"It's a shame this is in the erotica section!"

Wow what a pleasant surprise this book was, intrigue, action, romance. I just wish for Kaylea sake they would move this to the romance section, that's truly where it belongs the love scenes are hot but tame by erotica standards. this book is definitely miscategorized! If it were in the romance section, more people would get to enjoy this authors work!

"A lot of action, misadventure, and some romance"

Reading the other reviews for this book, I thought I should chime in to clarify a few things. First, the book is entertaining. Second, it definitely is miscategorized if its pegged as erotica since it took forever for anyone to act on attraction and it was 1980s lukewarm. That's not to say it was bad, but for a lot of folks, they would prefer to skip erotic details and they'd like this book. Our male hero is wonderfully emotional which is very unusual for this genre (think of Lucky ODonlon of Suzanne Brockmann's series). He knows pretty quickly that he wants long term, but wisely doesn't share that immediately.

Now, for tactical: I have returned a book of Ms Cross before because of the weak premise and poor research. In the wild opening chapters, I kept mentally thinking of several books with the same premise and a few episodes of The Unit and of course, the movie Navy Seals with Charlie Sheen. This might not be fair because I'm getting to the end of this genre's library shelf and its getting hard for me to find "fresh".

There were some glaring and less glaring tactical errors (such as leaving your principle in a firefight mentioned by another reviewer) that are consistent with Ms Cross writing. She's done some reading up, but for those of us a bit more familiar with military strategy or tactics,or these particular spec warriors...yeah, we're gonna be irritated. For the general reader however, it was an entertaining and enjoyable read. We suspend reality on the later part of the book as they chase the devil to ground. But on the other hand, it was refreshing to have her place events, people and motivations within the actual context (Mahdi Army; Muktada al Sadr etc). And in fact, I did sit for a while thinking about some current events from a perspective she introduced. Can't say that's common at all for me after reading one of these.
So, despite the caveats above, I enjoyed the story and the listen enough to overlook weaknesses in plot and storyline. The narration was well done and very much added to the enjoyment.

If you like Suzanne Brockmann, Marliss Melton, Stephanie Tyler, Catherine Mann then you'll likely enjoy this one too.

"Deck is the worst seal ever"
If you could sum up Cover of Darkness in three words, what would they be?

Story was ok but the seals would be ashamed. Deck was terrible. He just leaves his principle then he's pissed when she gets hurt. Jackass.

    "loved the book"

I loved this book it was action packed with a woman that wasn't helpless and also caring witch I love. the alpha male was delicious he was sweet and strong and reliable. I read one review saying that Dec was never thier and was a horrible seal, well that person was wrong he was doing his job and protecting the girl as best he could. I would like to see that person try to do what he had to do and then some....the on thing I wish would have changed was the ending it's like the book just stopped. the wright could have brought the book so much further or even made a second book on how they left the ending but I haven't seen any new books out by this author for three years.

    "This was ok"

This book has a little too much going on. Maybe I'm simple, but I almost needed a guide book to go along with it so I could keep up with the characters. Good story, though, and the reader did pretty good.

"No Place for A Pause Button"

This story started out fast and just kept getting faster until my heart was pumping fast and I was straining to drown out all background noise.
Bryn goes from just surviving a explosion to being left to die in the middle of nowhere. But for a small act of kindness she would not have made it until our hero entered the scene.
Declan McCabe's (I love the name, by the way.) a Navy Seal Lieutenant has the honor of rescuing Bryn and finds himself quickly taken by the brave beauty. Bryn isn't doing so good resisting this handsome man that pulled her away from death's door either.
They struggle with their attraction and deeper feeling, but it's a lost cause and I was only too thrilled with their failure to stay away from each other.
The first two attempts on Bryn's life aren't the end of the danger. The plot thickens and there are twists and turns that will take your breath away. This was an action packed book.

    "So flawed and incomplete..."

For a story to be good it needs to be a person in its own way. This story is doesn't meet the mark. There is no wit, no humor, no character. it just doesn't step out of the page, so to speak. It does not bring the characters to life or come to life itself. I'm trying to find a way to describe this gray, bland, waste of time. The narrator was okay, and nothing else was. Okay, I mean. Buy a different book.
