Publisher's summary

Bold, daring, larger-than-life heroes and feisty, intelligent heroines propel Stephanie Laurens' exciting historical romances. Devil's Bride is rich with engaging plot and sensuous character development.

Governess Honoria Wetherby values her independence. She would rather travel the world than marry and give some man control of her life. Then, one stormy evening, fate changes all her plans. She stumbles upon a mortally wounded young man in the woods. When the stranger dies, she is trapped in a cabin with his body and with his newly arrived cousin, Devil, whom she soon learns is aptly named. He insists that their unchaperoned night together has compromised her honor, and, therefore she must marry him. Tension levels run high as Honoria plots to thwart Devil's marriage plans and tries to help him find his cousin's killer...the same madman who is now plotting to murder Devil.

Narrator Simon Prebble tantalizes listeners as he breathes life into these intriguing characters.

A Good Read

It was interesting, kept me involved, however did opt to skip through the lovemaking scenes….feel the author as talented as she is could have developed a different approach after the third ‘scene’. I plan to continue the series and know I will enjoy each book as I did this one. Thank you for the time, effort, thought, talent, knowledge, research, imagination and intelligence far beyond my ken to put this in my hands. The narrator, Simon Prebble could read the back of cereal boxes and I would listen. Well done!

Finally! The Book that Started it All!

OMG - I have wanted to listen to the early books in this series for soooooo long. I was so excited to see Scandal's Bride a few months back and now books 1 and 2 are also available. Devil's Bride shows the bar Cynster at their best. I loved how Devil knew Honoria would be his bride way before she did. However, he had to prove it to her. If you love this series - definitely read this book!

Devilishly interesting

I thought the back and forth between the main characters was amusing. They both felt they had the right to protect the other. These books are so old fashioned in their ideals about the roles of women and men. I like that the women are uniquely independent and passionate. While they are innocent, they are intelligent and independent thinkers...which sets them apart from the pack. Good read, even better listen with Simon Prebble as narrator.

Great narrator

This is a find! The story is good and the narrator is EXCELLENT. Stephanie Laurens writes trite and sometimes satisfying romance novels. In this first of her Cynster novels, her writing is not yet as repetitive and predictable as it will be in later novels. Her character development, dialogue and plot are all decent-good, which in this novel make up for me her sometimes dreadful, over-used, sentence-fragment writing.

I was looking for something light, fun and sexy, so I returned to this novel. The narrator is so good, he makes even the most torrid sex scene sound soul-shattering and essential to the plot! Her sentence fragments don’t sound overused but honest in his rendering. He is an artist! This was so much more enjoyable than my first encounter with this book, when I read it without a narrator. If you’re looking for a little romance brain-candy, this is a great way to go.

Great Romance Novel

I have listened to this book several times. It has a great beginning that grabbed my attention and kept it. The male lead is gorgeous, big and romantic. He knows what he wants when he sees it. The female lead is strong, independent, but NOT stubborn and aggravating. The book begins with a murder and the main plot line is the mystery of who shot the young man. It kept me guessing for a while. There are several male characters that have their stories told in future books in the series. I liked all al them. The female lead, who starts off as a governess for a family in the neighborhood of the lead male, a Duke, becomes the star of the book in my opinion. The family has hired her to prepare their eldest daughter as the wife pf the Duke. The female lead instead ends up as the fiancé of the Duke. She is a very likable character. I really do find this book entertaining and comfortable.

great!

I have read some of the cynster series on paperback so I knew the story itself would be great. I think the narrator is amazing! definitely the best I've heard in all of the audiobooks that I've listened to so far. He actually read the story with excitement at climactic areas of the book and also changed the voices of the characters. it was great! I look forward to listening to the rest of the series.

Loved it!

The story and the characters were the antithesis of fantasy. Who needs Grey when you can have a Cynster?
