Publisher's summary

Diana Gabaldon's fans will be delighted to find Jamie and Claire as spirited and endearing as ever in this fourth installment of this magnificent saga. Romance, history, and time travel blend once again as the couple builds a new life together in the wilderness of pre-Revolutionary America.

Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

Davina Porter's narrative talent adds a special vibrance and resonance to Gabaldon's complex, colorful characters.

Critic reviews

"Gabaldon's range is impressive, whether she's evoking the rawness of colonial America, the cozy clutter of a modern Scottish parsonage, the lusts of the body or the yearnings of the spirit. Her legion of fans will love diving into this ocean of romance." ( Publishers Weekly)

Featured Article: Claire Fraser—An Outlander Character Guide

Claire Fraser is the central character, first-person narrator, and driving force of Diana Gabaldon's epic Outlander series. As ambitious and enormous as the world of Outlander is, it’s the characters and their relationships that make the story so compelling. At its heart is the love shared between Claire and Jamie, two people who ultimately would not let time or distance—even hundreds of years—keep them apart.

Lirical. So incredible descriptions of surroundings, visual imaginings of the characters world and their thoughts.

Best yet!

This is the very BEST of the Outlander series thus far! It is very suspenseful and unpredictable, I couldn't stop listening. Its definitely 5 stars! It leaves no real cliff hanger for the next book in the series, but I am still excited to see what's next.

The Outlander saga continues

Men in kilts, pirates, Indians and steamy sex- what more can you want from an adventure/romance? The voice of Davina Porter, that's what. People who rely on text only just don't know what they're missing.

Men

The female voices are excellent. The male not so much. Jamie's in particular does not sound strong enough for such a big man.

Not as good as the others but...

I got the feeling this was just a bridge book between the last and the next books. The first several parts are just back ground info, setting you up for what happens in the last part or two. I did find the whole Briana, Roger romance exciting! so that keeps the book pushing forward at least. I didn't think it was as emotionally charged at DiA or Voyager, but still worth the credits to listen. Davina Porter is as always unbelievable! Great humor, great prose, great love scenes, great and believeable characters.
