Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Jude Deveraux returns to her roots in this sweeping historical romance with a dazzling story that spans two continents and unites two people who are separated by class, wealth, and education.

In 1766 Scotland, the laird of the clan, Angus McTern, has everything he wants in life. That is, until Edilean Talbot shows up. Breathtakingly beautiful and born of privilege, Edilean represents everything Angus despises. Still, she dazzles him, and when Angus can no longer hide his feelings, she rejects him, leaving him deeply wounded and humiliated. Soon, though, Edilean needs his help to reclaim the gold she inherited from her father. At first Angus refuses, but her haunting beauty and her tears convince him to put aside his pride.

However, when Angus tries to intervene, he is accused of kidnapping and theft. To avoid being prosecuted, he must leave behind all that he knows and escape with Edilean to America. There they will overcome almost insurmountable obstacles as the man who claims the gold for his own endlessly pursues them. Despite all that tries to keep them apart, Angus and Edilean also find a love as wild and free as the land itself. Filled with passion, humor, exquisite detail, and pulse-pounding adventure, Days of Goldis Jude Deveraux at her best.

Critic reviews

"After dozens of novels, Deveraux has a sure hand evoking plucky heroines, dastardly villains and irresistible heroes, as well as a well-rounded supporting cast… the pace moves quickly and the romance sparks with enough voltage to keep readers turning pages." ( Publishers Weekly)
"With the promise of future books about surprising and interesting Edilean, veteran storyteller Deveraux incorporates her trademark sweet and salty characters into a pair of entertaining romances, one past, one present, to create one of her most fun and pleasing tales." ( Booklist)
"Family ties, small town values and unexpected love in a picturesque settings have made Deveraux a longtime bestselling author, so it's no surprise that she again delivers.... Readers will find it hard to resist the charms of Edilean, the manor house, the town, the woman of many secrets and, of course, the series to come." ( Publishers Weekly)

Enjoyed very much

Story moved along and kept me interested. I am a big fan of the reader Davina Porter and she was fantastic. If your missing OUTLANDER books this will satisfy.

Delightful Romance and Fabulous Narration

I haven't read a Jude Deveraux book in a long time but I remembered how much I devoured her paperbacks. This historical romance was equally engaging. My only problem with the story was the awkward epilogue that essentially filled in a gap in the story she missed. Like she realized she forgot to explain something and rather than rewrite she just added it at the end.

The best part is the narration by Davina Porter. She's probably one of my favorite narrators. She does a flawless Scottish accent and all her character voices are distinct and consistent. Even the male voices are well done. If you haven't listened to her before this is a great first book. Worth using your credit!

Good story

The overall story was good but drug on at times and the stupidity of some of the characters was irritating. Did not care for the narrator the male voices were too pretty.

Another fine performance by Davina Porter

Usually, not all the time, the criterion for my listens is that Davina Porter is the narrator. She did a superb job with the characters as always. The story line was good. It was a mixture of Scottish and English go to America in the mid 1700's, mixed with romance and adventure; what's not to like? I didn't want it to end.

If Davina Porter narrated the other books in this series, I would listen to them as well. But, unfortunately, I sampled them and found that the other narrators, in my opinion, were no where near the caliber of Porter.

Lovely read

In one of the other reviews left - it mentioned that this story was like Outlander, but I would like to point out two crucial differences. First - I am a Huge fan of all the Outlander books - but I also happen to know a huge number of readers who absolutely can Not read books such as Outlander which contains frank sexual content not to mention a very Strongly repulsive torture scene that are simply too much for some people’s feelings to bear. So - for those readers This book can be a truly magnificently enjoyable read without the elements that many readers do not care for in the majority of historical fiction published today. If I am not mistaken I also believe that this book was written beFore the Outlander book - which is only fair to mention also - because it can sometimes imply that the one was a type of genre copy of the other, and it is totally not the case. So anyone who enjoys the historical romance that covers many elements of a grand Scottish/American romance with the talented writing that Jude Deveraux’s books often contain - they are in for another great read. All of that said, as an avid fan of audiobooks I want to be sure to mention the fact that Davina Porter is by Far one of the BEST narrators of books of ANY type - but she is especially enjoyable to listen to in books that do involve those with characters from Scotland. It is exceptional narration by someone who can give Every character their own voice throughout a book. Not to mention correct pronunciation to words as well. It is unfortunate - but because I am an both an avid reader as well as a huge audiobook fan, I have noticed a Growing number of books whose narrators do Not know how to pronounce many words correctly. For anyone with correct diction and an extensive vocabulary - it can be jarring to hear words being mispronounced throughout an entire book. Ms. Porter is a fantastic narrator in all respects. This book has a great storyline, a sweet romance, and perfect narration. For anyone looking for a great novel for sheer entertainment - this is a good choice!

Enjoyable Story

While I enjoyed the story I felt it missed several opportunities for drama and was somewhat predictable. The reason I gave it 5 stars is because of Davina Porter. She is my absolute, all-time favorite narrator---especially when there is a Scottish accent involved.
