Branded a harlot for undoing a confining button on her blouse, Catherine Langton finds herself rejected by the man she is to marry, leaving her in a predicament: mail order bride or the poorhouse. Her decision is simple, and she arrives in Liberty, Montana, to marry a man she's never seen, her only desire to be a pleasing wife.
Jake Bridger exceeds Catherine's expectations at first glance. He looks as if he stepped from the pages of the Western romances she knows she shouldn't read. But she's about to find out that the men of Liberty are not like other men. Here, a wife is expected to make all of herself available to her husband, even parts a good girl like Catherine never expected a man to plunder. It's not an easy adjustment, but Jake isn't a man to take no for an answer, and he sets about training his new bride using techniques that soon have Catherine wantonly eager for his attentions.
But can Catherine live with her new husband's explicit requirements when it opposes everything she's known?
If you're looking for a smoking-hot Western that breaks the mold, then this first book in the Montana Maidens Series won't leave you just satisfied but eagerly awaiting the continuation of the sexiest, most wildly explicit adventure to hit the open range of publishing in a very long time.

Historical erotica, this is a fun one. While you have to put aside some reality, the story of a mail order bride coming to Montana from the city is always interesting. What could make you drop everything and marry someone you never met? Well in this case, Catherine had her hands full from the first day. Jake, a dominant male, had some ideas of how a wife should be. I do think that Catherine's naivete was a little much at times...if someone was putting a pill in me and all day long I just wanted to have sex, I might have caught on. Seems this town of women were all a little blind to the facts. But beside that, the book was a quick listen, fun and very erotic!
Lauren Sweet is a favorite of mine as a narrator(she does the Blueberry Lane series by Katy Regnery) and continues to give an incredible performance with this story. This was my first Brian Hunter narration, and his voice was perfect for the Montana man of Jake, sounding just as I figured a rancher would.
All I can truly say, having lived in Montana for over 15 years of my life, this books accusations of a lifestyle common to anywhere in Montana is a LIE! I've Never heard such garbage as this! Not worth money, time, or any of one's intelligence to listen to.
Love all things romance but willing to take the chance on something else.
It's not hard to get lost in the story. Made my commute much more enjoyable. It was nice to get lost in the past and forget the present for a little while. Had me looking forward to seeing what the author has in store for her readers in book two.
This story packs a lot in just a few hours. It brings a spin on the mail order bride from America's history - very erotic. Lauren Sweet did a great job of bringing Catherine to life.
It didn't make me laugh or cry but there were times where you had to feel sorry for Catherine. It's sad when men feel that they have to use artificial means in order to get what they want from a woman. But that just plays into the mindset where we don't think a lot of men back then were very smart. This proves that wrong.
One thing I liked was having the two narrators. It adds a little extra to my listening pleasure. My only issue was with narrator Brian L. Hunter - he brings my brother to mind. You don't want to think of your brother reading you such a hot read - ew factor. And that was one reason that I had a hard time envisioning the Jake Bridger character as hot. I think that the author did a great job in creating a town that may have actually existed during that time period. The Dom/sub lifestyle had to start somewhere - why not here. This was a story where earbuds were a blessing because this is not a book for little ears or having coworkers eavesdropping on.
I voluntarily reviewed an audio version of this book.

Vanessa Vale does historical erotica right. And this series does not disappoint. Set in a fictional town with unusual marital practices, this spicy tale is absolutely tantalizing. With more subservient women of that time period, the premise was easy to sink into... and then relax and let the tingling begin! The entire book was sexy, sexy, sexy.
While I liked the female narrator, I didn’t like the male voice as much. But it was okay. The female brought across the fear and uncertainty of Catherine - bringing the story to life.
If you aren't afraid of erotica and are looking for a spicy audio book, Claiming Catherine is a great selection. Its quick, dirty and oh so good.
I don’t know why I have waited this long to review an audiobook. I have been listening to some audio books when I get a chance but I never found it to be my thing really to be honest bar a couple. Until the opportunity to listen Vanessa Vale’s Montana Maidens was presented to me. Claiming Catherine narrated by Lauren Sweet and Brian L. Hunter was addictive and down right dirty tale that I couldn’t get enough of.
Set in a little town in Montana, Vale weaves a tale of a mail order bride who escapes St Louis after being publicly disowned by her finance. With everyone knowing the scandal and at the ripe age of 24 ,Catherine agrees to become mail order bride knowing it her only chance to save herself from the poor house
Never expecting Jake Bridger and his ways, born and raised in the town and who follows the tail traditions when it comes to taming wives. He everything and more then she ever expected but Jake wants certain things from his wife and it totally against everything she was brought up to expect in marriage life.
Vale’s historical erotica tale of mail order bride didn’t disappoint. Whilst I was expecting a steamy tale , she takes things to the point of OTT but it’s perfect. I loved seeing Catherine pushed as Jake claimed her and it made for something steamy scenes that narrators got perfectly.
Whoever chose these two to narrate the book was a genius. They nailed things perfectly. The voices weren’t monotone and I love how they brought things to life. They went at things at full gusto and flowed well.
If you are looking for an audio book to spicy up your ears. Claiming Catherine will definitely fit the bill. It took things to the next level and I enjoyed listening to one of my favourite authors on audio
I really enjoyed listening to this book. The story is a hot steamy mail order bride western and the narration is well done. Looking forward to listening to more in this series.
For what it was it wasn't a bad story. The female reading was fine, I have listened to other books she has narrated and like her voice for the parts. It was the male voice that I didn't care for in this book.
I enjoy reading, listening and reviewing. I enjoy blogging. Doing what I enjoy giving feed back in hopes someone will try a new author.
I do not even know where to begin I am still in shock. I know in this time frame women didn’t have a lot of say about issues. I have a hard time believing that every man in a town including the preacher and doctor would agree to this life style. I had no idea that this was an Erotica read I guess had I went to Amazon and not Audible to read the description I would have know this before signing up to review it. As with most Erotica reads there is very little story and I do not mind sex but I really would like a story with it which this book has very little of. When the preacher asked if they wanted him to cork her, my mouth fell open. I have a hard time believing a man of God would do this to an innocent or any women. The next place I have a hard time believing is when he thought it was ok for his brothers to see her with no clothes on or even touch her in private places. Had I been this women and got branded a harlot for undoing a confining button on her blouse (which would be correct in this time period) and then walked into a marriage of this kind I would have run for the hills never to have returned. I know they had BDSM very early in history but as a mail order bride that is an innocent and all the man in town are doing this I have a hard time buying that.
Dom/Sub relationships are based on trust this story was not. First they have to drug their wives up their butts with corks and plugs to even get them in the mood to do the deed whenever the husband wants. Then they have to keep them drugged for the rest of their lives so they can do the deed whenever and wherever they want to with whatever people might be around. There is no trust this is all about control and getting all they can get whenever they want by drugging the women to make them sick so she would understand that she needed to take her meds like a girl little girl. His reply is I am only doing what is right for you to keep you safe and healthy I am only thinking of you. I found very little romance in this story. I will give the author credit for turning around Jake at the end to wanting to make his wife happy in return making him happy with what he wanted. The one thing about a story is if it is believable and the author makes you buy into it. This story is not believable yes it is fiction but it is not believable.
Narration by Lauren Sweet, Brian L. Hunter was really good they put emotion into the read. You felt Catherine pain, embarrassment, her sorrow and so much more. You felt how controlling each man were and the thrills they were getting from treating women like trash, from embarrassing them and making them feel lower than life. There are not any background noises or interruption just a clear listen with lots of emotions. You have no trouble knowing what each character is going through. The different character voices were good. I would have liked it better had the women been done by Ms. Sweet and the male by Mr. Hunter in no way does it take away from the listen. All in all these narrators did an outstanding job. I given them 5 stars and feel they deserve this after narrating this story.
I am so sorry this story has a pretty good plot but not much of a story. The only thing I got out of this story are the men are controlling and get off on the thrills of from treating women like trash, from embarrassing them and making them feel lower than life along with degrading them. Yes I will agree some of this went on all through history but a WHOLE town? This is what we know as abuse to demean, embarrass, control and put down. If it had not been every man in town even the preacher and doctor I would have bought into this story. Book 2 in this series does sound like a great read and I am hoping it will be a little better than this one maybe have a story with it. I have promise to review both books and will do so with an open mind as long as there is a story with the sex. I just cannot buy into a whole town going along with this. If it had more of a story and not just the deed of control and the means they gain that control I could go along with the rest of it. I really hate to give a bad review and do not take on a book I feel I can’t give at least a 3 or above. I wish I could in this case. I know there will be people who will love this story. It will be right up their ally and that is great but sadly I am just not one of them.
I am a fun loving mom that enjoys a great Book!! I'm happy to have Audible with a busy life it makes it so easy to still get lost in a book!
Claiming Catherine is a quick listen! that would be pretty much my only complaint... I love getting lost in Books! so naturally I don't want them to end & always wish a good book could be longer!! Thankfully I already have book 2 downloaded! The NARRATORS did an awesome job!! I love reading/listening to all types of books so I was pleasantly surprised with this quick listen! I did have to make TRY TO SHOW NO EMOTION on my face while listening to it this morning at Dr Appointments & other errands :-)
****I JUST WANT TO PUT OUT THERE THAT A BOOK(UNLESS ITS A BIOGRAPHY OR SOMETHING) IS A WORK OF FICTION SO I WAS REALLY SAD TO SEE A "BAD" REVIEW FROM SOMEONE ALL DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY "LIVE IN MONTANA" AND WEREN'T IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY THE AUTHOR MADE MONTANA SOUND! THOSE KINDS OF REVIEWS BREAK MY HEART! AUTHORS WORK SO HARD ON THEIR BOOKS & FOR SOMEONE TO BE SO CRUEL LIKE THAT IS RUDE!****
