Publisher's summary

Deadly Game begins as a mission to protect a politician from an assassination threat. But the operation takes an unexpected turn when Mari, a mysteriously beautiful GhostWalker, is taken hostage. At the same time, Ken Norton, expert assassin and himself a GhostWalker warrior, is on a mission of his own - one that reaches into Mari's own past. No stranger to the ways of violent warfare, Mari must join forces with Ken and trust his every move - each one more intimate than the last.

Deadly Game

I love the all these books with the ghost walkers. I wish you had all of the ghost walkers books on tape. Deadly Game was wonderful. Can't wait to see if they get Dr. Whittney.

Broken But Not Down

What did you love best about Deadly Game?

Ken was broken in every way, but stronger than any man could hope to be.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ken. After his torture he struggled to find ways to live and remain human. He found his humanity in spades.

Which scene was your favorite?

I can't stick to one favorite scene. There were two that wouldn't let me go. When he was there with Marigold through the doctor's examination. He took her away from that horror. Then he saved her from the rape by the one she thought was her friend. Both reeled me in and broke my heart. She was so brave and it was sad that she had to be.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Broken Beauty, Broken Beast

The characters accepted each other for their strengths and weakness lending comfort to one another even when it scared them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it is fast paced and holds a listener.

Disappointing

It is really nice to have the same narrator, narrate all the books when listening to a series. You like to hear and associate the same voices for the main characters. It is too bad Tom Stechschulte can not achieve that. There is no consistency in his voices of the characters. That is just one of the reasons these books are so frustrating. Not too mention the author diminishes a good plot with terribly written sex scenes every other word.

A Light Touch

Any additional comments?

Each series makes you realize that the series could go on for ever. When we first met Jess in another book he is beaten so unto death but because of other Ghost Walkers he has a chance to live. Now we see there are more Ghost Walker teams than just one or two. Saber tells us that the doctor has more sites were he is training more women as well as men. Even though the doctor has matched up the couples they realize that it does not matter because they do develop feeling for each other. This book as not as sexually explicit like the earlier books but it does have the sexual tension between the couple. If you miss out in the beginning of the series you will not understand the true attraction of the characters or which team you are following.

Another excellent addition 2 an awesome series

Any additional comments?

A Thoroughly enjoyable book. Christine has a way of drawing you into the story and is able to keep you grasping for more. Ken is a hard ass man and has scars on the inside and out. Both Mari and Ken have been caged and used as test subjects so have endured extensive abuse from the notorious Whitney and his crew. This is a beautiful love story with them both opening up to each other mentally and physically. There are Hot sex scenes and lot's of action. I am really enjoying this great series and will be grabbing the next book asap.

Real military language

Would you consider the audio edition of Deadly Game to be better than the print version?

No-written word and the spoken word two different entities.

Would you be willing to try another book from Christine Feehan? Why or why not?

Yes, but some of the female narrators are not strong enough to carry off a male character (too weak). Best when she has both male/female narrators.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Deadly Game-yes.

DNF. Too much internal conflict and pondering.

Not enough external action happening.

I read 49% of the book. Here is the first scene which is good. Ken and his brother Jack are outside guarding a home. Some military guys arrive. Ken and Jack shoot and wound one of them. The others leave. Ken and Jack realize the wounded guy is Mari the long lost sister of Jack’s wife.

CAUTION SPOILER (as to the first half of the book):
They take Mari to a medical facility to treat her wounds. She tries to escape once, but Ken catches her within minutes. She and Ken are sexually drawn to each other. They have sex. That’s it – for half the book. All the rest is writing about Ken’s and Mari’s thoughts, feelings, fears, and ponderings. It’s all internal and repetitive. Mari talks about her life as a prisoner of Whitney and being experimented on with physical and psychic enhancements. If she does not go back to the compound, Whitney will kill her fellow prisoners. Whitney wanted her to get pregnant by a specific guy, so Mari was repeatedly beaten and raped. Ken thinks and talks about his torture in the Congo. The skin on his back was stripped off and the rest of his body was cut making him look like a quilt - even his sexual organs. He fears he can never have sex again. He had a horrible father and fears he will be like his father. He also was enhanced with Whitney’s drugs, but he was not kept at the compound the way Mari was. He repeatedly asks Mari to tell him where the compound is so he and Jack can rescue the others, but Mari won’t tell him.
END SPOILER.

Everything is about what happened in the past. There is no current action, like Ken going somewhere, interacting with people or the environment, doing things, changing things. Instead it’s worries and thinking about the past. The past would be ok if the author showed “action” in the past – like how Ken arrived in the Congo, who was with him, what they said and did, what happened when bad guys took him prisoner, the details of how he got rescued, etc. Or things and conversations happening in Mari’s past. But no past action details were told.

Maybe the second half of the book is different. Many readers enjoyed this, so I say great. It’s just not the kind of writing I like.

AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Tom Stechschulte was good, as usual.

Genre: paranormal romantic suspense
