Four years after being drugged and tricked into marriage with 14-year old Willow Givanchy, the unwanted daughter of his deadliest enemy and a reputed witch, Gerard Lytton returns home from America to find his wife and family changed. His mother is dead and his child bride has become a beautiful and capable woman, who has taken her place as mistress of the estate. His father is ill and close to death.Brought up in Ireland by a male tutor, Willow excels in the manly arts of fencing and shooting. She has become well-loved within the Lytton family circle, and has lost none of her fiery independence, even while she longs to take her place by her husband's side and become a "proper" wife to him.

But although nobly born, Willow cannot deny her mother's dark reputation, or her father's dishonour... and neither can Gerard forget it. Willow's past becomes a problem to them both even while they fall in love. When Willow's mother appears, it coincides with that of a raven. A series of mysterious events unfold and they cause an obstacle that threatens to tear Gerard and Willow apart for ever.

I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!

    "Ok Book"

I did finish the book but I found it a bit depressing and the narrator read the dialogue too fast.

"I enjoyed the story & loved the narrator's accent"
What did you love best about Daughter of Darkness?

The story was very interesting, with plenty going on to keep you from getting bored.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Daughter of Darkness?

I liked that the female lead character wasn't one of the usual simpering girly-girl types that are typical of this kind of book. I liked that she could ride and shoot and fence as well as many of the men.

What about Tadhg Hynes’s performance did you like?

I really loved the narrator's accent. I could listen to him read all day! I didn't have any problems keeping up or telling who said what. I was surprised to read this in the other reviews when I finished listening.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were no extreme reactions, however, I was satisfied at the end of the book..

    "Engaging story-bad narration, editing sloppy"

I found the story to be entertaining and enjoyable.. However it was hard to get through this book on audio as the narration is to fast; I tried changing Ipod speed--it did not work. The editing is worse. The sentences ran together and I sometimes did not know who said what--very sloppy. It says a lot for the story as I did finish listening to it. I will listen to other books by this author and hope that the reading and definitely the editing will be much improved.

    "Interesting but depressing"

I enjoyed the writing but cannot imagine why anyone would write a story so depressing. the narration was good if the objective was to make a black story blacker. I found this hard to listen to but was caught up with the characters and so stayed with it to the end.

"exceptional story ruined by horrendous narration!"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Its a fantastic story.... but don't waste a credit or spend the money unless you listen to the narative sampling! I personally almost didnt bother after the first 60 seconds! I was out of service with no wifi and only the one new book downloaded so I gave it a go. Wonderful story and great personalities BUT imagine regency london read by someone with a deep southern drawl... deep backwoods country just can't pull it off!

What did you like best about this story?

The twists keep you entralled and the characters keep you enchanted.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Tadhg Hynes?

    Rosland Landor, Simon Prebble... anyone!

Do you think Daughter of Darkness needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I may actually listen to it again if it were re-recorded! There is room for another one but I wouldn't say it was needed.

    Any additional comments?

It's a shame that a mis-step as severely wrong as choosing this narrator for this story had to bitterly ruin a otherwise wonderful story!!!

    "Daughter of darkness"

The story was ok, silly in places, but was ruined by the Irish accent. Why use an Irish voice when the story was based in England.
