After several decades of looking for true love and never finding it, aging model and lingerie designer, Alexa Ranger, has finally given up the search. A couple of years ago, she got tired of the game completely and just stopped dating. Now friends and family keep her mostly content, so it's shocking at 50 years old to find herself suddenly wanting a sex life again. It's even more shocking to be attracted to a much younger man this time. She definitely thinks Casey Carter is sexy, but not handling her own age well, Alexa just can't get passed their 12 year age difference to even consider a fling. Not that it matters anyway, anything resembling a normal dating relationship is totally out of the question because Casey is related to and living with her daughter's boyfriend.
The very last thing Alexa needs is yet another talk-show-worthy drama in her already complicated life, no matter how amazing Casey's kisses make her feel. For a couple of years, 38 year old medically retired Marine Casey Carter, believed his military injury had made him impotent. Having lost his wife to cancer, he hadn't exactly been worried about the problem. Most days walking with a cane was enough challenge for him. But now that he was ready to move on with his life, he had become more worried when none of the females his cousin brought around held any interest for him. So the last woman in the world he expected to start his engine revving again was the mother of his cousin's girlfriend.
Even at 50, Alexa is drop-dead gorgeous, and his libido certainly keeps reminding him she is the first woman he has wanted in a long, long time. Ironically, the more Casey gets to know and like Alexa, he finds out desiring the older woman is the easiest part. Jaded and cynical about love, Alexa is a difficult woman to convince of anything, but her kisses are all the proof he needs that they belong together. The former Marine decides his next mission is figuring out how to fit himself into her life.

This is the first audible book I have listened to. I received a free copy from the author in exchange for a review. It was interesting to listen to the inflection in narrator's voice and get a visual picture of what was happening.
About a third of the way through the book, she really seemed to start putting more emotion into her voice and that made the book come alive!!
I had read this book several times in the past, but when the hero was injured toward the end of the book, I almost cried!! The emotion in the narrator's voice combined with the words really brought that portion of the book to life!!
Based on my experience with this audible book, I may have to get more audibles!
Take a look it's in a book...Reading Rainbow!
Oh my, what to say. There were elements of this book that I really enjoyed, but somehow it just felt slow. I really liked the premise and the characters, they were engaging and interesting. It just never went anywhere, the story line was drawn-out and lacking major conflicts. Well, not until the end.
Alexa is a sassy mature woman, I really liked her throughout. She was confident and sure of herself. I loved her attitude and casual self esteem. Casey was a great match for her, on the surface. Most of the time I loved him, but his attitude was annoying. She was personable and charismatic, he saw it as flirting. That was a point I was not in love with. Fortunately, he chills a bit, I would not have been happy with the pairing if he had not relaxed.
The steam is delicious!! Oh yeah, they get seriously smexy!! And Casey is a giver, if ya know what I mean. They get some hot and heavy action going, girl have a cold shower ready!!
I love the supporting cast. They have serious potential for stories in the series. Each was interesting and really want to see them get their own HEA. There is a lot of story here.
It is a mixed narrative, switching between the lead characters POVs and even a few side trips into the supporting cast. It gives great insight into all their thoughts and motivations. The switches are always smooth and clearly defined.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Anne Johnstonbrown, She does a lovely job keeping the voices distinct and consistent. I really enjoyed her smooth and sassy tone, it really worked for the book. She adds plenty of energy to the smexy scenes! There were time when the dialogue sounded stilted and a touch odd. Mostly when it was Alexa or her daughter. It was a touch distracting.
Overall this was a really enjoyable read, it just needed a bit of editing down. Some of the day to day scenes slowed the momentum down. Still, I am interested in seeing what happens with the rest of the series. The books have a lot of potential.
Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.
The author did a wonderful job putting a great story together that addresses the unique fears and concerns of single women around the age of 50. I did not want to put this book down. I was captivated by the story. I did, however, feel it was unrealistic how Casey would man handle Alexa when she was upset.
The narrator was irritating because she was over pronouncing the words and it made her speach seem labored and it grated on my
Hot, Sexy, Funny
Casey is so sweet... He asks Alexia's daughter about dating her mom.
I love listening to Anne change her. voice for each character, she is a joy to listen to
Casey gets hit by a car and is bleeding and Alexa is trying to stop the bleeding from a head injury, but doesn't know how bad it is. It tears at the heart strings.
Mom, Wife, Teacher, Editor and Crazy in Love with Books!
Both of the characters are super extra bossy, Alexa Ranger, a fifty year old divorced, former model and now wealthy businesswoman and Casey Carter, disabled Marine vet and widower. They are attracted to each other from the beginning and the story keeps going up to the end!
Every book is unique, I cannot compare it with anything else.
Casey Carter is A D R E A M and she presented him even better! (I am still laughing with Casey-Jemma (the daughter) scene)
Yes, and I think I mostly did!
Anne Johnstonbrown is extremely good! Thanks a lot Donna McDonald and Anne Johnstonbrown.
No, I do not consider the audio edition to be better than the print version.
The characters -- all of them, not only the Hero and Heroine.
Nearly anyone who isn't so "breathy" in her reading. I probably would have looked to the author first, to see if she would read her own book.
No. It was an entertaining story, but nothing in particular stood out.
Alexa Ranger is a woman to be reckoned with she is a 50 year old former model turned business woman. For the most part her business her friend and her family help her lead a happy life so when she meets 38 year old Casey Carter she is shocked by the instant attraction. However she know nothing can come of it. Not only is he 12 years her junior, he is also the cousin (but more like an older brother) of her daughter’s boyfriend.
Casey has experienced true love before and knows what a treasure it can be. So when he meets Alexa and feels the attraction between them he will do anything he can to get her to change her mind about seeing where it takes them.
I really liked Anne Johnstonbrown as the narrator for this story. Since it is told from Alexa’s POV, Ann had the perfect voice to pull you in and make you feel like you were listening to the character telling you her story.
I love the fact that the author stepped away from the younger characters that are so popular right now. She gave us a H/h that some of us feel we can better relate to. The conversations between Alexa nad her friends had me laughing out loud and aome of the antics between the couple were just as funny. This was a great fun read where not only the main characters but also the secondary characters were a blast !

Stars: Overall 3 Narration 4 Story 3
A chance to switch it up with romance that features women who are not in their early 20's and in need of growth time. It can be wearing, the focus on youth, but Donna McDonald gives us a glimpse into a world that presents heroines who are not in the first bloom of youth - and after all, isn't that a bit overrated?
Starting a bit slowly and dragging a touch, the story doesn't gain in emotional impact or action until the latter half, and from that point forward it is fairly fast paced, predictable but in all the best ways.
McDonald uses alternating points of view, so we get to see all sides of the story from all sides: from the main character of Alexa and Casey, as well as secondary character input from Alexa's daughter and her daughter's boyfriend. My only complaint was in the occasionally stilted dialog that was most commonly noticed in Alexa and her daughter - usually in their interactions.
With all of the character changes, narration was capably managed by Anne Johnstonbrown, with distinct voices and easily distinguished delivery styles for each of the characters. I will say that her style and performance improved as the story went on, as she started to utilize an emotive emphasis that managed to enhance the emotional impact of the story.
This isn't s super-clean romance: Casey and Alexa are attracted to one another and they do act on that attraction in some very steamy moments and scenes. While Casey's background as a former Marine makes appearances, his honest appreciation of Alexa as a person and a woman is well-written and adds a touch of hopefulness to the story.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title from AudioBook Jukebox for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
I was hoping for a more stimulating listen but it was just a lackluster love story. Of course the cougar is a hot sexy older woman but the story hasn't given her a hot passionate romance that I was expecting. After all in this situation I would expect that. So for me this was a wasted credit. It's just a average story and who wants that?
Say something about yourself!
I like the seduction until it went on so long I lost interest.
The book seemed to me to be just single pointed and shallow. Don't know what I expected but it was flat except for the chemistry between the main characters. The narrator sounds as though she teaches diction, then ever so often she was just great. I guess I'll throw this one in the mixed bag category. The production seemed bad also, kind of hollow. I don't consider this worth a credit.
