Modern Western Chicklit
I don't really do that. I see each book and/or series as its own entity. I think that saying it isn't makes less of the work and the author!
This is my first time listening to her! I really enjoyed her performance and will definitely be listening to more of her :)
I did listen to this book in one sitting!
This series must be listened to (or read) in order. This is the first book.
Mims is a famous romance novelist who is kind of sour on love. She believes in it for her characters... Just not a plain Jane like herself. Meeting the cover model Sage from her books sends her info a bit of a tailspin. Her editor and his joke on her just was not amusing! Now she can't write. Needing to finish her book, she books six long weeks at a dude ranch hoping to find real-life inspiration and insight into her modern chicklit western romance. Too bad Fate is conspiring against her! Will she make it to the ranch? Will she get her book written on time? Will she survive the lack of civilization?
Sage hates being a sex symbol. Too bad it pays the bills. What can he do? He has to make a living somehow to keep his ranch and all the land. How did Mims end up on his ranch as a dude? Is someone playing a joke on them? All he knows is that she intrigues him. Will they get along? Or will he lose a paying guest and a cover model job in one fell swoop? Will he win her over? Or send running back to the city?
***This series is suitable for adult listeners (or readers) who enjoy modern romance with chicklit overtones in a western setting filled with fun and second chances while learning to love again and move past tragedies of the past :)
I am a working woman in a man's world but it's ok because I really love being around men !! I've been happily married for 48 years!
I love the fact that it was about cowboys, horses and all things to do with ranches. I grew up watching cowboy shows with my dad and this book brought back a lot of wonderful memories of the Old West Days.
I could compare this book to " A Beautiful Kind of Love" by Ellie Wade as far as the love story goes. Both books "take you along" with the young couples in the books and make you feel as if you are right there in the moment.
Wendy knows how to reflect her voice in such a way that you feel like she is talking to you only. She has a pleasant tone and really is fun to listen to.
If I had the time I could have listened to this book all in one sitting because it was so unpredictable and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.
I am looking forward to hearing more audio books performed by Wendy and written by Verna Clay. They are both "down to earth" regular people. Great book and great narration by Wendy !
My name is Anna and I am from Greece. I am mostly a super crazy Editor, a completely crazy mum of two and of course I LOVE AUDIOBOOKS!!!
Overall the Southern Ranch Romantic Love Story between the writer and the top model, although I would like it a little more 'hot and steamy' it was a wonderful story and made me smile for almost four hours!
The last scene of course...... (no spoilers here you should all read it)
Wendy Rich Stetson is A W E S O M E!!!! of course I fell in love with Sage Tanner, but I really liked Sarah and all the characters equally.
Mostly smiling it is so sweet and all in one listen!
I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts opinions and ratings are my own. I was under no obligation to post a review or give positive feedback.
Thank you very much Verna Clay and of course THANK YOU VERY MUCH Wendy Rich Stetson for this book. I am looking forward for all the others too!!!!!
I enjoyed this listen loved the plot, characters, the twists, and the messes they get into. Poor Sarah cannot get a break if it wasn’t for bad luck she wouldn’t have any luck at all. At least this is the way she see it. You could have knocked her over with a feather when Sage comes riding up to rescue her. The author gives you some humor along with some serious parts. Sarah just wants life back to normal away from this overbearing man. Everyone is so kind on the ranch maybe Sage isn’t as bad as she thinks or maybe she is just out of her mind in pain. Sage isn’t too happy to have her on his ranch either. He was just going along with the ladies can’t she take a joke?
Ms. Stetson narration was wonderful she gave the characters voices and emotions that you could feel. At times I felt sorry for both of them. There is no background noise or any places where it is higher or lower than it should be. You have no trouble knowing what each character is feeling the narrator gives wonderful emotion to her voice. You are never left guessing and it was easy to know who was talking. Her female voices were as good as her males. Ms. Stetson has a very strong rich voice which is smoothing. She made this a wonderful listen as she takes you through each page making you feel like you are part of the read. It was a pleasure listening to her narration.
The author gives you a wonderful plot with great characters and supporting characters. Some you will love and other are just there to get your back up. She throws in a few twists to keep the book interesting. This is a short listen once it starts you are hook and before you know it the book is over leaving you wanting more. I found this to be a believable story which at times is very humorous. I am really looking forward to listening to more audios from this narrator as well as more books from the author. I feel most will enjoy this walking away with a smile.
Say something about yourself!
This was a fun western ranch story that is placed in a modern day lifestyle. The story follows a romance writer who needs inspiration for her book and a cowboy whose priorities are his daughter and managing his ranch while also taking advantage of his "assets" to help provide for his family's future.
I really liked the idea of Sage being the sexy rancher while giving confidence back to Sarah, who is self-conscious author that is more bold and assertive in her books than in her personal life. From a female perspective, many women want to be desired by the "unreachable" and to have that in story form gives a playful edge of "what if?" One of my favorite scenes in the story is the Wagon Train. The author, Verna, provided a fun section of material that makes me think she did a little research on her own in person to create this setting. It almost makes me want to find a dude ranch that does Wagon Train events during the summer!
Verna created a nice light-hearted romance that was just long enough for the story to provide enough "meat" and feel complete but not so overwhelming that this audio needed to be listened to over a period of several days. The audio and literary pace moved along smoothly. The Narrator, Wendy, did a great job on the voices. All the characters were believable and I could picture them to be realistic characters in their setting. Technical aspect of the audio was very good as well. There was no skipping, echo or repeating of words. This was a very clear recording.
All in all, this was a nice romantic story that left several assumptions to the imagination without having to go into descriptive detail. This would be a good audio and book for those who want something light, romantic and leave you feeling fulfilled.
I'm looking forward to listening to more of Verna's Stories and Wendy's characters.
Note: Audio was received in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Sarah meets Sage when he was posing for the cover of her new book. During a coffee break Sage does something to upset Sarah and she runs off upset.
A few months later Sarah sets out to do some research at a dude ranch. The only issue is the ranch is owned by Sage the same guy who made her upset months ago.
From the moment Sage runs into Sarah again sparks start to fly. But can both of them over come the past hurts they have both dealt with?
If you like sweet romance, with a little drama then this book is for you. Beware you will be sucked in and you will want to continue on to book 2, it is that good.
Wendy does an excellent job with all off different voices, and her country twang is spot on. I'm never disappointed with any narration that Wendy does!
I'm an avid reader of Romance and a true romantic at heart. I also read and review in other sub-genres as well. Happy reading!
I listened to the audio version of Dream Kisses. I have listened to Wendy Rich Stetson’s fantastic narration of The Cypress Cove series by JoMarie DeGioia, so when I found out she had narrated this story I quickly agreed to review the recording and book. As always, Wendy Rich Stetson brings life to the characters, especially the cowhands on The Lazy M Dude Ranch!
Sarah Carter writes under the pen name Mims Murphy. When she meets the cover model for her next book, a cowboy western romance, to say they get off on the wrong foot is saying it mildly. When Sarah decides she needs to spend six weeks on a dude ranch for research, the last person she expects to meet again is Sage Tanner, the cover model for her upcoming book.
When Sage Tanner discovers Mims hobbling her way to his ranch, he figures out she must be Sarah Carter, the woman who has come to his property for six weeks. After he gets the injured Sarah to his house and settled on his couch, he calls the doctor so he can take a look at her ankle. Not quite sure how he offended Sarah on their first meeting, Sage is determined to make up for his mistake. He is wildly attracted to Sarah’s curvy little figure and her fiery temper, even when it is directed at him.
Will Sage burrow his way under Sarah’s skin, or will she ignore the attraction between them and play it safe, missing out on what could be a match made in heaven?
Dream Kisses is a fast-paced romantic tale with a hero that is first off gorgeous, second a truly nice guy and third a cowboy. How could you keep from falling in love with him? Sage is a fantastic character, and I liked him right away. He’s basically an uncomplicated guy raising his fourteen year old daughter on his own, while running a cattle/dude ranch and modeling on the side.
Sarah Carter on the other hand is hard to like. To put it mildly, she is totally insecure and comes across bitchy much of the time. Her only redeeming characteristic is her kindness toward Sage’s daughter. I have to question why Sage would fall in love with her to begin with. Her character blows everything way out of portion from the beginning and is constantly second-guessing herself. She doesn’t have a romantic bone in her body. I found it hard to believe such a cynical woman could be a romance author.
On the flip-side, there is chemistry between the pair and by the end of the book, I was rooting for him to win the girl, mainly because he wanted her so badly. I did quite enjoy the secondary characters as well and fell in love with his sweet, fun-loving daughter, Julie.
Ms. Stetson gives a stellar performance, managing all the various characters, giving each one a distinct voice. I particularly loved Newt, one of the ranch hands. I imagine Wendy had a blast working on them. She reads with so much passion, she even had me forgetting at times that I really didn’t like Sarah at all. I highly recommend listening to Ms. Stetson’s narrative. I am sure you will enjoy her style as much as I do. She definitely earns five Gold Crowns easily.
Overall, this is an entertaining read, and I do plan to read the other books in the series. Ms. Clay has an easy to read writing style and her pacing is excellent. Other than the heroine, I liked all the other characters and look forward to visiting with them in the next books in the series. She also does a great job on fade to black love scenes while still keeping the sexual tension building, and I loved the ending. A great finish can cover a multitude of sins. Happy reading!
Dream Kisses was a sweet, low angst story that is perfect to listen to on the beach or weekend afternoon. I was expecting it to have a little more steam factor, specifically towards the end. However, the story wrapped up nicely and ending very heartfelt.
Wendy Stetson did an excellent job and truly brought the story to life, her cowboy voices are smooth and sexy and kept me invested in Sarah and Sage's story. The voices for the ranch hands were well done too!
I am a disabled Medical Technologist who uses books and audio books as a diversion from the pain of Fibromyalgia. I'm happy to review.
At first, I wasn't sure I'd like this book. It seemed like the length was so short that there couldn't possibly be decent character development or a decent story line. Boy was I wrong! You really get to know the characters and appreciate where they are coming from and where they are going.
Sarah is a romance writer that thinks she's not pretty enough or thin enough to possibly attract and keep a man like Sage. Sage was the male model for her latest book cover and has many women wanting to lasso him. When Sarah decides to go to a Dude Ranch to do research for her book, she's totally dismayed to find that the place is owned by Sage. Sage had unknowingly embarrassed her when they had met at the cover shoot. It's Sage's place to convince Sarah that she is very appealing to him and that he wants a relationship with her. Although Sarah thinks he is everything she could ever want in a man, her insecurities may get the best of her.
I really loved the ending of this book. The story was very sweet and very romantic. Wendy Rich Stetson did a fine job with the performance. Overall, a very worthwhile listen.
No spoilers! Love HOT, sexy books w/a plot. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. I also review in exchange for books-lots of fun surprises!
'Mims' is a romance novelist whose book has finally hit the top of the chart. Dream Kisses begins as she is watching the models that will be used for the cover of her book. The male model, Sage is handsome, beautiful and strong. She knows the cover will be fantastic.
After an awkward meeting at the coffee shop after the photo shoot, with her agent and models-'Mims,' whose real name is Sarah, goes back to California to continue to write – but there's always a trace of Sage in her mind.
As Sarah hits writers block, she decides that a good cure may be actual experience, watching cowboys work a ranch. She goes online and signs up for six weeks at a dude ranch.
On her way to the ranch, in the middle of nowhere, her car dies. After a few hours wandering around on a twisted ankle she sees a cowboy on a horse in the distance. Sage rescues Sarah. They are both shocked to meet again and realize that their pseudonyms have met during the photo shoot AND now Sarah and Sage have now met.
This is a cute and sweet [at times eye rolling] romantic book. It follows the two of them during her six weeks stay. We meet the people who are most important to Sage; his daughter and those who help him run the ranch.
This is a very innocent book, one that could be played around anyone. No need for warnings. If you are looking for an alternative to the graphic and profanity laced contemporary romance books, this may be for you.
*I received this book in exchange for my review. It was an enjoyable book with narration by Wendy Rich Stetson - who is always great. I have listened to three other books performed by Stetson and she never let the listener down. She easily flows between male and female characters; from older, hardened voices to the innocence of a budding teen relationship and everything in between. I can't wait for her next book and performance.
