Denver journalist Natalie Benoit and Deputy U.S. Marshal Zach McBride find themselves captives of a bloodthirsty Mexican drug cartel. Working together, they escape through the desert toward the border, the attraction between them flaring hotter than the Sonoran sun. They fight to stay ahead of the danger that hunts them as forces more powerful than they can imagine conspire to destroy them both....

"Complex characterizations and a fast-paced plot filled with sensual romance and mystery make this a highly enjoyable... for newcomers and series fans alike." (Publishers Weekly)
Make no mistake between my personality and my attitude. My personality is who I am, my attitude depends on who you are.........
Many times when there is a series that you fall in love with at the first book, you don't expect them to keep the momentum. As listening to them (FABULOUS NARRATOR), I considered Book 3 as being my favorite!!!!! UNTIL THIS ONE!!! Holy Baby Jesus Miss Clare.......bravo on this book! I was gripped from the beginning and sleep deprived until the end!
I felt all the emotions which was from the clever writing and the delivery of the narrator. Passion, anxiety, heartache, fear and love; I cried and laughed!!
Can I just say May 2013 is TOOOOOOOOOO long for the next!!
I read this book a while ago, and decided to give the audio a try. Since then, I've listened to two other I-Team books. This one so far is my favorite, in that it is a bit different from the other two, but not by much. They are very formulaic, and only the character's names seem to change. The heroine's life is threatened because of a story she's following, she goes off into hiding/protective custody with hero to protect her, they repeatedly have sex during this time without any commitment (only physical attraction), heroine's life is in mortal danger from the bad guy, hero comes to save the day. Hero has major commitment issues for various reasons, and doesn't admit his love for the heroine until the end, keeps pushing her away even after she tells him she loves him, yet she continues to have sex with him. Oh, and there's always the "am I pregnant?" question hanging in the air.
Lots of strong language, and many graphic sex scenes. A huge turn-off for me is when the F word is used between a couple when they are supposed to have feelings for each other. It just sort of demeans the act. Call me old-fashioned (but not old)
What I like about Ms Clare's books is that she obviously puts in a lot of time researching her subject material, and that makes the stories interesting to me. What I don't like so much is that there is way too much character introspection, which overlaps with the narration. The books could be a lot shorter without all the repetition.
Kaleo Griffith did an excellent job bringing these characters to life, giving each a distinct voice.
Audible addicted love mystery, lately stuck on love story. Mother of 1 Labrador and 1 perfect man. Work way too hard, and so ready to be retired
Well worth any cost started off hopeless but soon became a race for survival lady hero are always great story with strong sexy men. I listen to the whole book at once could not wait.pamela the writer did a awesome job and Lordy Lordy Kaleo is my new best male narrator I've begun to listen to the series again in order.5 stars
Captivating story with credible backdrop of journalist and U.S. law enforcement investigating Mexican drug cartels, human trafficking, etc. Reintroduces characters from prior books in the series, but could be read as stand-alone. Narrator great with male voices but not so with female voices. Romance is tender; sex is hot; friendships touching; violence a bit graphic at times. Recommend you read the whole series, but if you decide to read just one--pick this one.
I love the whole series. I too can't wait for the next book.
I have listen to all the books and they all are just wonderful. Each story is great so I don't have a favorite. In one year I will listen to them all again.
Laugh yes, Cry some what
I want to tell everyone about this writer she almost as good as Nora Roberts. One more thing, Please don't let anyone else Narrate these book but Kaleo Griffieth, he as good as the writer. I love these books. want more!!!
Good Books Don't Promote Violence
I thought the first 2 hours of this audio book contained more graphic violence than necessary to advance the plot. Sometimes less is more....
More distasteful than explicit violence was the subtle glorification of male domination. I did not believe that Natalie, after being kidnapped and sexually assaulted in Mexico by members of a drug cartel, would instantly jump into a sexual relationship with Zach, a stranger she thought was a criminal.
Although Zach, actually a U.S. Marshall, helped Natalie survive in a dangerous situation, his only regret was not having enough time "to teach her about gentle domination". Really, he thought a victim of recent extreme violence would enjoy being dominated, humiliated, and degraded? I call bullshit!
Zach, a decorated Navy Seal scarred by combat, was portrayed as a brave public servant risking his life to protect his country. So it's okay that he wanted to dominate and control Natalie instead of treating her with respect. The author tried to write Zach as a strong romantic hero, yet his need for sexual control was not acceptable behavior.
It's disturbing when female writers try to romanticize such unhealthy & unequal relationships. What happened to romantic novels about secure, mature men who aren't intimidated by smart, strong and independent women?
This review is really for the whole series, as I loved all of them. Pamela Clare did a wonderful job developing the characters...both the men and the women. I think what I enjoyed most is that the the series moved through the different members of the I-team while keeping the characters I already fell in love with part of the story. And Kaleo Griffith is now, by far, my favorite narrator for this genre. I love how he used such distinct, but subtle, voices for everyone, so I always knew who was talking. I was so disappointed when I discovered I had listened to them all. Since then, I have been searching, with no success, to find another series with such great writing, strong & lovable characters, intriguing plots, and steamy sex!
SO FREAKING AWESOME!
Of all the heroes in the I Teams books, Zack takes first prize. Loved him from the beginning. Holly has also become my favorite by far. I WANT MORE! Pamela Claire needs to write them a little faster, I am going to download book 5.5 now and wait anxiously for the next book.
The ending, she gets me everytime, but this ending was powerful. I literally sat on the floor and wept. Zack and Holly are both scarred on the inside, in the end the peace Zack's acceptance was so emotional and Holly's was so dear, even though it didn't come close to Zack's.
Kaleo Griffith is a new favorite narrator. He narrates in such a way that you can tell when the characters are thinking as well as talking, and his voices are nicely done. This story was fast paced and had a lot of action (both kinds...).
I enjoyed this story right up until the end - tiny spoiler here, but not for the plot - where the female character seemed to go from being an independent, driven, curious journalist to a stay-at-home mom in the blink of an eye. This struck me as odd and out of character, and even more odd because all her female friends at the paper still seem to work there even after starting families.
