For five years, rancher Colby Jansen has been the sole protector of her younger half-siblings, and with fierce determination and work she has kept her family together and the ranch operational. Now, the De La Cruz brothers are threatening that stability. They claim that her siblings belong with their father's family, not with her. Colby vows to fight them - especially the cold and arrogant Rafael De La Cruz. But Rafael is after more than her family; he wants Colby, and will not let anything stand between them. After ages of loneliness, the raw desire to possess her overwhelms his very soul, driving him to claim her as his lifemate.

I must say this was a wonderful surprise. I loved the suspense in this book I couldn't put it down I found myself at my desk at work not being able to stop this book from playing while working it made my day go very fast indeed, If you enjoy fantasy and romance with a twist you will enjoy this book, the twist of vampires was fun and it kept this book very interesting although it was nice to have a good love story, I would not recommend this book if you don't like vampire books because this is one yet the love story is really good I think I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I consider myself an expert when it comes to these types of books, but I have found something new and enticing. I devour books....4-6 books per week. I was going weary with reading the same thing over and over. This series sounds incredible and I can hardly wait to gett through them.
The narrator is great. I often perfer female readers because most books give the female perspective, but this book does a great job of giving both perspectives and I find that I like knowing what the hero is going through.
This book is deeply exotic, but not always due to the sex scenes. It is full of adventure, excitement, romance and fierce domination. If you like that sort of thing....smile....you will love this book.
This series is out of my ordinary listening interest, but I just love the audio books from Feehan's "Dark" series that have been made available so far. Richard Ferrone is wonderful and I'll check out other audio books that he's read - he really does a great job. I also appreciate that these audio book versions are unabridged.
Unfortunately I read the two books available for Christine Feehan's Dark series out of order. But that was ok, the book was still absolutely engaging. There were times I was listening to the story at work and stopped working to listen. Can hardly wait to listen to more of her Dark series.
I usually don't go for the darker thriller type books, but because they said this had some romance I thought to give it a try. Further, I had never read anything by this author. I was impressed and surprised how much I enjoyed the book and how much I just kept wanting more. I found myself wanting to put characters together and not wanting the book to end. I liked all the characters even the evil ones. I enjoyed the level of power the evil one was given. I felt like it took into account that the reader was not stupid. But expected a good challenge and got it. I think this is definitly a book worth reading.
A totally unrepentant audiobook lover, I'll listen to things in audio that I would never entertain on paper.
The narrator of this title made listening to this book truly unbearable for me. I strongly suggust listening to the sample before buying. I've enjoyed many Feehan books in the past, but this rendition was awful.
This is my first time reading a novel involving Carpathians. I probably would have enjoyed the story much more if it had been read by a different narrator. Mr Ferrones's tendency to over-emote & nearly run out of breath with each sentence was very distracting.
The story itself kept me listening. I nearly gave up because of the narration but decided to keep on because I did want to know more about Carpathians as well as what happens to Colby & her sibs.
I would say that the story synopsis really didn't give a true idea of this book. I didn't realize that this was a "bodice ripper". Found it to be tedious and boring. Also found the main characters to be irritating and unbelievable. And the sex....just laughably ridiculous...would have been a much better book with out it. Not worth the money.
I loved this book, which surprised me. The book started out kind of slow but you really grow to love Colby, the leading female character.. she is a hard worker, doesn't let no man push her around or use her and deeply loves her brother and sister. She runs a ranch by herself with the help of her younger brother Paul and she loves horses.
Weird stuff starts happening around the ranch and to make matters worse, her fathers family shows up after many years and wants the ranch and her brother and sister. This is when you meet the main male character, Rafael De La Cruz.
Murder and mayhem over takes Colby's life and to make matters worse she can't keep her hands or her mind off Rafael. He entangles her in manipulation and takes what was not given to him freely. You hate him.
Throughout the book I just kept shaking my head and saying.. "there is no way this book can end on a happy note." As things go from bad to worse. BUT, I was happily mistaken. By the end, I saw things in a different light.. as did Colby.
Give this book a go.. I think you will be happy you did.
Reading is freedom, learning, traveling,
I have enjoyed each book of this series. Richard Ferrone did a wonderful job telling this story. Will be looking for other books where Richard is the narrator.
