I did not want the book to end!
1. Jessa Labron grows up literally in a fantasy/paranormal bubble. Werewolves, vampires, dragons, wizards, etc.
2. Her best friends are the Compass quadruplets who are next in line to become rulers.
3. Her father is one of the governing rulers, Jessa is unaware of her mother and twin sister who are introduced into the story at Jessa's great surprise.
We are introduced to the lifestyle and rules governing the paranormal society. The book ends in a cliff hanger.
There is some language and minimal romantic scenarios.
I continue to discover new writers with twists on the classic themes. This is indeed one of those. I appreciated that the main character wasn't an outcast or misunderstood but instead had solid relationships and friends. It was refreshing. I enjoyed this read. I recommend it for those who like the alt universe fantasy theme. Not a difficult read at all but fun.
while I have bought and read this series already, it's good enough to read again, and since it has free audible, I had to give it a try, this book came more to life for me, the narrator did a fantastic job with her voice!! I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the series!!
Dragon Marked is one of my new favorites. It has all my favorite elements, mystery and a bit of romance without being dirty. I also find it to be a unique twist on the supernatural world.
There are many memorable moments from beginning to end. The time spent in the prison is especially memorable for both the romance portion and the action side of things. The ending is nice and fast paced making me want to know what happens next!
Dara Rosenberg does a great job of bringing attitude and life to each character. You can really imagine the facial expressions and body movements through her tone and expression.
I'm a big fan of Whispersync! My favorite genre is fantasy, YA and adult, but I'll occasionally listen to/read NA romance or space opera.
This review is from the print version:
This book was pretty fantastic. I was felling pretty book slumpish even though I just got a bunch of top notch books but this book knocked me out of my book slump. It was fun, light hearted, had a great cast of characters, a hint of romance without repressed sexuality, and great world building.
The plot line was a little rough at points, like there were a couple big-plot mysteries that were just solved very quickly and not by the main characters' involvement. I mean, maybe that's intentional but it felt a little anti-climatic.
However, all the other aspects rocked and really carried the book. I received a copy from NetGalley and I actually liked it so much I bought the audiobook after (which just came out) so I can listen to it too. I recommend it to any fans of NA paranormal books.
Audiobook update: The narrator was amazing and I thought the audio version was even better!
