Publisher's summary

Miranda Puckett has failed at every job she’s ever had. Her mother just wants her to come home, join the family law firm, and settle down with Jason, the perfect lawyer boyfriend. But when Jason turns out to be a lying cheater, Miranda seizes on a job that gets her out of town: long-distance vampire transportation.

Her first assignment is to drive vampire Collin Sutherland from Washington to sleepy Half Moon Hollow without incident—no small feat for a woman whom trouble seems to follow like a faithful hound dog! And she has to do it without letting her passenger—the most persnickety, stuffy, devastatingly handsome vamp she’s ever met—drive her crazy. As she and Collin find disaster on the roads, they also find an undeniable spark between them. Could Miranda have found the perfect job and the perfect guy for her?

Great fun!

This book was one that I could not stop listening to. It is full of antics and quite unlikely scenario's, but I found that since my imagination was guided into a world of vampires, antics seemed quite possible, and even probable. I found myself rooting for the main characters hoping they could get ahead. For an escape from my daily grind and a touch of laughter, this book did not dissappoint.

If you're looking for a literary masterpiece, this book might not be just the thing. But if you're looking for just a simple, enjoyable experience, try it!

Accident Prone Meets a Vampire

What did you love best about Driving Mr. Dead?

Molly Harper has an odd sense of humor that makes me giggle from the beginning of her books until the end. This was no exception.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The lead character. She has amazingly bad luck. It is fun to watch her figure her way around her problems. She isn't always successful, but it is a fun read.

What about Amanda Ronconi’s performance did you like?

Ms. Ronconi is adept at reading such sarcastic humor in just the right way. I cannot imagine anyone else reading books by Ms. Harper. They are a perfect fit!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I certainly finished the book in one day, but not all at one time. It was a great book to read while I packed up my house for moving. It made my move seem much less daunting!

Any additional comments?

I wish the book had been longer. The plot line fleshed-out a bit more. For instance, why was the boyfriend so unwilling to break up with our main character? But that is just me. The longer a book, the better I like it. I hope that there are follow-up books to this one. I'd love to see what other dilemmas the main character can encounter! Thanks for another fun listen.

Fun Detour from normal human/vampire stories

First of all, the cover looks nothing like the female protagonist. Miranda is much more likable, approachable, and the type of person you would want as your best friend. She is hilariously funny in an unintentional way. Her sense of humor is equally awesome. I will read/listen to this book again, soon. I have an odd sense of luck and could totally find myself embroiled in the series of unfortunate mishaps that have, and do, befall Miranda. Collin is equally awesome as the unfriendly, demanding, unemotional vampire Miranda must spend several days with transporting him long distance. The conversations beetween them often me laugh so hard, alone in my car, that I am sure people could hear me at stop lights through my closed windows. The story was great and the narration awesome. Perfect pairing for me. Definitely going to try other Molly Harper books!!!

Enjoyable light reading

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to all my romantic comedy, vampire loving fellow readers. It's got the love, the humor, the fangs... too bad it was lacking a bit of mystery but I guess it couldn't have been added in such a short book

What other book might you compare Driving Mr. Dead to and why?

All the other books from the author have the same exact imprint

Which character – as performed by Amanda Ronconi – was your favorite?

Definitely the main character

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

At some points it made me laugh, especially when it talked about the first car incident the author had.

Any additional comments?

Never change the narrator in this series, she just made the book so much more enjoyable, entertaining and especially funny! I just wish this had been elaborate on a bit more, the love story, a bit more mystery... some blood ... this is after all a vampire novel, isn't it? Besides the fact that the vamp was sleeping in a compartment during the day he was pretty much stripped of his most appealing vampirish capabilities... that's too bad.

More, please.

Where does Driving Mr. Dead rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In our top 10.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My daughters and I listened to this book together. I and my younger daughter choose Collin, and my older daughter chooses Miranda. Though the story is told from Miranda's pov and you get all the little insights of how her mind works and twists and wobbles, it is Colin's behaviour that gives truth to the story. All he can do is react and react he does. It may appear odd and sometimes even not a very nice reaction but his reactions are honest and remain in character.

Which scene was your favorite?

When they find themselves without a car and lost. I won't spoil it for anyone. Listen and hear for yourself.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Who knew being dead could be so life affirming?

Any additional comments?

Give it a listen. The narrator comes over as quite comfortable with the asides and brain farts of the characters that you feel like you're hearing the story over a drink or coffee from a beloved if ditzy girlfriend. She invites you into the story; using the author's words to be sure; but keeps you there by her vocal creations of the characters.

Any additional comments?

This book made me laugh so many times. There were times I was laughing so much I had to pause the audio. The narrater is awsome. I have listened to this book 4 times and will keep on listening to it in the future. A good listen if you are feeling down.

More of the same

My headline says it all. In this audiobook you'll find supernatural creatures, Molly Harper's humor, fun storytelling, interesting characters, madcap moments and Amanda Ronconi's flawless narration.

It's not deep or profound but its a great way to spend a commute.
