Four years ago, race-car driver Tracey Bradshaw almost died in a horrific crash. Now, scarred inside and out, she's making a comeback, but her team is plagued by a series of "accidents".

When the team leader dies under mysterious circumstances, former driver Mac Reynolds takes charge. The pair clash as Trace resents his high-handed attempts to control her, while Mac fears Trace's recklessness will get her killed. Neither can throttle back the desire that spins out of control whenever they touch. Trace lets herself be seduced when Mac convinces her he finds her beautiful despite her scars, and she begins to hope for more. But Mac knows he's not nearly good enough for Trace….

    "I Couldn't Put It Down"

It was a great book, I couldn't put it down. It had lots of tangents which kept you reading. I would have given the reader 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that you could hear her swallow through out the book which I found annoying. Other than that she was brilliant.

Would you try another book from Dee J. Adams and/or Eve Bianco?

Dee Adams yes. Not sure about Eve Bianco

What didn’t you like about Eve Bianco’s performance?

I enjoyed the story very much and thought Eve Bianco did a great job differentiating the voices. I knew who was speaking as soon as I got into the characters. I have one beef though. You could audibly hear her swallow throughout the book, as if when she was reading, she needed to swallow frequently! I would think that in some sort of editing, one could edit out those noises. It was very distracting and I almost didn't finish listening to the book because of it. Just a personal peeve, but for me very distracting.

    "Slow start, not great narration"

I really enjoy racing so this book caught my attention when I read the description. Unfortunately it didn't quite live up to its potential in my opinion.

Probably my biggest complaint with this book is constantly hearing the narrator swallow. By the end of the book it had become so annoying that I almost stopped listening. Even without that, though, the first half dragged on significantly. It was also pretty obvious who the 'bad guy' was from the beginning. Though, I will say that the author had me second guessing myself several times throughout. It did finally turn out that I was right from the start.

I also have a general issue with romance novels where a couple other than the main one have a love scene before the main couple does. In this case, where the other couple turned out to be very closely related to the main couple, it turned out ok and I see where the other couple added to the story and the outcome.

I didn't read the first book in this series, not sure if that would have made a difference or not.

I have lived in the South since college. I listen to a couple of hundred audiobooks a year, mostly romance and suspense. I have have taken many writing courses over the past half-dozen years and am attempting to write a novel myself. I suspect that learning a lot about the craft of writing and trying to perfect my own writing has made me more conscious of poor writing technique and has made me a tough reviewer.

"Silly protagonist, weak story, fluffy narrator"

The protagonist had no credibility. The book starts as a female race car driver--supposedly intent, dedicated and determined to succeed from a young age--is tearing around turns at over 200 miles an hour, setting track records. While she should be listening to her engine and the sound of her transmission, figuring out how to take the next turn even faster, her heart pounding at her dangerous maneuvers, instead our airhead protagonist is laid back, thinking about her life, her boyfriend, joking amiably over her headphone. I don't THINK so! A race car driver is an athlete. A professional. This is the most important thing she has ever done in her life, for God's sake. And, our protag also has time, during her record-setting maneuvers, to look up at the stands and observe what is going on. PUH-LEASE!

The narrator made the whole thing even worse with her "tee-hee-hee" voice. She used a high-pitched girly narration to comment on the feel of the track and the turns, for example---sounding more like she was oohing over her latest nail polish than an athlete commenting on conditions.

Despite the initial nearly fatal attack on our protag, when the lady next takes the track, no one even seems to pay any attention to the possibility that she may be being targeted so no one pays any attention to the fact that her pills went missing and are found mysteriously. No. Everyone ignores this. Although our protag has already taken pills from a different bottle (and so ignores the newly recovered pills), her mentor takes them. GUESS WHAT HAPPENS FOLKS!!

I didn't get much further than this. It was just too dumb, dumb, dumb.

I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.

    "Good"

Interesting with a touch of mystery and suspense. I actually think it was a little drawn out in places ans also I didn't care for two love stories involved in the plot. I think I'd prefer this to be one of the "buy on sale" books. It's good but for a creditworthy title it has to be great.

"They call this a Race book?"
What would have made Dangerous Race better?

If the book at actually been about racing. This character is only interested in how fast she is going, not how her car is doing, can she get more out of it, is she pushing to almost beyond the limits and she is going to cause a huge wreck - where she as well as others may be seriously injured.

Granted the blurb mentioned "romance" but it did not say that at least half of the book was going to be graphic sex. I had no idea that I was buying a book about sex. Thought I was buying a book about car racing. I'm no prude but would have liked to have known that I was really buying porno book.

Would you ever listen to anything by Dee J. Adams again?

    No!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Eve Bianco?

Can't think of who might take over this book. If I knew what it was really about I wouldn't buy it even is Scott Brick were the narrator.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    Not really any to mention.

This book has a good mix of female toughness and softness. It is a little predictable in some instances, but it keeps you interested. I will be reading another Dee J. Adams book after this one.

"Pretty good start to the series :)"

    3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good story. Tracey and Mac are both likable characters but they get along with each other like oil and water, which certainly kept things interesting. This is the first book I've read by this author and based off this Ill probably try more of her work in the future.

Tracey is a professional race car driver. She was raised in foster care and didn't have a good childhood, spending much of her time hanging out at the race track. Fortunately, Tracey got taken under a wing and grew up to be a great driver. Tracey was engaged to Eddie (the son of Ed, the owner of her race team) but he broke up with her after she was in a horrible wreck 4 years ago and came out of it scarred.

Mac is an ex-race car driver and currently runs a company in England that designs Formula One race cars. Mac loved racing but after a bad crash he didn't trust himself behind the wheel any more so he decided to help his father with the business designing formula one cars. Mac's dad died around a year ago and now he just has his younger brother (who's in his 20s) to look after.

Tracey is back to racing and has been for a few months. She's getting ready for a race at the same track that she wrecked at 4 years before and things are kind of stressful but alright. Things go downhill when Tracey's head mechanic and the man who was like a father to her dies unexpectedly. Mac (who owes Ed a favor) is brought in to take over as lead mechanic for this race until they can find someone permanent. Tracey and Mac have a definite attraction between them but neither is wanting to go where the attraction is leading them. Mac knows it's not a good idea because she's his driver and he's going back home after the race in a couple weeks. Tracey isn't about to get involved with anyone...ever. When Tracey was in the crash it messed up her leg badly and left her with a horrible scar. Eddie couldn't handle it and broke up with her because of it which devastated Tracey and made her unwilling to trust another man. Things start getting worse when the police inform Tracey (and Mac because he's determined to be there for Tracey when she needs it) that her former lead mechanic was murdered and the poison was actually supposed to be for her. They start suspecting that someone has something against Tracey but they don't know who or why.

Tracey has a lot on her hands as more things go wrong and she doesn't know who to trust. Since Mac has no way to gain from her problems and wasn't there when they started, Tracey is willing to trust him even when it seems like the issues may be coming from an insider. While all this is going on, Tracey's long lost sister, Chelsey, shows up and in addition to meeting Tracey, Chelsey becomes involved with another mechanic on Tracey's team, Matt. Since Tracey has never had a family she's happy at the thought of having a sister (if the blood tests prove the relationship) but she also can't help but wonder if it's a coincidence that Chelsey showed up just when things are going badly (although it doesn't seem like Chelsey has a motive). Things are a mess as they try to figure things out and during this all, Mac and Tracey do lose their restraint and end up in a physical relationship, trying desperately not to let their feelings get involved even though they are from the start. Tracey isn't willing to trust Mac (thinking he'll run from her like Eddie) but figures she'll take when she can get for now. Mac knows he's supposed to go back home and his and Tracey's lives don't mesh and he also doesn't think he's good enough for her. Obviously, they have a lot to work through and the stalker/killer doesn't make things easy. There's some definite drama and danger to get through but thankfully the bad guy is captured and Tracey and Mac come out with a well deserved HEA.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked both Mac and Tracey and their story was a good one. It was interesting enough that I was engaged throughout the story. I did suspect who the bad guy was from the start and I ended up being right but there was enough hidden that I wasn't sure and kept wondering if I was right until the reveal. I'm planning to read the next book in the series sometime in the future. I'd recommend this story. :)

What would have made Dangerous Race better?

Somehow I missed that this was a romance first and a race/mystery. Not a big car race fan, but its not about driving the car fast - all of the cars are fast, its about tactics with the other cars. That's missing here. Also the mystery is stuck in first gear.
