Publisher's summary

Layton Morris and his brother Mike grew up not knowing what it would be like to live in a normal home. With no running water or electricity in their home and no parents around to protect them, they quickly learned how to survive and depend only on each other.

When a tragic accident took Mike away from Layton and the only other person that he ever let into his heart walked away from him, leaving his heart shattered, Layton focused all of his time and energy into the ranch he and his brother dreamed of. He made a vow to himself to never let love in again. The last thing Layton needed or wanted was more heartache.

Whitley Reynolds grew up in a privileged home in upstate New York. When she landed the star football player in high school no one was surprised, not even Whitley. She dreamed of a life with Roger in New York City and happily followed him there.

The first time Roger hit her for arguing with him about a dinner party, she forgave him. The more it happened, the further Whitley withdrew from her friends and family. One fateful day things got too far. Whitley made a promise to herself and found the courage to do the one thing she thought she'd never be able to do.

Fleeing with her best friend, Courtney, Whitley was determined to put her past behind her and start a new life in the small town of Llano, Texas, where no one would ever find out about her past.

Will Layton and Whitley learn to trust and love again, or will their pasts come back to haunt them, keeping them both alone and broken?

Overall a good conceptive story, hence 3 stars. This the first story I have had the pleasure of hearing. The characters are in their early twenties but have the language and manners of just out of high school or early college years. The amount of swaring and promiscuous behavior is certainly reflective of the very immature. I was surprised at the way Whitney spoke to Roger given their relationship that and her feelings toward Roger when he flirted with someone else. It just didn't ring real.

The ending with Courtney leaves the reader hanging to be learned in the next story.

The readers were excellent.

Great Love Story! I couldn't put down!

What did you love best about Broken?

I loved the romance that Whitley and Layton had between each other. Once they got together the enduring love Layton had and showed for Whitley was so precious. I am glad I used my monthly credit for this book. I had been holding off because of the price but it was well worth the wait and credit.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Broken?

The most memorable moment was the first shower scene when Layton was so loving and caressing to Whitley. He took his time and showed her how much he really cared and loved her body.

Which scene was your favorite?

The best scene was when Whitley showed Olivia up and surprised her when she really knew how to ride a horse and Olivia didn't think she could and was trying to make her look bad in front of Layton. I could not stand Olivia I was hoping something would've happened to Olivia in the story to her.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

City Girl meets County Honky-Tonk

Any additional comments?

It has been a long time since I have read such a great love story as this was. The love between Layton and Whitley was so strong you could feel it throughout the whole story. I cannot wait to get another book written by Kelly Elliott. I would highly recommend this book if you love to read rooms to love stories. I hope the second book of this series comes out soon.

The MCs are a wee bit unbelievable!

2.5 Stars overall

Instalove = Yes
Cheese Factor = High
Eye Rolls = Constant

The constant winking drove me insane. I started to think they had nervous ticks they 'winked' so much.

All the crying in the book was beyond belief... and that was just the guys!

The book starts out with the h at the end of an abusive relationship that puts her in the hospital. Our h does not tell anyone what happened nor will she press charges. Setup for the end?

The men in the story are completely unbelievable. I cannot imagine that women find their flowery talk appealing. I will try the second book and hope that it is more realistic!

SOOOOOOO LAME!!!!!!!!!!!

Ughhhhhhhh. This book is pathetic. No character development, dumb conversations, characters that are not engaging in any way. Female lead swears off men, and then declares undying love to lead male in a day. So stupid.

Too much cursing and winking!

What disappointed you about Broken?

That the author could not pull out a thesaurus to assist her with avoiding the f bombs that are rampant thru this book made this a cringeworthy experience. My intelligence was insulted and hers as well. Every character winked at each other constantly, again a thesaurus is a helpful tool.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Back to a book with depth and expanded language skills.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The Texas accent was too overdone.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Broken?

How much the main characters told one another they loved each other over and over and over and over.......in the same scene.

Any additional comments?

No just disappointed.
