Publisher's summary

They killed my sister and infected me.

Now I have to pick up the pieces before I die.

I've spent the last five months trying to find the bastard who did this. Yet, even with the help of a hot amnesiac vampire named Jude, I've had zero luck.

Until now. And it could change everything. Even though I grew up in a family that hunted the supernatural, there were still things I didn't believe in.

Now I have to hurry for the slim chance that I could save us all. Because when you fight against immortal vampires, you're the one who's running out of time.

Easy summer beach read

Where does Damned If I Do rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Its in the middle of a crowded pack as far as other audiobooks I've listened to, I've listened to hundreds....I used to listen to books on tape as a kid, then books on CD etc before audible was created.

Would you recommend Damned If I Do to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend this book to friends who like paranormal/paranormal romance genres. I liked the Harker aspect, very cool that the power passed down generations and if something happens to Edie it will pass to her 3 year old niece, scary, I can’t imagine a 3 year old with that kind of power. Edie's cousin, Carl, was one of my favorite characters and I would definitely read a standalone book about him. Jude was okay to me, I didn’t really connect on the Jude and Edie love story deal, it was secondary to the story for me.

Have you listened to any of Kristin James’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I love Kristin James's narration, she is amaaazing! I like her accents and her voice is so nice to listen to.

Love My Vampires

Would you consider the audio edition of Damned If I Do to be better than the print version?

Yes, I usually get more of a visual in my mind with an audio book, only if the narrator is good.

What did you like best about this story?

I love paranormal and vampires are one of my favorites. This author portrayed vampires as most authors do with a few variations. I always love different authors ideas of what vampires are and how they are still similar to humans. Also the fact that a vampire can fall in love with a vampire hunter.

Have you listened to any of Kristin James’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I can't remember if I have listened to other Kristin James narrations. She did a great job, enjoyed her voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. Nothing against the book, I normally don't laugh or cry reading a book, doesn't mean I enjoy them any less.

A Different Take on the Vampire Genre

What made the experience of listening to Damned If I Do the most enjoyable?

The fact that the characters were so well fleshed out and all the action. There's tons of hidden romance, but no sex. It actually makes you want the story to draw out as long as possible. The anticipation makes it so worth while. I feel like if Jude and Edie should physically hook up, it'll be so explosive.

What other book might you compare Damned If I Do to and why?

I don't think I've ever read a vampire book quite like this one. Not yet anyway. I'm loving this take on the genre.

What does Kristin James bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Getting to listen to the different emotions come through the voices. This such a well narrated story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The part that moved me the most was when Jude finally revealed that he was in love with Edie. It brought a sweet smile to my face.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to start the next book!!! I HAVE to know what happens next!!

Damned if you do!

Narration - Kristin James - pretty good! Good storyteller, good character differentiation.

The story involves a vampire hunter who is on the hunt of her life - literally. She's been bit by a nasty vampire and given a virus that is slowly spreading and killing her. She gets help from her cousin, a vampire with amnesia, a witch of an aunt, some family from beyond and a smattering of other interesting characters.

The whole story is really a mystery and you'll find yourself proposing theories about who is what and what on earth will happen next and what certain warnings mean. Oh, and I Loved her little niece!

I was a little disappointed with the Scooby Doo type reveal towards the end, I personally like for there to be a little more of a complicated revealing or dissection of 'the bad guys' vs them just spewing all their own evil deeds, but, what ya gonna do!

Other than that, I really enjoyed the story and would definitely continue the series.

Surprised

I normally don’t read books like this...but... I was pleasantly surprised. I actually didn’t want to stop! Erin has a great imagination. Didn’t see that twist in the end coming. Needless to say I’ll buy book 2. The Harker isn’t a badass heroic heroine and I think that what makes this book good. I guess I’m so use to the heroine being better and stronger with all the answers but she was a regular woman with powers that makes mistakes. I liked her.

Well done!

urban-fantasy, ghosts, vampire, vampire-slayers, romance, action-adventure, suspense, magic

Suspenseful and with lots of action, this book gives a rather different slant on the whole vampire scene and the role of the Harker family. The writing is absorbing and the characters are engaging. It really caught me and kept me reading when I should have been taking care of other things. No sense in giving a synopsis when the publisher's blurb takes care of that. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
Kristin James has a real talent for giving the characters definition and life.
This came as Whispersync on the cheap.

What's a Harper?

Any additional comments?

( A FEW SPOILERS) ok, this is again, one of those books wrote like your audience is 12. The Harper's, a long line of supernatural killers from centuries past. The oldest daughter in the Harper family receives magical strength, a cool sword that magically comes out of her wrist and the skills to fight an army. Right from the beginning we play stupid with the intelligent reader. The two Harper sisters are shopping for Christmas, they know the boogie men come out at dark, yet they are walking to their car like it's broad day light. suddenly they are attacked by 8-10 vampires, the oldest sister, the chosen one is kicking butt and taking names but the younger, but adult sister is cowering behind her car door. (by the way being a Harper even though not chosen does have some weak powers) The girls is so petrified she can't come up with a spell in her head to help her sister so she just watches. She is in so much fear she can't move while her older sitter is fighting for their lives. Then the vampire in charge tells the chosen one, give up or your sister dies. And what does the famous Harper do without a further fight? Let's the vampires tear her apart from her neck down to her abdomen and yes it was made graphic, and the little sister gets chewed on and mixing her blood with vampire blood is going to having her dying a painful death. So she basically has 6 months to find her sisters killer or she won't be able to rest after dying. And she is so dang dumb at it, it's not even funny. She and her sister has been training their whole lives for this but yet she never thought she would ever become "The Harper" THE END Don't bother if you have intelligence I only listened to the second to book to find out what happens to Jude the just as stupid vampire that is in love with her.
