An estate haunted by over a hundred years of tragedy - and Donovan Black stood at the heart of it. Like Darkwood Manor, Donovan was an utter mystery. An FBI sharpshooter who couldn't break away from his past, he only wanted to make sure that history didn't repeat itself - especially now that the manor had a lovely new owner.
Isabella Ross had either discovered the perfect vacation spot or her final resting place. Now her only hope for survival is a man who doesn't want her around - a man she can't seem to resist. But the secrets in his family's attic threaten to consume them both, and something - or someone - won't rest until the manor house is empty....

I enjoyed the dynamic between Isabella and Donovan.
The author was very descriptive. The story held my interest until the end.
Liz Bieler, the narrator, was wonderful! She did a great job alternating between male and female characters. Her narration was animated without sounding overdone.
I usually listen to non-fiction audiobooks but I plan on giving fiction another shot.
A great gothic romance to listen to!
I felt the voices really made the characters come to life. The narrators tone was smooth and I liked how the voices changed for each person, making it easy to engage with them. I found the narrators voice enhanced the book--- and added another layer of interest for me.
I would listen to more books by this narrator........ she allowed me to engage in a guilty pleasure-- "reading" without actually having to read!
So many books, so little time.
This was a very enjoyable, old-fashioned kind of gothic mystery. The story was complex and the characters were fun.
This isn't the kind of book I normally read or listen to, but a friend recommended it. I needed something light and mindless to entertain me while I cleaned out closets. The story was so-so. The heroine's cousin disappeared yet she started a romance instead of actively searching for her cousin. I only stuck with the audiobook because I enjoyed the reader.
With reservations because the story was weak, but the reader was good.
I had never heard this performer read before and was pleasantly surprised. She has a nice, confident voice and did character voices well. I'd listen to other books she reads.
It was entertaining, but evoked no strong emotions.
Yes, great for treadmill! Pleasant Surprise.
Easy to follow while exercising
Her voice was very easy to listen to and kept me engaged.
Was surprised I liked an audio book. Will definitely order again.
English is my second language and I like to listen to audio books to hear it spoken by native speakers. I found this story a little hard to follow, but I enjoyed the narrator. She had a pleasant voice, was easy to understand, and did a good job of distinguishing all the characters with her voice. I would listen to her again.
Mariana from Buenos Aires, Argentina
The voice she used for the main female character sounded weak and whiny
Most of them
This story was completely unbelievable. No one who had her cousin go missing would fail to call her family and on what planet would a deputy sheriff refuse to look for a missing person? The story was so bad it was like the author just mixed up a bunch of words and stuck some sex in the middle.
I never stop reading a book in the middle, just in case it's a slow starter but this one was a complete waste of time. Throughout the whole book I just wanted to slap some sense into the characters. Juvenile attempt at writing.
