Audio Book Fan
I am a longtime fan of Ms. Feehan's works - and a much longer-time fan of audiobooks. One thing which tends to be an irritant is that if an author is known for his/her full length works it's usually like pulling teeth to get an audio version of the short stories, even when they impact the larger body of work. The only three ausio publishers who seem to take the time to do it right are Brilliance Audio (With the JD Robb Books - The ENTIRE Series to Date!), Blackstone Audio (With the Lois McMaster Bujold Vorkosigan Series), and Books In Motion - who is just starting to get the idea. And now, Audible . . . (Now if someone could do "In the Dreaming" so I'd have all the Karen Marie Moning (Before the Next Fever book comes out . . . Sigh)
Anyway - this is a very nice little interlude - and if you've been following the series - you should definately hear this one - if not before Dark Secret - Then DEFINATELY before you listen to Dark Curse!
Wonderful book... only problem is it ended too soon! There is SO much to unravel here and the ending was just kind of abrupt, not much solved. Like she lost interest in the characters. I REALLY hope these characters appear in another book to finish the story!
I love the storylines of the Dark Series. I especially love this trend of narrating the short stories. I really love listening as I am doing chores and exercising. I hope this trend continues with all authors.
I have greatly enjoyed all of Christine Feehan's books and this short one is one of my favorites. Now we only need "Dark Hunger" to complete the set.
I'd have to say that so far this is one of my favorite's in the dark series. Jolie is a strong, confident woman who doesn't suddenly back down to her lifemate. Instead she fights and works with him all the way. We also get to meet Gary again, who originally appears in Dark Magic, and we meet a family of telepath's which sets up more possibilities for the series.
Set in the Carpathian Mountains, Joie (a bodyguard), her brother and sister go caving and come across an ancient warrior (Traian) fighting several vampires. They have no choice but to throw their lot in with the hunter and do their best to escape with their lives from the underground labyrinth filled with ancient traps left behind by a powerful race, Mage.
the book: awesome! yes, there were questions and problems left unresolved, but given this was orinially part of an anthology and shorter than most of Ms. Feehan's books, it was expected. I DO wish she'd there had been a clue that there would be more of this couple and that their problems would eventually be resolved.
the narrator: TOTALLY awesome! the best narriator thus far in this series and i totally do not understand why she hasn't been used more. her voice makes this audio book!!! Somone bring her back for any other "Dark" books that come out!!
I was totally enthralled with the story, Joie and Traian are the best yet!! But...where is the rest of the story? There is more..There has to be more!! Love the series and hoping that the whole story is coming up. Thanks Christine, now that is the way to keep some one coming back for the 'rest of the story'.
The sexy eastern European accent the narrator gave Traian was perfect! I like a tough, capable heroine and Joie was that. The narrator made the book and the story even better with the perfect voices and attitude for the characters. This book may be short but it is excellent.
I have numerous audio titles by Christine Feehan. Some of the narration has been a bit roapy, awful accents and even misinterpretation of characters. But this narration was superb - the accent given to Traian was lovely, and so were representations of the other characters. Well done! Shame the story was a bit short. But well worth it never the less.
