Engaging and realistic!

The author shared a story that many of us can relate to. You would have had to lived in a bubble to say the concept addressed in this book never touched your life - in some way.

Bravo to the author for the courage to address what so many of us pretend does not exist. Thank you, your work is challenging and greatly needed for such a time as this!

Couldn't finish ...

I could not believe that this book was supposed to be a Christian romance. At one point I stopped the book to actually check the genre again. This book had so much potential. However, after the 5th chapter I just finally gave up. I've never seen so many hypocrites that claim to be Christians in a African American story. I understand that we all fall short, but this was just ridiculous!! The amount of unjust racism on LaShonda's part was damn near nauseating!! Her parents were racist, her friends were racist, the church members were racist, the principal at the school was racist, the hostess at the restaurant was racist. I was so disappointed. I kept thinking what year was this book supposed to be representing? The amount of negative connotation surrounding this supposed interracial relationship was ridiculous for the year 2000 and anything. Then the completely useless and unnecessary flashbacks.... SMH.. Just throw the whole book away. This was not a good story. The only characters with a bit of sense was the white man!

God’s Child vs Race

At first, I had a hard time listening or getting started with the book. But after I continue to read the book, I realize how good the book really was. The author took you down a journey of each and every person in the book from what happened to them in the past that caused them to be who they are in the present. This book represents every human being on this earth who has experienced life’s challenges every day. I would highly recommend this book to friends and family. Good job!

Well Executed

This title masterfully told the tale of worlds colliding and touched on sensitive subjects with tact and care. It was very respectful to sharing the perspective of what has been personal experience for many. The author's approach presented problem, insight, guidance and resolve. I felt like I was navigating the challenges in real time. It was relatable across age ranges. I truly enjoyed this story and all the challenges and experiences shared.

Amazing story

Such a realistic story! This story was interesting and inspiring. I want to share this with all women of faith and those who don’t know God. I’m so glad to have been introduced to Michelle Stimpson’s writing.

EEEH

I agree with the reviewer who said everyone in the book was racist, and the Stelson character was the only one who seemed to have any since. I stuck it out to see how the story ended but this is not a title I would recommend. Perhaps the author was trying to get the reader to see our own bias in the characters. But the level of racism and the manor it was portrayed in her writing was a bit ridiculous. Also she did hardly anything bring resolution that supported the ending she presented. The narrator was lousy, her voice was annoying, like a senior citizen talking on the telephone trying to sound like a teenager. Yes there were some events that took place in church but I still do not think this qualifies as Christian Fiction.

A Good Listen

This was painful to hear, I unfortunately experienced this life as a child and adult. Yes, black people can be racist, no excuses. However, if we don't learn to not allow our circumstances and situations to influence us, we will pass this mentality onto our children. I read one readers view and I took it as she didn't experience such as life, good for you. In 2021, racism is very much alive...unfortunately. I don't understand how people are quick to critique the author when she possibly wrote about her experience or someone she knew? Either way, I learned a good lesson!!!
