Publisher's summary

A hunky cowboy who’s sworn off women.

A Hollywood starlet searching for something real.

A road trip that tests their “just friends” deal from day one.

When professional bull rider Chase McKay lands in a compromising situation and is booted off the Pro tour until he can mend his reputation—and improve his riding, he escapes, hiding out from this meddling family and making plans to restore his image. Plans that definitely don’t include a woman.

Actress Ava Cooper is the tabloids’ favorite target after her celebrity boyfriend publicly humiliates her. She needs a place to lie low and reexamine all aspects of her life. When her former attorney offers her a rent-free cabin in nowhere Wyoming, Ava eagerly ditches LA in search of solitude.

So why in the heck is there a brawny cowboy sleeping in her bed?

At first, Chase is skeptical of the blonde bombshell invading his space, especially since she’s exactly the type of woman he’s trying to avoid. Once the mix-up is explained, it’s clear one of them will have to leave the small hideaway.

When Chase mentions he’s hitting the circuit to get back to basics, Ava convinces him she’s the perfect travel partner. But days spent in forced proximity only increases their mutual lust and they find it harder to keep their hands to themselves. After one wild night, clothes and promises are tossed aside.

While the mind-blowing passion isn’t surprising, the trust and deepening relationship is unexpected.

After the press gets wind of the affair, can this unlikely pair prove to the world, and each other, it wasn't a meaningless summer fling?

GREAT STORY

Would you listen to Chasin' Eight again? Why?

Yes but Lorelei James needs to keep using Rebecca Estrella to narrate this series. It would keep you interested

Who was your favorite character and why?

Chase. He learned that going back to basic is always the best way to learn your mistakes

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

She just didn't keep my interest. the narrator that did the other books in the series Rebecca Estrella did a great job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried when the guy died. He was so young

Any additional comments?

I hope the rest of the books in the Rough Rider series come to audible soon.. I went on amazon and downloaded the books so I can see what happens to the the McKay boys, I love the books so far. I enjoy them on audible because I listen to them while I work and it makes the day go by faster.

WORLD CLASS STORY and AWARD WINNING PERFORMANCE

As I sit here with a big fat smile plastered on my face, I know I'll never forget Chasin' Eight. Lorelei had my attention from beginning to end, 100% of the time. Love, love, LOVED Chase and Ava and while I've never been a Bull Rider or Movie Star, I found I could really relate to them both. It was as people with feelings and faults and all that goes with that. Amazing!! Lorelei developed their love story masterfully. The heat and the passion between them was scorching!! As with all of Lorelei's novel's though, this ain't your Mama's romance novel nor is it for those looking for prim and proper, strictly vanilla sex lives so consider yourself warned! *grin* Making the story even more fun, I listened to it on Audible. Vanessa Caine was FANTASTIC as the narrator! Loved her reading! She had the perfect amount of accent, enthusiasm and sizzle. She made the voices differ in just the perfect amount to totally add to the story and help create the individual characters in my mind. Absolutely loved her and will look for her again!!

Favorite story of the rough rider series

I love the story line between Chase and Ava. The friendship that develops first with an underlying sexual heat makes for a worthwhile read. Even Chase's vulnerability that he shows to Ava makes him a true hero.

At first I struggled with the narrators voice because it just wasn't what I wanted. She was very good but I had different expectations, even the cover needs to be of a shorter man to represent the story better.

Hate Narrator

I liked the story but the narrator is not a good fit for this book. Read the book instead.

Really Great Until the Preaching Started....

What did you love best about Chasin' Eight?

It was a nice love story

What other book might you compare Chasin' Eight to and why?

None that I've read thus far

What does Vanessa Caine bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She did a good job giving each character their own voice

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Danger is the biggest part of the thrill for the rider and the spectators.

It annoyed me when the 'preaching' about safety in bull riding started; the pressure to wear vests and helmets...why don't we just bubble wrap the bull riders so there is no chance anyone gets hurt.

Any additional comments?

Great book-would love to listen to the rest of the series Audible!

Warning: Some sex & strong language

Hoping for entire series

Some of the books in the Rough Riders series have been a lot more sexually graphic than this book. Chasin' Eight focused more on the story and the characters (although they definitely had some really hot sex going on, too). So for this reason, I would say that Chasin' Eight was a bit more balanced than some of the other books in this series. I didn't feel like I was being constantly bombarded with one sex scene after another.

I liked how Chase and Ava grew as people throughout their relationship. Their internal conflicts didn't feel manipulative or overly angst-ridden. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was a "believable" romance, but it definitely was not a Cinderella story like so many contemporary romances are. They were both at a crisis point in their respective lives, and their relationship was basically the catalyst that got them both to move on to better things.

I also liked the introduction of an unexpected relative in Chase's life towards the of the story. It felt very real to me, and I hope to find out what happens with that relationship if Audible ever gets the rest of the series on board.

So all in all, I liked the story. It wasn't as over the top as some of the other ones were; wasn't so all about sex; actually felt like real people dealing with real issues.

As for Vanessa Caine's narration, the first hour or two was very, very bad. Somewhere along the way, though, her voice mellowed out, and she did a much better job. Sometimes I don't know if it's the recording/engineering/sound people who screw up the audio, or if the narrator is really just that bad, but Vanessa Caine started out bad and ended up halfway decent.

Prior narrator, Rebecca Estrella, is just too flat and boring. Plus she mispronounces words all the time, which drives me crazy. For example, she pronounces "pinged" (think "ping pong") as "pinjed" (think "hinged"). I had to stop and rewind the first time she said that, trying to figure out what the heck that was all about. Thereafter, I understood what she meant when she said "pinjed".

Of course, the best narrator for Lorelei James's books is Scarlett Chase, but she seems to be only on the Blacktop Cowboys series so far. Wish she could have narrated this series as well.

Anyway, I liked Chase and Ava's story. The price of it was just about even with the cost of a credit, so I just put it on my credit card rather than use a credit. However, if you're not in a big hurry to go from Book 7 to Book 11 (since #8 through #10 are not available at this time), then wait for a sale or drop some big hints to friends and family that you'd like Chasin' Eight as a gift! :)

Hot...Hot...Hot!!!! Go Rough Riders!!!!

What made the experience of listening to Chasin' Eight the most enjoyable?

The story was hot and steamy, but it did touch on some very important subject matter. I appreciate learning a few new facts within my fiction.

What other book might you compare Chasin' Eight to and why?

It fits into the series, but I don't really don't compare it to any other book. I just like learning more about the characters.

Have you listened to any of Vanessa Caine’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first, and she did pretty good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but life does not permit such enjoyment sometimes,

Any additional comments?

I had read most of the books in the series, but I had never gotten to this one, so it was a treat. I hope Audible will release all the books in the series. I'd like to hear them all.

Been waiting for this series. McKay's -yum

Love the Rough Rider series, however where are the first 10 books?!! Wyoming cowboys, the McKays and Wests, all have special stories to tell and are must reads. A better narrator would be nice, but I'll buy and listen to the series no matter who narrates. I check Lorelie every day hoping for more Rough Rider books.......
