens, but this book is awesome. Get the first one, Outsider, and read them in order though. Otherwise it'd be really confusing!!!
I've read all the books, and have my own pictures going on in my head. (I'm not sure that I'd want to see any of it made into a movie...) Gabaldon's storytelling is incredibly rich, and the amount of research she does is simply staggering. To top it off, Davina Porter's reading is outstanding - her rendition only enhances the experience. One of the numerous amazing aspects of her interpretation is her consistency in the different character voices. (And as a voice/lyric diction professor, I appreciate that even her French pronunciation is good.)
These characters have been keeping me company on my almost-every weekend commute (3-hours each way) to see my husband. I've now finished up through Drums of Autumn in audio......pleasepleaseplease bring us Fiery Cross and Breath of Snow and Ashes soon! :) Meanwhile, I'll content myself with the Lord John series.
Have enjoyed re experiencing this book through listening and refreshing myself with this ongoing wonderful story. The narrator is just superb, how she does it I don't know. She just adds to the book. Any author who has her for a narrator is really lucky.
This is a very long audio book. It went surprisingly fast, almost too fast. If you have read or listened to any of the other books in this series you won't want to miss this one. Davina Porter continues her masterful performance and is a joy to listen too.
This was really an excellant book.I'm spoiled for good now. The action left you breathless with wondering what could possibly happen next. Outrageous events were so flawlessly right for each character, and a lot of the questions that were brought up in the first 3 books was finally resolved. I can't wait to see what whill happen to Briana, Roger, and Ian in the next installments.
Bookaholic. Favorite authors- Agatha Christie, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert A Heinlein.
Great story. I can't wait for the next two books to be made available by Audible in the unabridged version.
Just Another Audiobook Addict! Love listening to all types of romances, but occasionally need a good Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or a book with humor!
Yes, the audio edition is much better than the print. However, because this story is so long, I actually used whisper sync and alternated between reading and listening to the story. It went much quicker than just listening to the story alone.
I loved the different POV's.
My favorite characters are Jamie, Robert, Ian, Claire and of course Rollo the dog.
I'm hooked and will have to download book five soon.
My name is Devyn, I am a mother, wife and blogger. Love to read.
I would, it was a little slow for me in the beginning, but I loved that this story had a lot more of Brianna and Roger and their love story too. I also love to hate Stephen Bonnett.
Her descriptions are very vivid... she keeps things very interesting.
I had a hard time stopping during the last 20 chapters.
This book was not my favorite in the series by any means, but it is a necessary part of the story where many questions are answered and this was something that needed to be done. Although most of this story could have been cleared up if all of the characters were open and honest it was done well with the way she decided to have things unfold. My Only frustration with this book was that I felt things were dragged out too long, but in the end I look forward to book 5 and seeing the story continue.
"well written and spoken"
The authoress has managed to captivate the continuing adventures of this historical drama about a hi lander
"Continuing the Awesomeness"
I really enjoy the narrator's performance of this book so I would say I prefer it to reading in other formats
[spoiler alert] the re-uniting of Brianna and her parents was one of the most memorable moment along with her giving birth.
She captures the characters so well and each has their own voice and style
I laughed and cried along with a variety of moments of this book. It is often an emotive read reading these books. I was sad when Ian stayed with the tribe and delighted that Brianna stayed and gave birth to her child with Claire and Jamie's assistance
"Claire & Jamie Saga continues!"
This is book 4 of the time travel Outlander series of adventures of Claire Randall and highlander Jamie Fraser. I have read all seven books and listened to them on disc and via Audible as well. Can't wait for book eight!
I must say that Davina Porter's voice gives me the hump so I decided to read this episode in paperback, but I am addicted to listening and in the end I gave in and got this audio version.
A compelling story - I was there with them in this 'other time' - but long winded and frustrating in places. However, this one and the first in the series are my favourites so far.
I'll echo other reviewers and ask audible not to keep us waiting too long for the unabridged no. 5.
"And the next one??"
I have loved nearly every minute of these novels. Sometimes they are too cheesy, sometimes the sex is a bit too much, but as I listened to the last few minutes of this epic audio experience I felt quite bereft. Has Davina Porter recorded an unabridged version of Book 5??
I have been waiting for ages for this book to be available from Audible as I have already listened to the three previous ones. I have read all the books in the series but it is such a pleasure to be able to listen to this wonderful story told so brilliantly by Davinia Porter. Well done Audible for adding this to your library. I look forward to seeing the next two books in your library soon!!
