Publisher's summary

Bred by capricious parents for his innate leopard-shifting abilities, billionaire Jake Bannaconni has spent his life in an emotional vacuum - especially after a tragic twist of fate left him to raise his infant son alone. But when his path crosses that of an enigmatic young woman, Jake’s life takes a detour he never fathomed.

There is something irresistible about Emma Reynolds - something Jake can’t live without. Hiring her as his son’s nanny will keep her close. And warm. And under watch. She’s the first human to stir something in Jake, something he’s never felt before. But Emma may not be all that she seems. And what’s raging between them is pure animal instinct - out of control, burning wild, and as hot as the lick of a flame.

Burning Wild was very disturbing

This book was very different from the first two and I found it disturbing. The sex was just as raw which I have no problem with but the domineering, manipulative, controlling attitude of Jake towards Emma and the subservient, submissive, surrendering attitude of Emma's was a classic abuser/abused relationship. It was hard to listen to. The first 1/2 hour of the book describes the abuse Jake suffered during his childhood which was well written and therefore also hard to listen to.

This story took place on a Texas ranch, not the lush, sensual, moody rain forest of the first two books. The leopard theme was not as integral a part of the story either.

The narrator did a pretty good job but I would say that the way he performed this made it feel rawer.

It's not a book I will listen to again as I might the others, but I don't know that I can say that I don't recommend it either. I was glad when it was over but I didn't consider not finishing it.

Surprising

Another good read by Ms. Feehan. It was terribly disturbing to see how sick, twisted, cruel and obsessed a persons family can be. But to be raised in that type of environment and come out sane is truly a miracle. Thankfully Jake, one of the main characters had one family member who over time proved he was unlike the others and pointed Jake in the right direction. The saying is true you can't pick your family but you can pick your friends; the truth of this is shown clearly in this story. The love that unfolds and develops here is not what you will be expecting this is more of a take over.

Not Phil Gigante

I love this book and was looking forward to the audio, then I saw Phil Gigante was the narrator, but it's not, it's Jeffrey Cummings. Little disappointed it's not Gigante but hoping I like this narrator anyway.

Non problem with narrater but with author

ENOUGH ms Feehan produces books that follow a set formula eg high handed dominating self centered male meets and wants to own female. Female fights and shows some brains but for some reason around 1/2 way or earlier they start to think the low life that wants to rule them is the best thing since sliced bread . .DUH . . . Sex in the normal theme even rape refer to Dark Secret were she even tells him so but the the low life thinks more of the same will make her see he is not the low life he is. The males don't care what the females want only their needs. Enter the bad guy(s) (some times they are already there) in any case around 2/3 of the way into the book the bad guy(s) do something that makes low life think he has lost or no longer wants the woman so in spite of putting her into this position he just either moves away or sometimes thinks of rescue.
At the end all is forgiven the lowlife sees he is in love (& sex is the only way he can show this . .get a life) & or the female suddenly forgets she has a brain and how much of a low life self centered, brainless moron he is and suddenly falls in love with him . . . This book is like all her others . . . If you like the female who is dominated and controlled by a lowlife male & finds herself being near death because he thinks only with whats between his legs but in the end the female has a lobotomy story line and falls for him anyway you will love this . . . Me i could not finish it . . Child abuse & acceptance should not be part of a decent novel . . . child abuse seems to be a recurring theme in a lot of the various series . . . sad . . . Relationships DONT rely one control but trust something ms Feehans male character's lack in spades. Sex does not = love. Fiction is well and good but it needs to have some roots in reality even if that is in relation ships and inter action.
BUT I GUESS IF YOU HAVE A FORMULA THAT SELLS . . . SPEW IT OUT & SELL IT

love the story

Would you try another book from Christine Feehan and/or Jeffrey Cummings?

I love Christine Feehan's stories but I will not try another book narrated by Jeffrey Cummings. I have read Burning wild several times but I could not listen to the whole audiobook.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

the voices that he gave to the characters were not enjoyable. The female character, Emma, was too breathy and weak and the male character, Jake, sounded a lot like Christian Bale doing Batman and too gravely.

Do you think Burning Wild needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The leopard series is enough the way it is.

Any additional comments?

I would love to try this audiobook with a different narrator.

Wrong narrator/ great book and author

Phil Gigante is NOT the narrator for this book. Love the book, not the narrator. He does not do justice to the characters.
