Critic reviews

"Scottish romance at its finest, with characters to cheer for, a lush love story, and rousing adventure. I was captivated from the very first page. When it comes to exciting Highlander romance, Julianne MacLean delivers." (Laura Lee Guhrke, author of the Abandoned at the Altar series)

Great narrator and story

Narrator:

I often base my audible choices on listener comments.

I'm happy I decided to IGNORE the one person who said they disliked the narrator. (See Claimed by the Highlander: Highlander Series #2 reviews, same narrator)

I've heard bad narrators, and Antony Ferguson IS NOT a bad narrator! I suggest that people should make their own decision based on the excerpt that can heard in the book sample, and not base their decision on what one person wrote in a review. (This suggestion is for me as well as everyone else) And I'd like to see that reviewer, from Texas, who probably has a Southern drawl, try to narrate a whole novel with different accents from Scotland and England!

Story:
Well thought-out story. Really had a hard time putting down my earphones with this one. I didn't give it five stars because, for me, the story has to be exceptional to receive that mark. That said, it was totally worth my credit! And hot!

Disappointing

This book wasn???t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The female character was pathetic with unrealistic expectations and demands for her love to be only a gentleman and disregard the warrior side of his persona. It was a bit of an irritating read with weak character development and an unbelievable attraction between the characters. This book is for anyone that wants to read about a man who will change for a woman he met one week prior, rather than being a strong character that is honorable and the smart sassy female recognizes his worth and loves him.

Has Captured by the Highlander turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but I won't be purchasing another book by this author.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narration was good.

What character would you cut from Captured by the Highlander?

The Heroine, and replace her with a stronger and smarter character that will not only give her love when her conditions are met. The hero also needs to be reworked.

Any additional comments?

If you enjoyed books by Elizabeth Lowell, Monica McCarty, Julie Garwood, or Judith McNaught then you probably won't like this book. As I enjoyed many books by those authors and their characters.

Loved it

Where does Captured by the Highlander rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

I was sceptical at first but the author takes you on a journey and you find yourself wanting to come along. No vapid and timid female characters here, she gives real depth and feeling to every character and causes you to love or hate them. This is the first book in this series and I enjoyed it so much that I bought the next book to read.

Which character ??? as performed by Antony Ferguson ??? was your favorite?

At first I thought, (groan) male narrator, but I loved it. His rich voice was wonderful to listen to. His Scottish accent needs work but he gives his characters thief own persona and draws you into the plot. I would like to hear him read more romance books.

GO ON... USE THAT CREDIT... =]

My first Julianne MacLean listen. Not my first Antony Ferguson, of course. I loved the narrator. I think Antony does better than most with the female parts.
The story I loved. It was meaty and involved. Better than the majority of romance stories. After awhile some tend to go down the same path. I loved that there was so much texture to this one. Amelia makes Duncan re-think what he feels he's always known. He isn't at all the way he always believed. I know that was a big circle but I hate to be a spoiler.
I enjoyed this as much as I have any. I do hope the series continues to be as riveting as this one.
Go on... use that credit!!

Enjoyable

I will be looking for more books by this author. Her work is different. The book has many unexpected twist and turns. The love scenes are pertty exciting. The heroine is intelligent and brave. I fell in love with her Highlander. Definetely an epitomy of a man. I would have preferred a different narrator, but he did an OK work. I would recommend this book to aby person that enjoys Highlander's Romance.

Great Story and Narrator

I was unsure, in the beginning, if I was going to like Antony Ferguson as a narrator, but he gave a great performance.

The story was well written--with strong, likeable characters.

After listening to "Captured by the Highlander" I will look for more Julianne MacLean books.

4.5 stars! Great Story, though a little angsty

This series is as good if not better than Monica McCarty's trilogies.
Full of romance, adventure, peril and suspense, I really was impressed with MacLean's writing.
I only wish there had been more scenes to enjoy the couple in love.

Perfect narration by Antony Ferguson!

Sweet Tension

Would you consider the audio edition of Captured by the Highlander to be better than the print version?

Yes, the narration helped to bring me into the story with the Highland and High English accents and affectations. The narrator was very good at separating characters and using inflection.

What other book might you compare Captured by the Highlander to and why?

It has a slight similarity to the Masters of Time series by Brenda Joyce given the setting and big virulent warriors. However it is markedly better. It is much better written than Joyce's books; it has more depth, more thought, greater character development, better plot. I'll be buying more of MacLean's books for certain.

What three words best describe Antony Ferguson???s voice?

Warm, clear, versatile

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"Kidnapping Love"

Any additional comments?

The plot was very satisfying as it drew out the seduction of both of the main characters, one for the other - therefore my title Sweet Tension. I loved this book and the narration lent an extra layer of intimacy to the lovely story.
