Publisher's summary

Within the pages of very rare books, some centuries old, lie the secrets of the paranormal. Abby Radwell’s unusual psychic talent has made her an expert in such volumes - and sometimes taken her into dangerous territory. After a deadly incident in the private library of an obsessive collector, Abby receives a blackmail threat, and rumors swirl that an old alchemical text known as The Key has reappeared on the black market. A number of ruthless people are searching for the book. Some believe that Abby can find it for them.

Abby wants no part of it. But the pressure mounts after a rare-book dealer dies mysteriously. Convinced that she needs an investigator who can also play bodyguard, Abby hires Sam Coppersmith, an expert in paranormal crystals and amber - “hot rocks.” Passion flares immediately between them, yet neither entirely trusts the other. Both are concealing secrets. Both have their own agendas. Sam concludes that the only way to keep Abby safe is to take her to property owned by his rich and reclusive family - a compound in the small town of Copper Beach, on a private island. But small towns are no safer than large cities when it comes to dealing with a killer who has paranormal talents, and a blackmailer who will stop at nothing to obtain an ancient alchemical code....

Something just does not click

Would you try another book from Jayne Ann Krentz and/or Tanya Eby?

YesI like both the Author and Narrator

I am not sure if it's me but i just could not get really drawn into the book

This is an arcane style story with out any mention of the Arcane Society or Jones and Jones etc but this should not matter if the story compels

I also think this will be a series set around the Coppersmith Siblings not the normal arcane past, present and future trilogy format.

Maybe I will feel different after a reread.

It's not as if it's a bad story it's just not one that drags you into it's world deeply . . . at least for me.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Not bad with a twist some may not have seen coming but a bit rushed all the same

What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tanya's character voices are distinct but as is the case in most books with a male and female lead i think audiobooks would be better served with male & female narrators. This is no reflection on Tanya as All female narrators can't do an excellent full range of male voices just as male narrators can't do female voice really well.

In fact i think female narrators do a more credible job of the male voices as a whole that the male narrators do of female voices

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Movies are never as good as the books . . .

Copper Beach- ok story (Paranormal but not arcane)

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I think my biggest problem with this story was that I felt that I was in limbo as to where this story fell. It felt like an arcane book even using the same terms for discribing the paranormal stuff but not once was Arcane mentioned. I had a hard time buying into the cocept that the 2 paranormal worlds could be running parallel, yet be completly oblivious of each other.

SO I would either tie this story back to the arcane series* (are they or aren't they supposed to be running in parallel lines?) or use different terminology to describe the paranormal (because its very distracting to think that there is a branch out paranormal type culture that knows completely nothing about the first yet they all use the same coded terms to describe stuff.)

Because of this issue I had a hard time focusing in on the story... I found myself becoming distracted and missing stuff but not really feeling invested enough in the story to go back to the point I had become distracted. It was kinda disappointing to me because I happen to have every book In the arcane series* under all three names (A Quick, Castle, and Krentz) as well as a good number of her other books either in audio or book format. Her book just before this one (Canyons of night) was pretty good and was suppose to be the start of this new series, so I was really looking forward to this one (THIS WAS NOT ONE OF HER BEST)

What was one of the most memorable moments of Copper Beach?

I don't know maybe the scene on the balcony garden, because they get all involved in the moment only to be brought back to reality by the dog! I could relate because if you have kids (or a dog) you know that they are always interrupting you right when you get to the good part.

Which scene was your favorite?

I kinda liked the scene in the garage parking lot because it had some funny dialog. Also because I have a hunch that Garrison (or maybe it was Garrett or whatever his name was because Like I said I really wasn't paying too close of attention) I think he may figure in a future book ( probably with Sam's sister Emma)

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

possibly it would depend on my mood

Any additional comments?

once I got past he whole discrepancy between terms and vocabulary and whether or not this was running on a parallel time line (because honestly Abby would've at least been aware of Arcane... what with her job, and arcane (particularly Fallon) would've been aware of coppersmith Inc.) But once I got past what was really bugging me it was an alright story and I did like the characters and the dialog as always was witty and clever.

If you like JAK, you will like this.

What made the experience of listening to Copper Beach the most enjoyable?

I have read/listened to a lot of Ms. Krentz's books. I will admit they run together. But they are uniformly well done, consistent in story, with humor and warmth.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not particularly. But this was a book I chose to use in my longer walks.

Fast moving, good plot and good narration

The character Sam

Have you listened to any of Tanya Eby’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but she was an easy listening..not a middle school immature whiney voice

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Had I had the non interrupted time -- it would have been a one sitting....

Another Terrific Entry - Wished it Was Longer

Where does Copper Beach rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

Within the pages of some very rare books lie old secrets of the paranormal and it would be a rare talent that could decipher said manuscripts. Abby Radwell was one very of those with that rare and special psychic ability to unlock the codes and delve into the oftentimes dangerous territory that dwelled within these volumes. After a terrifying incident at the private library of her recent employer, Abby received a blackmail threat which led her hire an investigator recommended to her by one of her mentors. This ???investigator??? was also someone who had psychic ability in dealing with ???hot??? rocks and crystals. Sam Coppersmith, investigator, was more than just a bodyguard, his abilities with hot rocks and his hot looks would be Abby???s salvation and serve them both well when murder stalked them both as the race to obtain a book, ???The Key??? which would bring them into countless dangerous scenarios and murder mysteries.???
*** COPPER BEACH is the start of a new paranormal series, Dark Legacy, for the ever popular Jayne Ann Krentz who just happened to completely entrap me with her Arcane Series. You would be correct in saying that I have become one of her most ardent fans. A true statement, but only because she delivers time and again, the most intriguing characters, combined with unbelievable action and plot lines in the romantic suspense/fantasy genre. ???
Krentz???s characters are always unusual and I am constantly surprised and amazed with what new psychic talents she can come up with for both her protagonists and villain???s alike. In this new series she has started out with Abby who can by touch recognize ???hot??? books which are very old and rare usually from some ancient alchemists who have locked them with codes of their true findings - if someone has the talent to decipher the code. Abby has that talent and yet to make Abby multi-dimensional Krentz also deigned to give Abby a troubled, somewhat dysfunctional childhood, which worked even more towards building more of a mystery into the complexity of the plot and the main villain. ???
Bottom Line: The addition of the sensual and sexual physical attraction between Abby and Sam who don???t really trust one another???s motives just adds more to an already fabulous plot which is a page turner from start to finsh! COPPER BEACH is a highly recommended read. Terrific!???

Reader is awful, characters don’t make sense

First off the reader is awful. Tanya Eby has a voice I just can’t stand.

Second, the characters do nothing logical. There is no romance or relationship so sticking the characters together and making them kiss doesn’t make sense. As soon as the M gets hurt she makes him sleep in a chair AFTER they have been sleeping together on the regular. Stupid.

Characters jump to odd non logical conclusions. The paranormal abilities are not believable even by other characters in the story who should probably know better. It als isn’t clear what these abilities are in the first place.

I don’t recommend this book. Looks like this author is popular but based on this book I don’t know why.

Do not recommend. Will return.

Copper Beach: A Dark Legacy Novel

Would you listen to Copper Beach again? Why?

I generally do not listen to books more than once but on this occasion I would consider it as I did enjoy the story line.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narration was better than a lot of book I listen to and did not detract from the listening pleasure.

Any additional comments?

I recommend Copper Beach to those of you who like me enjoy a good book with a fantasy story line. I am currently reading the second book in this series and look forward to more from this author

Another great read

Great precursor for the harmony series. It helps to explain the origins of the crystals.

Great story poor narration

What disappointed you about Copper Beach?

I could hardly handle the voice quality of the narrator. Excellent story, but I was unable to listen to it in the presence of others. I got used to her voice, but I will ask for a sample the next time i purchase an audio book. 8 hours is a long time to listen to a voice that is unpleasant.

What did you like best about this story?

Good and gripping story. I really love the series.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Satisfied for a story well told
