Robbed of her youthful ideals and at the center of scandal and tragedy, Jade ran as far and as fast as she could. But she never forgot the sleepy "company town" where every man, woman, and child was dependent on one wealthy family. And she never forgot their spoiled son, who with his two friends changed her life forever.
Someday, somehow, she'd return...exacting a just revenge, freeing herself from her enemies' grasp, and, perhaps, fulfilling a lost promise of love.

"Fast-paced drama." (Publishers Weekly)
Sandra Brown is an experienced author with proven ability in pacing and story building. This work is sometimes slow, sometimes quick, always empathetic, and indomitable in its rise to its conclusion. Although its subject matter is not pretty, she makes no apologies and declines to take captive either her characters or her readers. Breath of Scandal is worthy of her craft. It's a well-written story to which I would have assigned a rating of four stars and no review without a second thought except for the exceptional quality and sensitivity of Dick Hill's narration. His talent for character interpretation, for acting each character's words and actions with care, believability, and consistancy, and his ability to understand and express the building emotion and drama of this story through only the instrument of voice deserves acknowlegment. Mr. Hill's narration was outstanding. For me, he single-handedly raised my rating of a solid Sandra Brown novel from a four to a five and prompted this review -- my first, by the way. Thank you, Mr. Hill. Narrators of your caliber are very, very hard to find. I sincerely hope this review finds its way to you and that others share my appreciation of your talent.
Say something about yourself!
I am about half way through this audio book. Can't wait to get back in my car and hate to get out of it. Dick Hill is one of my all time favorite narrators and I think he brings this story to life, including the voices of the females. You won't be dissapointed if you download this.
Dick Hill's female voices make them all sound like breathless morons. If you can stand that, the rest of it is a worth a credit.
Good story, interesting characters & plot. Liked the way she got her revenge at the end. Typical Sandar Brown novel. I wish the female lead(s) were narrated by a female. It becomes annoying to hear a male narration as squeaky, high pitched, breathless and over compensated throughout the entire story.
The SCANDAL is that this title ends up in the topseller list. I understand the rush (for I did it too) to buy a newcomer, though the author is not.
Plot started out well, though quickly turned predictable. I'd even spoken aloud the words I thought would come next, and was correct. Another made for TV novel.
The parts of the story that are based in racially abhorrent times, are well understood. Deplorable, yes. This avenue though was overly emphasized.
The narrator's voice for females reminds me of Dustin Hoffman in the movie "Tootsie". Couldn't help thinking of that in the back of my mind.
Still wish there were a rating system with half stars, for I'd consider 3 1/2 here. Just not quite a 4.
The story is good but the narrator's female voice made the heroin sound simpering with no backbone. Listening became downright annoying at time. Dick Hill definitely needs to work on his female voices.
Don't you just love a great story well told?
If you can handle concept of the brutality the plot revolves around this book deals this is a well written book with a very strong central female character. The small town corrupt justice system of one company city is also very realistic. So while it's rough to watch this young lady go through all she goes through the writing is excellent, the ending excellent and it isn't your typical Sandra Brown "Who-Done-It?"
I thoroughly enjoyed this selection. I found the story to be thoroughly engrossing. I noted before purchasing that some reviewers did not like the male narration but I found the narration by Dick Hill to be outstanding.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
I almost gave up in the first half of this book because it was just one tragic event after another. I persevered and throughly enjoyed the second half of the book. Dick Hill did an excellent job with the narration. On the whole the book is worth listening to.
Like the way she got her revenge but wished for a female narrator to do the women's voices.
