Publisher's summary

Redemption isn't a word Jim Heron knows much about - his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins.

Vin diPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he's good with that - until fate intervenes in the form of a tough-talking Harley-riding, self-professed savior. But then he meets a woman who will make him question his destiny, his sanity, and his heart - and he has to work with a fallen angel to win her over and redeem his own soul.

Great!

I've read this one before and never got terribly into this series so I thought I'd give it another shot. I REALLY enjoyed this first one. An excellent read for any Black Dagger Brotherhood fan!

Amazing world!

This was nothing like I thought it would be, but am excellent story. Much the same way the black dagger brotherhood ropes you in, this story keeps you going.

Entertaining listen

I was hesitant to purchase this book. I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood books and I was afraid that this one would leave me disappointed. The storyline seemed too different for me to maintain interest as strongly as I do for the BDB books. I was very wrong! I had a very difficult time finding stopping points and kept finding reasons to keep listening "just a little longer...". It also nicely correlates to the BDB books and gives you glimpses of characters familiar if you have read that series. Overall, I'm very glad that its in my library!

fabulous book, flat narration.

I am very glad I read "Covet" before it came to Audible. As always, J. R. Ward delivers an action-packed sexy story with an interesting premise and intriguing characters. I was thrilled that two of the brothers made appearances and I liked getting to know characters who only had a minor role in the BDB books.
I was extremely disappointed when I discovered that Jim Frangione wasn't the narrator. Eric Dove's rather unemotional narration really detracted from the story. He gave Vin diPietro a strange accent that made me squirm with discomfort every time Vin talked. Because of this, it took me well over a month to listen to the entire book.
If you are already a J. R. Ward fan, the lack-luster narration probably won't scare you away, but if this is the first audio book you've experienced by J. R. Ward, I highly recommend that you read her Black Dagger Brotherhood series before reading Covet.

Not bad, but it's not the BDB series

The "foreshadowing" in this book is about as subtle as getting punched on the back of the head... for example Vin tells us about getting his "Madonna" card just in time for the "bad guy" to point out that he's got a fetish for the Madonna (and a statue of her in his bed... whatever that's supposed to be about).

The sex is more "rushed" than it was in any of the BDB. Less angst, less build-up, less graphic. Not sure if this is good or bad, but anyway. Of course, there IS sex and it is on the detailed side, but it is not as "developed" as Ward's other works.

The story is pretty good I suppose - just not as "complicated" as it could have been and there's no mystery to any of it. And the ending was a bit dull - after the big hoo-haa battle with the bad guys there's another chapter of blahblahblah happily ever after crap. Ho-hum.

The narration is just okay. There were many points where it was hard to tell if it was Jim or Vin talking though because there wasn't enough distinction in their "voicing". And the narration of the sex scenes was a little... err... weird. Almost like the narrator was "in" the scene or something.

I'll still read the next book though 'cause I'm hoping the reviews that say it's better are accurate. Go get the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, and Frost's Night Huntress ones, oh, and Moning's Fever series too... they're all as good (or better) than this one.

It's no Blackdagger Brotherhood book!

It was fair at best. Kind of disappointing when you've read the Blackdagger Brotherhood series. I can't image becoming as invested in the fallen angel characters as Ward's others. The narrator was pretty good.

Different, but very good!! My 1st JR WARD read.

This is the first book I have read by J.R.Ward and I loved it. It took me a few chapters to get into it as it does almost all the time with a new-to-me author because I need to get a feel for the author's style. Once I got past that, the story, for me, flowed and really grabbed my interest and was hard to put down. I am already anticipating the next book in the Novel of the Fallen Angels series that is listed to be out around October 5,2010. I am also looking into the Black Dagger Brotherhood series (that I have heard so much about, good and just okay.)However, when all is said and done, I think J.R has found a new fan in me!!

Liked the story, but...

This took a while to get started, but ultimately was okay. Narrator - not good. Very hard to tell when we switched characters which was off putting.

Covet by J.R. Ward

I download books to listen to while I work. I have listened to some great books but this is my favorite of all so far. It is an orginal story line the keeps you engaged in the story chapter after chapter! I can't wait for the sequel!

Great first novel

I've never been into romance/erotic novels, but this series came highly recommended and I can see why now. It's not just a romance novel, but very detailed in its fantasy writing and character background.

Can't wait to start the second novel.
