Even good girls make mistakes.
Kira Taylor was shocked to meet her boss's handsome, long-absent son and find him even more lethal in the flesh. He'd always been just a face in a photo - and nothing had prepared her for the way they clashed and burned when they finally met.
Blake Carter returned to America for a reunion with a father he hadn't seen since he was ten. But Blake had never bargained for falling for his father's sexy secretary, the beautiful and impressionable Kira Taylor…
Blake caught one glimpse of the gorgeous beauty from across the crowded room and felt the primal taste of desire like he'd never known. The sparks were more antagonism than attraction on her part as they collided over differences about the way he treated his father. But Blake had very strong persuasive skills when it came to bringing the vulnerable Kira to bend to his carnal passions…

I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
I really like Dez Burke books, because they are short and packed full of romance and great smex. This one is like double the length of her usual work and I think that is where this book went wrong. For the first 3 hrs I was really enjoying the story..but then the story just seem to drag on... Smex wasn't even that good.
Its a good sale. I'd save a credit for something more satisfying.
Narration was AWESOME. Laramie is 100% the best narrator for Burke's books... but the book this time was just too long...!!
The story. Kira mainly, her character was the weakest person I've ever heard of.
Give Kira a backbone or something to make her a bit more believable. She storms after Blake to admonish him and she can't even carry that job out correctly. She tries to slap him, he stops her, she cries. Seriously. She gets beaten and she blames Blake and even justifies why it was done. Seriously.
My two biggest issue are Kira and the use of certain words with certain characters. I realize that in moments of complete abandonment people lose all senses and take on a persona uncharacteristic of who they really are. But, seriously. If Blake is as refined as he is, then I'm sure he can express his lust without the vulgar, dirty (and not in a good way) language. I would imagine that someone as well-manicured as Blake would be articulate enough to express his sexual desires and frustrations with Kira.
Kira, well she should have been better developed.
I have listened to Gents 4 Ladies on audible.com and it had more sex scenes than this book. And Gents 4 Ladies is shorter. Please don't make another character like Kierra. I mean really. You have a young lady in her 20s who is pregnant and you have a rich man marry her, and she waits for four months to have sex with him again. Not believable. I grew up poor, and on food stamps. I don't know anyone in our community that will not jump and chance to marry their "baby daddy", and he was rich. I think more time should have been spent on more of the sex when they finally had sex again.
I read Burned By Passion a few months ago and really enjoyed it! Blake and Kira's sex scenes were very steamy and their love was tender and beautiful. I enjoy reading about those push and pull love stories with a little angst... and Burned By Passion definitely delivers. What Kira needed, Blake provided with everything he had--- all his heart and soul. Very sweet story. I also liked Blake's father Bretton and his love for and support of Kira. I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn't wait to listen to the audible edition. I was blown away by Pepper's read!
Pepper Laramie does an amazing job bringing ALL the characters in this passionate romance to life. Pepper's delivery of Blake's lines is flawless! She captures his British accent extremely well. She injects a wonderfully distinct energy into each character's dialogue; She almost makes it seem like a different person is reading each part! Wonderful job, Pepper! Dez Burke's words + Pepper Laramie's voice = Literary Gold!
I can hardly wait to hear Pepper read Skin Deep-- my favorite Dez Burke romance. THAT will be literary platinum!!
I enjoyed the storyline. I was irritated with the female character as she seemed weak. But as the story develops it becomes clear she is trying to protect herself. All in all, I loved it.
Loved the story Keira and Blake are the dream couple!!! Would love to hear a lot more about them!!! Awesome!
