Publisher's summary

An estate haunted by over a hundred years of tragedy - and Donovan Black stood at the heart of it. Like Darkwood Manor, Donovan was an utter mystery. An FBI sharpshooter who couldn't break away from his past, he only wanted to make sure that history didn't repeat itself - especially now that the manor had a lovely new owner.

Isabella Ross had either discovered the perfect vacation spot or her final resting place. Now her only hope for survival is a man who doesn't want her around - a man she can't seem to resist. But the secrets in his family's attic threaten to consume them both, and something - or someone - won't rest until the manor house is empty....

Just stay with it

I liked it and the reader is good. It reminds of a Barbara Michaels mystery/romance. It is a fun ride.

Good Story but

didnt want to wade thru the sex and romance to finish. I know this supposed to be a romance but the story is great but it gets washed out with the tide of passion. Oh well. On to the next book.

Good story...better narration.

What did you love best about Darkwood Manor?

I enjoyed the dynamic between Isabella and Donovan.

What did you like best about this story?

The author was very descriptive. The story held my interest until the end.

What does Liz Bieler bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Liz Bieler, the narrator, was wonderful! She did a great job alternating between male and female characters. Her narration was animated without sounding overdone.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Any additional comments?

I usually listen to non-fiction audiobooks but I plan on giving fiction another shot.

Mystery, Intruige and Romance!

If you could sum up Darkwood Manor in three words, what would they be?

A great gothic romance to listen to!

What does Liz Bieler bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I felt the voices really made the characters come to life. The narrators tone was smooth and I liked how the voices changed for each person, making it easy to engage with them. I found the narrators voice enhanced the book--- and added another layer of interest for me.

Any additional comments?

I would listen to more books by this narrator........ she allowed me to engage in a guilty pleasure-- "reading" without actually having to read!

Old-fashioned gothic mystery

This was a very enjoyable, old-fashioned kind of gothic mystery. The story was complex and the characters were fun.

Okay story, but great reader

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This isn't the kind of book I normally read or listen to, but a friend recommended it. I needed something light and mindless to entertain me while I cleaned out closets. The story was so-so. The heroine's cousin disappeared yet she started a romance instead of actively searching for her cousin. I only stuck with the audiobook because I enjoyed the reader.

Would you recommend Darkwood Manor to your friends? Why or why not?

With reservations because the story was weak, but the reader was good.

What about Liz Bieler’s performance did you like?

I had never heard this performer read before and was pleasantly surprised. She has a nice, confident voice and did character voices well. I'd listen to other books she reads.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was entertaining, but evoked no strong emotions.

Not bad but not what I expected

The overall story starts off ok but then gets somewhat boring. If you've read romance novels before you already expect the 2 lead characters to fall in love with eachother & end up being together. I was expecting more mystery & instead got a woman who falls for the guy trying to save her that is pretty much an open book eventhough hes written as a mysterious character himself. The story broke off in many directions & was hard to keep up with on what was going on. Normally I like stories like that but in this case not so much.

Wanted to nap through this one

I realize a good number of people liked this story and production. I did not. So boring and repetitive and trite I skimmed and hurried from Chapter 9 to the last two chapters. Even six hours and 21 minutes was too long to listen to nattator Liz Bieler squeak through poor attempts at male voices and the chipper yet snide voice of the female protagonist. Sorry, Ms. Ryan, this one was not for me. I am glad you had good reviews, though.

Meh

I wanted to like this book. I got to chapter 9 and couldn't take it. The author needs a lot more descriptive words. Characters would change location and I had no idea where they were, how they got there, what they were doing; it was very distracting from the dialog. Finally I just skipped to the last chapter, (before the epilogue), and it told me everything I needed to know. Closure!
