Publisher's summary

After losing his betrothed, Ceana, to a Lowlander, Laird Gabriel MacKinnon is charged with saving her cousin along with a brood of children from an impenetrable castle. Though the lady he's been tasked with protecting has been accused of a heinous crime, Gabriel has no fear of her. In fact he's a little irritated at the prospect of delivering her to her kin. But this hardened, cold warrior just may find his heart melting, for the hellion brings out a passionate side he'd thought long buried.

Lady Brenna has had more than her share of hardships, and when freedom looks to be on the brink of her horizon, she's not about to let some moody Highlander take it all away. She'll stop at nothing to keep her children safe - and to guard her heart - even though the warrior's heated kiss threatens to change every vow she's ever made and every belief about love she's ever known.

Contains mature themes.

Too Much Flip Flop

I just couldn't take all the inconsistencies. H&H both, but mostly Heroine spent most of the time going from absolute hatred, fear and distrust to absolute adoration and complete trust with no reason for either. Instant attraction is fine, but the relationship never built or over came issues. It just flip flopped back and forth. Brenna would consent to do this or that and then right in the middle suddenly stop and demand something stupid before she would go on. Plus, I usually like Antony Ferguson as a narrator, but this time, I had to laugh every time he said Brenner instead of Brenna.

A Little Predictable But Enjoyable

Nice start to a new series. I enjoyed this book because I got into the characters. Brenna is a protective mother, and when you learn what happened to her, it is understandable. Also, Gabriel is a little gun-shy when it comes to relationships. That is understandable as well. However enjoyable, the ending seemed rushed.

Antony Ferguson is always good.

Conquered by the Highlander

Wonderful story about a hardheaded woman warring between what she wants and what her stubbornness/strength tells her she needs. Anthony Ferguson gets 5 Stars all day long! He is a wonderful narrator. 💗

Starts out great..ends up rushed

The main male character started as a fearsome Warrior and ended up being whiny and to nice. The female main character started out sassy-then is taken, abused, beaten and broken. her captives die, she is blamed and now she’s Sassy again...the story moves along like it about to have a great point then, it leaves you wondering did I miss it? There was so much about this book that could have been superb but I felt it just kept missing the mark. I loved the possibilities these characters could have had.

Brenna and Gabriel

I love this book. Such a wonderful story of how Brenna overcame devastating beginnings, protected her children and eventually found Gabriel whose life was made complete by finding his Brenna. And the narration is perfect. Antony Ferguson has surely won many awards for his outstanding narration.

Frustrating

I have several other books by this author and have enjoyed them. This series is frustrating because the main character is so damn stupid. An offer of help to save her children and all she can do is act like an idiot. Disappointing & irritating

overall great story and listen

I have not read Eliza Knight book that I haven't liked yet. overall I enjoyed the story but I wish there was a little bit more at the end. I'm very much looking forward to reading the second book. I'm hoping to see these two characters pop up in the second book or in a different part of the series.

Very nice!

This was a very nice story but nothing outstanding. The hero, Gabriel, was a fine, talented warrior and a good laird. Previously he had only one love but upon meeting the heroine, Breena, he finds that he has never known love before. Breena, having been forced into a loveless marriage with an ogre of a man who saw his wife as a possession and breeding stock, is afraid of another marriage with any man. She has never enjoyed the marriage bed because she had only been used in her first marriage. She did have her four children as a result but there was no love lost otherwise. She finds she is slowly coming to admire Gabriel rather than being afraid of him and realizes after comparatively a long while that she actually has feelings for him. Typical romance novel plot. The writing was disappointing this time, however. The telling of the story was choppy at best. The story didn’t flow naturally. And then it ended. The End! Even the surprise ending wasn’t a surprise in that I guessed it early on. The narrator, as always, was very good. He always is.
