Publisher's summary

Johanna Walker is used to taking charge. But she’s about to meet someone who will make her lose control....

It has always been up to Johanna to care for her family, particularly her younger brother, Cole. With an absent father and a useless mother, she’s been making decisions based on what’s best for Cole for as long as she can remember. She even determines what men to date by how much they can provide for her brother and her, not on whatever sparks may - or may not - fly.

But with Cameron MacCabe, the attraction is undeniable. The sexy new bartender at work gives her butterflies every time she looks at him. And for once, Jo is tempted to put her needs first. Cam is just as obsessed with getting to know Jo, but her walls are too solid to let him get close enough to even try.

Then Cam moves into the flat below Jo’s, and their blistering connection becomes impossible to ignore. Especially since Cam is determined to uncover all of Jo’s secrets...even if it means taking apart her defenses piece by piece.

Absolute Perfection

This book goes hand in hand with "On Dublin Street". First of all, I loved Dublin Street but this book has absolutely blown me away! I was sucked right in and didn't want to stop listening until the end. There is so many emotions that this story brings up. I realized now that I too misjudged Johanna in the first book. Her story is heartbreaking and brings out the love and strength of family, no matter how imperfect. The love scenes were powerful, passionate and perfect (yes the triple P's). The narration is amazing!! Elle Newlands voices were perfection and that accent; YES I must make it to Scotland one day!! I highly highly recommend this book! I'm so grateful that I've had a chance to listen to it and can't wait to listen again. Perfect for driving in the car, housework/gardening, or even monotonous workplaces. No joke, if you like a great romance this book is for you!!

Well I’m pleased to say Samantha Young has done it again! If you liked On Dublin Street then you’re going to love this one too. I was swept away into Johanna’s story and it was so compelling I had to listen to it in one sitting. That’s what I enjoy so much about Ms. Young’s books. The emotion she wraps you into with her writing just sweeps you into another world. The steamy sex scenes aren’t too bad either. So take my advice and use your credit or just purchase this one because it’s just that great!!!

Looooved it!

I was a little hesitant to get this book because I didn’t really care for Johanna’s character from “On Dublin Street”. I must admit the author did a fantastic job of making her a real and sympathetic character.
I fell in love with Johanna and really cared about her. Cam’s character bothered me a little though. I thought he was kind of a jerk at times but despite all the drama I enjoyed their romance.
This is a really good book with great narration. If you enjoyed the first book then you will definitely enjoy this one too!

Definitely a credit worthy listen!

The Main Characters Bombed Out

I can't reveal too much without being a spoiler, but I can say that I ended up hating Cameron, the main male character. I am sure I will be in the minority, but I disliked the way that the main female character, Johanna, ended up settling for someone who proved to be as capable of emotional abuse as her father had been of physical abuse. Johanna admits that she has hasn't been without a boyfriend since she was 16 because she needed a man to affirm her value--which usually backfired and caused her to have no self-esteem. That being the case, she should have kicked Cameron and all former lovers to the curb, gone to work with her uncle, and spent time building herself into a strong, independent woman.

The narration was very irritating. Am not an expert on Scottish accents, but Elle Newlands voice was not convincing--especially for the males. One final item that is just a personal pique--I could not help feeling sorry for the mother. She did not seem to be the demon everyone thought her to be. No excuses for hitting her son, but no excuses for letting her lie unattended for weeks on end alone in her bedroom either. Alcoholism is a disease, not a character flaw, yet no one raised the issue of getting treatment for the mother. I guess Johanna's excuse would be that she was afraid her younger brother would be taken away from her. Very unrealistic in today's world where adult siblings gain custody all the time.
In sum, I wouldn't recommend this book.

Magnificent!

Samantha Young is my new favorite author. I loved On Dublin Street and she actually wrote a second book to top that one! There are so many things I loved about this book: the real life drama, likeable and complex characters and a romance that builds great anticipation and intensity. The narration was very good too. A must listen to anyone who likes contemporary romances.

Sooooooooooo GOOD!!!!!

Great story! Great characters! Great depth! Loved every minute!

Elle Newlands narration fit this book where I felt that Paula Costello fit "On Dublin Street" and since I think the narration can make or break the audio version I was so pleased. Who couldn't listen to a Scottish accent all day, anyway?

Its bittersweet to not be able to put a book down because its so good but then Im so sad when its over and Im mad at myself for not rationing its time out. :)(. Can't wait for more!!!

Such a great story!!

This was a great follow up to Dublin Street. I didn't pay that much attention to Jo in the first book, but what a great love story she has! The intensity of her family situation was really sad, but thankfully things ultimately worked out in her favor. I am hoping that there is a third book since there are some new characters introduced. I definitely enjoy how Samantha Young writes, the humor and sarcasm, and of course, the hot love scenes...delicious! I must admit I was not totally thrilled with the narration. All the voices were sounding far too similar, and Cam's "whisper voice" made me want to clear my throat and get a drink of water! All that said, I got over the narration and just enjoyed the story as it unfolded. Definitely a winner of a book, you will not be disappointed.

WELL WHOOPEE.. THIS WAS RIGHT UP MY STREET

Samantha Young has written another captivating story in her hit series On Dublin Street and I'm slowly, and belatedly, making my way through them. This book details a young woman's strength and resilience in the face of adversity, the secrets she must keep, the challenges she faces, the tight friendships she makes, the love and commitment for her sibling.. and the irresistible overwhelming pull when you meet the right one at the wrong time.

Jo certainly had her fair share of problems in this addictive listen.. a no good absent Father who'd been violent, a useless drunk Mother, she was the provider/protector/care giver of an early teen brother and Jo was working two jobs to bring in enough money. Her safety-net was to date wealthy men and if they bought her fancy dresses, shoes or whatever then she could, if necessary, sell them on ebay if times got tough. Jo was dating a wealthy Lottery winner when she initially met the drool-worthy but very judgemental Cam and it was fireworks and harsh words at first sight for these two enemies.

Despite their hostility towards each other they have mutual friends, work together and Cam moves into the flat below Jo so they keep meeting each other and the sexual chemistry grows thick between them. Cam is off limits - he has a girlfriend and anyway Jo is in a relationship too.. but the more time they spend together the more Cam gets to know the real Jo and her toxic situation.. which fuels the highly charged air between them until it becomes volatile. But their hard won relationship is threatened when someone from Jo's past comes back and Cam's ex-love causes plenty of waves too. Told from Jo's POV and the narration was good.

Worth a credit? YES - A slow to develop love story between complex characters that was very enjoyable because my anticipation of their romance built and built as the attraction between h/h grew.. along with drama, angst, fraught feelings, a few chilling scenes and sexy times too.

Jui……...ccccccy!!

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth the credit. Could NOT stop listening to this book. Purchased it at 10 pm and stayed up till 2 am and even then it was the fear of being completely exhausted that made me turn my ipod off. I read the reviews as always and can’t believe one described Cam as abusive like the father. Did they even read the same book? Yes at the beginning the sexual attraction makes him say unkind things but this is what makes it real. Although I make a personal effort not to use what anyone tells me against them, ever, most people I have known want to hurt with their words when in similar situations. Even spouses, parents or siblings who can love you more than anything in the world can sometimes fall within the same trap. So this is a wonderful love story about passion, love and sacrifice. Best to focus on that than the three instances of harsh words said in the book if you want to get enraptured in this well worth your time love story. The narrator is a poor choice for this book so I guess that’s something else you’ll have to overlook. Take a chance and enjoy!
