Publisher's Summary

I'm no coward. I want to make that perfectly clear. But after my life turned into a horror movie, I take fear a lot more seriously now. I finally became Dr. Carrie Ames just eight months ago. Then I was attacked in the hospital morgue by a vampire. Just my luck.

So now I'm a vampire, and it turns out I have a blood tie to the monster who sired me. The tie works like an invisible leash, and I'm bound to him no matter what I do. And of course he's one of the most evil vampires on earth. With my sire hell-bent on turning me into a soulless killer and his sworn enemy set to exterminate me, things couldn't get much worse...except I'm attracted to them both.

Drinking blood, living as an immortal demon, and being a pawn between two warring vampire factions isn't exactly how I'd imagined my future. But as my father used to say, the only way to conquer fear is to face it. So that's what I'll do. Fangs bared.

Don't miss the rest of the Blood Ties series, including Book Two, The Possession and Book Three, Ashes to Ashes, and Book Four, All Souls' Night.

    "poor narrator"

I had a really hard time with the narrator- she can not do the male voices and they were REALLY annoying. As to the attempt at a Scottish accent...

    "Ok, but predictable."

The story line was ok but I felt the dialog was repetitive and not particularly interesting.

There were really few surprises after listening to the first two books in this series.

I chose to not listen to any of the other series books, as I can't imagine that I would feel much different.

But I would say it is an OK read.

    "Interesting listen"

I gave this book a try during one of the sales that are offered. I finally got around to listening and while I do plan on listening to the other titles in this series I did find this book a bit long in the tooth (pardon the pun) at times. The book seems to be more at home in the romance section. I was not expecting so many references to 'love making'. All in all an interesting story which has drawn me in to try the next book in the series. I do hope there is a bit less sex in the next saga.

    "Unsure"

I can't tell if I like this book or not. The book was fine for the first chapter but the main character was a very unrealisticly questiony and did not react and was not fazed by things that should have made her act way more horrified than just chalant. She was not realistic at all. And some feelings she has for the antagonist is not only revulting but it makes you question what was the author thinking? Anyway the character Nathan was just so attractive that I couldn't stop reading and only for his sake. I do plan on reading the next book and I hope the Kari becomes for realistic. I think her character was horribly written but everyone else around her is interesting enough. anywho the ending was good and i will read on if only for nathan.

    "enjoyed"

I am new to this type of genre, started with Harris by accident and have not stopped since, gone through Harrison, Harris and Hamilton, what is with the H's?? Davidson and have a L.A. Banks waiting, have enjoyed them all.
I enjoyed this book very much I felt the characters were believable with the exception of the biggest, baddest bad guy, I felt he should of had a bit more embellishment, if for no other reason then he was the biggest fear of all. His part was a bit anti-climatic for me. However, maybe he is meant to be the lead in for the second of this series, personally I want him resolved like all baddies deserve. I do have a issue with protagonists who are a little to hard headed and come off as just plain stubborn and foolish to the point of stupid and Carrie pushed that almost too far for me. Stubborn to the point of stupid is not a good positive quality and I found her irritating at times with her inability to listen or flat out childish because no one was going to tell her what to do. I think if I had just discovered my life so drastically altered I might take some friendly well intentioned advice to heart.
However, I did enjoy overall I give it a 4 star rating just because she did irritate me at times and I do hope we see Carrie and her Scottish hero again.

    "I loved it"

This is definitely a book I wasn’t expecting from Harlequin. It doesn’t have the normal happily ever after story line. Also there are graphic accounts of injury and torture by the vampires. But, that being said this was a fantastic debut novel by Armintrout. If the series keeps up she will be held in the same company as Charlene Harris, Laurel Hamilton and Sherrilyn Kenyon. He characters are well thought out and she took the time to work through how people go about not aging and having dead people disappear and not be suspected.

"ok story, reader not that good"

The story has potential but needs a new reader. She can't do male voices or multiple characters in one story. Because of this I wont be getting any other books with this narrator.

"Will pass on the rest of the series"

The narrator was good but the main character really put me off in how she was written and the stupid things she did with poor reasoning behind it. Not one of my favorites of this genre so say the least.

    "Obnoxious narrator"

This was a great story but listening to this gal read was brutal. Not only does she sound like she has a serious sinus infection but her voices for other characters are gut wrenching to listen to. I have to recommend just "reading" this book.
