Rowan Greenwood has everything she's supposed to want from life - a good family, a bright future, and a proposal from a handsome and wealthy magic hunter. She knows she should be content with what she has. If only she could banish the idea that there's more to life than marriage and children, or let go of the fascination with magic that she's been forced to suppress since childhood. When Rowan unknowingly saves the life of one of her people's most feared enemies, that simple act of compassion rips her from her sheltered life and throws her into a world of magic that's more beautiful, more seductive, and more dangerous than she ever could have imagined. Rowan might get everything she ever dreamed of - that is, if the one thing she's always wanted doesn't kill her first.

Great story, but the female's voice, is like listening to Violet from the incredibles, which while does a lot to establish character for me was distracting. But overall I loved it, and it's all personal preference!
This could very well be the greatest story ever told, I was certainly impressed with what I heard. However I couldn't stand more than 5 minutes of the most boring voice in the world. I was driving at the time and was afraid that his voice would put me to sleep. Not that death wouldn't have been a relief from the monotone drawl, I just didn't want his voice to be the last thing I heard.
Both narrators sounded too old for the parts and the female had a bad vocal fry that was distracting. Great story, though. Looking forward to the next two books.
that was the most painful narration I've had to listen to. Justine Eyre's voice was grating. my mom thought she sounded constipated while my daughter thought she was on the brink of death. I almost wished the heroine would meet an untimely end just so she'd stop speaking. I'm going to try reading the book without audio to see if I like it better.
I truly enjoyed this story and the new supernatural world that this author has created. This type of fantasy novel is very different than what I usually choose, but I am so glad that I took a chance! The strory is about Rowen, a strong female heroine, and how she lives in a country in which magic is forbidden and hunted. She meets Aren, an evil magic user from the neighboring country, and saves his life. He becomes fascinated by her and slowly he starts to care for her, eventually they fall for each other. I really enjoyed the concept and world that the author has created and I look forward to the next book being released in audio. Narrator did a great job as always, Justine Eyre is the best narrator that audible has along with Amanda Ronconi of course! Well worth your credit!!!
This ranks in the upper division of Fantasy Favorites for me.
I really question the producer's choice of Justine Eyre. As the first lines were spoken I heard the voice of an old, tired and possibly ill woman. There are many excellent female narrators available that are quite good at youthful, healthy sounding voice interpretation. Why not choose one of those? Paul Boehmer provided a sterling performance for male and female voices. I wish he could have been the sole narrator. Every time Justine Eyre spoke I had to grit my teeth and bear with the annoyance because the story was so good.
I couldn't listen for very long because every time Justine Eyre started speaking it was so jarring. I kept thinking that she needed to gargle or maybe she was seriously dehydrated.
I look forward to the sequel, but I will buy it in print.
Great story! Loved every minute of it and can't wait for the next book in the series! Definitely recommend this one!
