Publisher's summary

Seven corpses are discovered in the streets of a Dragon’s fief - all identical, down to their clothing.

Kaylin Neya is assigned to discover who they were, who killed them - and why. Is the evil lurking at the borders of Elantra preparing to cross over?

At least the investigation delays her meeting with the Dragon Emperor. And as the shadows grow longer over the fiefs, Kaylin must use every skill she’s ever learned to save the people she’s sworn to protect. Sword in hand, dragons in the sky, this time there’s no retreat and no surrender….

No romance... just a story

It's just a story. I wish ppl would respect the lead character more. maybe she will get a better backbone in other books.

Where is the REST of the story...?

Please....when is the next book coming? I started out with the free novella, and haven't stopped since until now...These books are wonderfully written, and the narration is some of the best I've listened to, ever!
When you find a series this good, it is torture not knowing when the next book will be out. At least give us a tentative date...there are soooo many possible story lines that can spin off the last book alone, that I hope to see at least 3 or 4 dozen more stories. I can't wait to find out about the 'baby egg', the male lion cub living now at the foundling house, Tera and her wonderful personality...considering she is a 'tower' and not a real person... I love the drama between Lord Nightshade, Sevren and Kaylin Naya...
There has to be the 8th book almost ready to come out...right?

I can't wait for the next one

Where does Cast in Ruin rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very high. I really can't say how much I've enjoyed listening to these incredible books. I was disappointed to reach the end of the last one and now I'm impatient for the next one.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the characters, the humor, the very interesting world the author has created. She's got some great plots. The narrator is fantastic. Overall, I love these books. I hope she writes 20 more. I'll be terribly disappointed when she stops writing these books. There's so much to them. They aren't just light fluff, there's a lot of plot and history.

What about Khristine Hvam’s performance did you like?

I have no idea what she looks like or is like, but she seems just right for the character so that I end up picturing her as I picture the character. She really brings the book alive and the characters alive. The humor and the details that the author meant to convey really come through. There's never a time when the narrator gets in the way or I'm tired of her voice. She's really great.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Finding a place, doing our part.

Can't wait for the next one

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It is such a great story mixed in with fabulous insights into daily life and how things really are, not just in the land of the dragons, but in our own lives.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All the main characters have been brought to life (I have read all in the series so far), the 3 main dragons, Lords Sanabellus, Teamaris and the Archon, Kalen of course, her sergeant the lion, heartwarming, great story.

What about Khristine Hvam’s performance did you like?

She has such a command of each character's voice, she makes it so easy to merge into the scenes and become part of the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but, at 17 hours, that is not possible. I listen to it while exercising indoors on my trainer and on long car rides. It makes the trips and the exercise something to look forward to doing.

Any additional comments?

Waiting for the next book.

A great book, but...

If you’ve listened to books by Michelle Sagara before, how does this one compare?

This is up there with her best; if you can get past all the profanity. Where did that come from? none of her other books that I've read/listened to have any profanity. Just hard to recommend this one.

A good listen

I got the first book in the series when it was on the free list. It was worth listening to. It got me hooked. The world Michelle Sagara created for the story is great. I felt transported. I do wish that it would have had a little more romance. It's a fast moving action packed sci-fi. It could pass for a teen series.

Disappointing

Seven books in and still no new character development or maturity. I love the overarching plot of the books and that's what has kept me reading and hoping, but I HATE all of the characters, especially Kaylin, and I have reached my limit.

She doesnt live up to her responsibility as Chosen, complains about her life without making any attempts to improve it, and continuously makes illogical decisions because she refuses to learn. All of these are under her control but she just wants to stick her head in the sand. There is a constant "telling" how bright she is without "showing" it, which just leaves me "too damn" annoyed.

Good, but should have been great

What did you like best about Cast in Ruin? What did you like least?

The premise is amazing. I absolutely love the idea behind this book, but I don't feel like it was executed as well as it could have been. There was a lot of Kaylin standing around at the climax of the book. No one wants to read about their hero being frozen at the highlight of the novel.

If you’ve listened to books by Michelle Sagara before, how does this one compare?

I like all of her Elantra books. I thought Cast in Silence started off slowly, then got interesting. I thought Cast in Ruin started off interesting then got irritating.

What does Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I sometimes have trouble reading the books. I got stuck on Cast in Silence and to this day have not finished reading the e-book. For some reason, it is easier for me to listen the gargantuan amount of description rather than reading it.Kristine's reading definitely brings the books to another level for me. I really do like the voice that she does for Severn

Do you think Cast in Ruin needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Absolutely and it already has one. The egg is up next and then things really start to get interesting.

Any additional comments?

I would have given this book 4 or even 5 stars if it hadn't dragged at the end. I had a hard time listening to the end of this book, so I was left with a slightly bad taste in my mouth.
