Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love...

Book One of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy

Dark Witch

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives. When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself - and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope - and love - alive...

Loved this book!

What made the experience of listening to Dark Witch the most enjoyable?

The plot kept my constant attention, the characters were well developed, and I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I got attached to all the characters and felt like I was part of the story.

Have you listened to any of Katherine Kellgren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I loved her as narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I couldn't wait to get back to it.

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this series.

Stop Shouting at Me

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I enjoyed the plot and will definitely check out the rest of the series when they come out. It's rather similar to previous Roberts trilogies, so I was a bit disappointed. But it kept me engaged.

What didn’t you like about Katherine Kellgren’s performance?

Sorry, I hated it. I agree with others that she made the characters sound too old. But the biggest problem was her overly dramatic renditions of several scenes. She was way too loud to the point where I had to turn the volume down many times. This distracted from the story and really took me out of the narrative.

Book 1

Not exactly the story I was expecting but entertaining all the same. Roberts once again weaves a story that pulls the reader in, holds them gently while the movie unfolds, and leaves them looking forward to the next book. Good start to a new series.

Good book horrible narrator

My least favorite in this series but story line is fair. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I would have read it. Narrator is SO LOUD and ALL the women except for Iona sound like old grannies. The men except for Conner sound weird too.

Different narrator would have made all the difference here

Great book made better by the narrator

This was a book that I devoured in very few sittings. I absolutely adored the detail to the setting, the way each character was written and their separate and distinct personalities, and most of all, the magic.
I’ve read many Nora Roberts books, but this one was my favorite. I felt like I was in Ireland, also looking on at the beautiful landscape as it was described, taking care of the horses with Iona, and enjoying the camaraderie with my newfound cousins and friends.
The narrator made all of this even better. How she slipped between accents, built me up during tense scenes by getting louder and louder...I am new to the Audible game but I will be listening to the other two books in the series immediately and hope they’re narrated by Katherine Kellgren as well. She did an absolutely amazing thing: made a great book even better by lending it her voice.
I am very much looking forward to finding out what happens to the cousins in the next two installments.

Witch

If you could sum up Dark Witch in three words, what would they be?

Interesting .fun. gripping

Who was your favorite character and why?

The young dark witch because she overcame a lot. But made freinds and found people who believed in her and loved her. And how as a team they found their place and where they belonged and with who they trusted and learned to love.

What about Katherine Kellgren’s performance did you like?

Very good reader with enough changes in the voices to keep me interested and following along. And at times I felt like I was thief with them

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I hope there are more books in the series.

loved the story, but

loved this story, narrator is good, although when doing Iona at the beginning, she makes her almost obnoxiously over the top, a bit grating to the ears.
