Publisher's summary

They told me I'd be an escort; they made it sound so easy.

Really, I'm just a high-priced call girl.

Desperation brought me to this, and it led me to him, my one and only client.

Hating him is easy; he reminds me of my shame.

Wanting him is wrong; it fills me with guilt.

Loving him is a losing battle, yet it's become everything.

A gift and a curse, he consumes my every thought, and I'd rather play my part in his bed than to spend one day without him.

Loved this book

Would you listen to Contractual again? Why?

Absolutely! It had me hooked from the start.

What did you like best about this story?

The story goes to show you what people would do if they are desperate enough and some how things always work out.

What does Lia Langola bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I've listened to many of Lia's books and have NEVER been disappointed. She is a wonderful narrator and I will continue to seek out more of her work.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Without a doubt.

Liked it but...

Sage is a single woman struggling to make ends meet. Estranged from her family and in a new city jobless with no friends she takes a job as an escort.

Jackson Stone does not to relationships and avoids emotional attachments. Tired of looking for women who meet his needs he decides to hire an escort to make things easier.

Jackson is an alpha to the core. It really is his way or the highway. He can come off as a jerk and be ruthless. Sage is sweet and innocent and stands no chance when it comes to Jackson.

The story started off well, but then sort of flat lined for me. After the second meeting it jumps into a month later and Sage is already falling for Stone. Their pasts are briefly explored but not in depth and I needed that to be able to connect more with Jackson and Sage. It did have a great epilogue and it was my favorite part of the story.

It's told in dual POVs, and Lia did a great job with the narration. I will continue to listen to books narrated by her.

Story : 3 stars
Hero: 3.5 stars
Heroine: 3 stars
Narrator: 4 stars

Pretty Good Story

Where does Contractual rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In the middle. I have listened to some bummers and I have listened to some extraordinary ones.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the fact that even though the relationship started out not so hot. It ended with both of them getting exactly what they wanted.

Which character – as performed by Lia Langola – was your favorite?

I liked Sage and Jackson. She did an excellent job on both characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I actually did listen to it in one sitting. This was my reading time so I just finished the book.

Any additional comments?

Sage and Jackson make a great pair. Think Pretty Woman with an erotic twist. They are both wounded souls who find what they need and lack in each other.Jackson never wanted a relationship because of his upbringing and Sage did not want another because of how her most recent ended. After running from him he finds her again and they reunite stronger than ever.

Great listen...Steamy much?!?!?!?

This book was very well written to grab you and hold you until the end. I really thought the narration was great and the writing was superb. The story is somewhat cliche in that Jackson is a real douche, but it's because of the way he was raised and he ultimately falls for a wholesome girl, Sage, who's down on her luck. But the dialogue and storyline read smoothly and the twists and turns keep you engaged. I had to reluctantly pause on multiple occasions spanning two days!

I thought the narration was done very well. It was smooth and flowed very well. The inflection and emotion were done nicely and she got a bit into it during the steamy parts, which is much better than a mundane and monotonous telling of a sex scene.

I did feel like Jackson was quite a bit overbearing and got quite whiny at times, and Sage was a little too mousy and self-denigrating. But throughout, they both show the other sides of their personalities which I think helped to balance it out a bit.

Ending was pretty good, except for the part where Jackson reverted to complete A-Hole after learning his fate. I thought he was joking at first, then when I learned he wasn't, I felt like reaching into the book and strangling him.

Lots of sex, and lots of graphic descriptions. I enjoyed it, just know it's in there in case you might be offended.

I received a free copy of this audio book for an honest review.

Great narrator!

Lia Langola is a new narrator to me and I like her voice. She sounded age-appropriate for the story and has a confidence voice (thankfully she is not nasally or whiney!)

She did well with a rather formulaic story (a desperate girl, who will do anything to survive, meets a alpha rich man) and I will definitely be on the look out for more books narrated by Lia

The same but different

I feel like I've read versions of this book before but on the other hand I don't, and I f the author didn't make a reference to Pretty Woman I don't think I would have made the connection. I appreciate that Sage really tried to find 'honest' work and continued to do so throughout the book, made the storyline more believable. Jackson and Sage both had a history that could have been expanded on and at times it felt a bit rushed but overall I enjoyed the story.
The narrator was great and easy to listen to as well.

Decent Story

This story was kind of predictable from the beginning. A poor girl, who will do anything to survive, meets a rich man. I felt like there was not enough character development, and I would have liked to know more about some things. I thought that the hero was a jerk, and I don’t believe that he could have changed so quickly. I didn’t like how the heroine was so forgiving toward him. In overall, it was an decent read, but the ending left me unsatisfied, and I feel like it had much more potential.

This is my first time listening to a book narrated by Lia Langola. She is a wonderful narrator and her voice was refreshing. I will continue to seek out more of her work.

Better than I thought it would be

What did you love best about Contractual?

I liked how Sage didn't bend to Jackson's will. Even though she would concede, she would fight but she knew she was between a rock and a hard place

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sage. She was strong. She was under contract with Jackson but she didnt allow him to treat her like crap.

Any additional comments?

I read the book about Victoria before I listened to this and I felt like I may not like this story but it was really good. I like how Sage didn't fall over Jackson at their first meeting like I have read in other books. She thought he was an douche and their first sexual experience was not the best for her. I like how Jackson didn't immediately change which seemed more realistic to me. I really enjoyed listening to this book.
