There are some books that just captures your imagination, keeps you enthralled and, if you've had to stop it for any reason, then you're desperate to get back to it..... well this was one of those listens for me. Set in 1784 Ireland when the English Crown was taking Irish land under the pretence of religion, this well-described plot starts off with Connor catching a young pickpocket trying to steal from him. He offers the boy a job on his Estate working alongside his brothers but when the boy actually turns out to be a girl that's when all the fun and action begins.
This isn't a love at first sight romance nor does the Hero pursue the Heroine from the start but it slowly unfolds with drama, desire, secrets, twists, great characters, revenge, treachery, murder and an evil villain all caught-up in a beautiful, strong willed and headstrong young girl's awakening love for the handsome Earl that saved her and the many problems she unwittingly caused. There's 'Robin Hood' type Highwaymen giving to the poor and keeping little for themselves even when they have little money of their own. The H/H's attraction and chemistry grows into an all too short romance (light sex) that takes a sudden painful shocking turn leaving heartache, devastation and an evil blackmailer's cruel and vicious bargain.
Worth a credit? A memorable love story that spans time and defies fate, a close family desperate to stay together and outsmarts the Hangman's noose, great character development and an unpredictable, tense, fast-paced, action packed plot makes this a very creditworthy listen.
