Publisher's summary

It was just another after-work happy-hour bar downtown, where business professionals unwound with a few drinks, complained about the boss, maybe hooked up with someone for the night. Until something went terribly wrong. At first it was just a friction in the air. The noise intensified. The crowd seemed oppressive. Some sharp words were exchanged, some pushing and shoving.

Then the madness descended. And after 12 minutes of chaos and violence, 80 people lay dead.

Eve Dallas is trying to sort out the inexplicable events. Surviving witnesses talk about seeing things - monsters and swarms of bees. They describe sudden, overwhelming feelings of fear and rage and paranoia. When forensics makes its report, the mass delusions make more sense: it appears the bar patrons were exposed to a cocktail of chemicals and illegal drugs that could drive people into temporary insanity - if not kill them outright.

But that doesn’t explain who would unleash such horror - or why. Eve’s husband, Roarke, happens to own the bar, yet he’s convinced the attack wasn’t directed at him. It’s bigger than that. And if Eve can’t figure it out fast, it could happen again, anytime, anywhere. Because it’s airborne....

Eve Dallas strikes again!

If you could sum up Delusion In Death in three words, what would they be?

Robb done good!

What did you like best about this story?

I am a big fan of the Eve Dallas series. Most series would become boring after 30+ books but not in this case. Each story can stand on it's own. I have collected every book in the series as well as the audiobook to go with it.

Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favorite?

Well, Eve, of course! I am amazed at the range of voices she is capable of and often pick up and listen to ANY book she records. So far I haven't found a bad one.

Alway love Dallas and Rourke... but

Any additional comments?

wasn't crazy about the narrator, especially at first. Kind of grew on me, but her accents were a little too much, especially for Rourke. Rourke has a subtle 'irish lilt" when he's angry or - even more lovely - when in those passionate throes. He doesn't sound like a irish fishwyfe, which is exactly how he sounded on here sometimes - but you get used to it. Dallas doesn't sound like I "pictured" either, and poor Peabody. Argghh - she just sounded DUMB. Would rather have had a really good male narrator here, I don't know why, but a much more talented narrator who knows the books/characters seems needed here. JMO.

Behold, a red horse (an in Death novel about religious cults)

This in Death novel is about mothers, children, the choices people make, and religious cults. The specific religious cult is one called Red Horse (reference Book of Revelations in the New Testament), dating back to the Urban Wars which took place earlier in the 21st century.

Eve is still recovering emotionally from the traumatic events that took place with McQueen in Dallas. The NYPSD Murder Squad ends up with a doozy of a case involving a biochemical agent that causes exposed people to go bat sh*t crazy and kill each other.

Another good one. Well narrated.

I love Dalas

This series is well written with good character development and great narration. The plots are varied and twist in new ways. Though set in the future, it is a subtle distinction and not focused on.
I enjoyed this story as I have all of them. I found myself searching for clues and marveling when they were presented.

Dallas Does It Again with Roark's Help, Of Course

I simply love Eve Dallas and Roark. Amazing that Nora Roberts can write so differently between this series and her other more novels. I've read a great many of them but love the J.D. Robb futuristic cop series. Maybe I just like knowing the characters and having them do the same thing in a different way.

Anyway, this book is different in that there is a murderer out there but no one sees it happen. It's an aerosol vapor that makes people go into a frenzy and stab each other with forks or whatever they have near. Very scary since sometimes the local TV describes people acting in the same way without any poisonous gas involved.

The book is predictable but we readers of the #35 book in the series expect that which is why there are so many books in the series. The difference in this series and others where the settings remain the same is the vitality of the characters. Eve is dangerous and lovely and a total dichotomy between the New York Police Lieutenant and the wife to Roark. To understand the dyanmics, one must read the first book in the series 'Naked in Death' and then you can read any book in the series pretty much and know what's going on. I happen to be a bit Obsessive-Compulsive and like to read things in order but that's just me.

Susan Ericksen is terrific narrating since the book is told from Eve's viewpoint. She gets the accents and makes you think she is a tall, dark haired Irishman. Good read.
