Publisher's summary

Nothing's as fun as other people's secrets.

A regency romp both on and off the London stage.

Laura Edwards, a French émigré fallen on hard times, took to the stage to support her brother's medical career. Now that he's established, he wants her to turn respectable, landing her in the country hiding in plain sight from one of her biggest admirers, Jasper Rushford, the care-for-nothing son of the local viscount. He just might have recognized her...

Enjoyable Romance!

I really enjoyed the tale of romance, in this book, without unnecessary sex scenes. The characters were believable, and the last chapters were very exciting. The narrator’s male voices didn’t work well, in my opinion. However, her overall performance was good.

Not your usual regency

Enjoyed this wrap up to the series very much. I liked the growth of so many characters throughout the series, especially Lord and Lady Fairchild. All the characters have human foibles to overcome. Didn’t miss steamy sex scenes usually so repetitive in the genre. Clever dialogue and engaging plot. Laura and Jasper are a fun couple. Will look for more from this author and narrator.

Better than I Thought

Going into it, I wasn’t sure I would be able to get past the first few chapters. As much as I love Lucy Paterson’s narration, she gave Jasper a nasal, weasley voice, and he was written as an overgrown child in the previous two books. I didn’t think I could see him as a romantic lead. I did finish this book and the story wasn’t all that bad. It is a bit convoluted in places, and begs for whatever it can get to patch the large holes in the story. Sometimes it settles on confusion to get the job done. At least it isn’t half-hearted about it - it blatantly steps into the quicksand and smiles as it sinks. I forgave and forgot and moved on. Much easier than trying to untangle the hopeless ball of yarn. I think the author and the narrator both like Jasper the best. They give him a spiffy intelligence and he can run circles around everyone else. That was the fun part. He is quite creative. I did not like the leading lady. At all. He deserved far, far better than the self-inflated egomania she relishes. She is horribly flawed and she wallows in that fact like it is a high honor.

Loved it

So many twists and turns that keep me entertained and smiling. When an author can give us a true romance without confusing love with lust it is refreshing and enjoyable. Well done.

Great Romance

Loved this story as well as the two preceding books. Romance without erotica enhanced the depth of the characters and depth of the story. Looking forward to enjoying more books by this author.

A la Georgette Heyer

A beautiful love story with compelling characters who are truly likable. Reminded me of Georgette Heyer without being an exact replica. The style of writing is poetic and displays a level of real talent seldom found in a typical romance. I loved this entire trilogy.

Wonderful

Not a typical romance, thank God ! I've read all three in the series, this is my favorite. I appreciate how finely developed the characters are, and that this is not a paint by numbers romance novel. I also appreciate the lack of graphic sex scenes. Plenty of passion here, just not explicit. At this point in my life, most sex scenes are just cringey and I skip them anyway. No need for that here ! There is a plot device she uses in this book that was a bit trite (unlike the other two), other than that, it's a lot better than the typical romance novel. I consider Laura Kinsale and Diana Gabaldon may favorite writers in this genre, Jaima is joining the ranks in my book ! Hope to see more from her in the future.

Great story

I loved this book! The only thing that would’ve made it better would be if the narrator could distinguish her voice more between the two leads. I sometimes confused Jasper and Laura’s lines.

Modern characters dressed in period costume

I didn't care for this book. The H and h were very adept at falsehood and manipulation. The end justifies whatever means. The characters defined by the author as the "good guys" do win in the end, but their decisions are "cringe-worthy." Truth is whatever is convenient. I didn't listen to it all the way through. Too tacky.

Witty and entertaining!

I’ve read 3 books in this series and enjoyed all! I particularly enjoy the character of Jasper, and find the narrator does a great job with both male and female voices! Each novel has a very unique plot. I was so glad that this story pulled the family characters from the first two books back together again and still added new characters. Both of the lead characters in this book are quick and witty and made this very entertaining to listen to!
