Publisher's summary

Malcolm of Dunroch is a newly chosen Master, a novice with extraordinary and dangerous powers. But he has already broken his vows, and a young woman's death is on his hands. Malcolm is determined to fight his darkest desires, denying himself all pleasure until fate sends him another Innocent, the beautiful book-seller Claire Camden.

Since her mother's murder, Claire has done everything possible to make a safe, secure life for herself in a city where danger lurks on every street corner, especially in the dark of night. But nothing can prepare her for the powerful and sexually magnetic medieval warrior who sweeps her back into his time: a treacherous, frightening world where the hunters and the hunted are one and the same. Claire needs Malcolm to survive, yet she must somehow keep the dangerously seductive Master at arm's length. For Malcolm's soul is at stake, and fulfilling his desires could prove fatal.

Dull Narration

This may be a good book, but the narration is so dull and flat I may not be able to finish it.
Update: So, I've pushed through to try to finish this book. The narration does not get better. Apparently, the narrator does not understand what tones go with specific emotions. She sounds happy, when the book calls for an opposite emotion, etc. That combined with a main character that is arrogant and extremely stupid (when she is supposed to be an intelligent woman) makes this book almost unbearable.

Disappointing and Sightly Irritating.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I am not sure anything could save this story.

What was most disappointing about Brenda Joyce’s story?

The main character was irritating. I couldn't get passed the first through chapters before it became too painful to listen to,

How could the performance have been better?

A more reasonable, thoughtful tone might improve the performance.

What character would you cut from Dark Seduction?

I didn't listen to enough of the story to get the full list of characters.

Horrible narrator, so-so story, horrible heroine

Marguerite Jennings actually embarassed me, she was such a bad narrator. Her voice for Claire was absolutely idiotic - - the character Claire was poorly written to begin with, but the narrator made her even more of an idiot than she already was. She was helpless and stupid, frankly. The hero was sexy and super enjoyable to read about, but Claire wasn't nearly likeable enough to believe that Malcolm would fall for her.

The story was pretty easy to follow and I definitely was interested in what would happen next, but Claire was distractingly dumb, without a doubt.

...Poorly written

I love romance novels and thought I would really enjoy this one. I could only listen to about an hour or two of the book before I had to just stop. It seems to have too much violence and serious sex scenes that involve no romance leading up to it... Not my cup of tea.

I did not care for narrator.

I thought the book was good overall the storyline move quickly and the heroin was likable. sometimes I thought they made her look stupid. I didn't like the narrator I couldn't tell if she was trying to make the character sound sexy, scared, or like a ghost. she made the Highlanders sound done because they talked so slow.

Save yourself the agony

I don't know what is worse- the writing or the narrating.
Really bad accents, very whiny female and cliche upon cliche... and very poorly written sex scenes to boot!
Even at the $4.95 sale- not worth it.

Shameless

I gave Diana Gabaldon's "Voyager" 5 stars so I enjoy the genere. This is a shameless and poor ripoff of that great book. If "loins" are your thing, there are nearly a bizillion references to that part of anatomy. To the author's credit, they are presented in a myriad of fashions: trembling, pulsating, thrusting blah, blah, blah.

The reader gave it her all but there was no hope!

For those who enjoyed this book, I'm happy for you. Sorry, but I didn't.

What a waste

I can't believe I spent 4 hours listening to this, trying to get "into" it. It was a terrible narration. If the narrator could not say "lass" any better than that, she needs to move on. I could not even finish it. It could not have been a worse waste of money and time.

Odd Story & Terrible Narration...

Really bad Narration for this story. Narrator might be good w/another type of story w/o accents~especially Scottish!. The story is not a Historical Romance, it is a SciFi Fantasy/Historical Romance & a bad one at that. It's got gaps in plot/story/back story that may not be explained unless you listen to the entire series (something I can not find myself doing, even out of boredom). The FH is ridiculously moronic & a whiner. Make that all female characters in this novel. The male characters, well difficult to explain because I couldn't get past the horrible narration. The story/book series surprised me because, I've read & listened to other novels by this author & I considered them pretty good. The other novels had good story plots & characters that were likeable. Over all this author did not do a good job w/this SciFi Fantasy Romance Novel & the Narrator should avoid any narrative w/Scottish accents. It's possible this could be a decent story with... just a bit "more". More "what" I don't really know. The narrative just adds to the "awful" of this book.
I will not rule out any other books from this author (EXCEPT this series). I will listen to other stories narrated by this narrator (EXCEPT this series).
