Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents the first novel in a compelling trilogy about three brothers bound by fate, blood, and a timeless enemy.

In the town of Hawkins Hollow, it’s called The Seven. Every seven years, on the seventh day of the seventh month, strange things happen. It began when three young boys - Caleb, Fox, and Gage - went on a camping trip to The Pagan Stone...

It is only February, but Caleb Hawkins - descendant of the town founders - has already seen and felt the stirrings of evil. Though he can never forget the beginning of the terror in the woods twenty-one years ago, the signs have never been this strong before. Cal will need the help of his best friends Fox and Gage, but surprisingly he must rely on a stranger as well.

Reporter Quinn Black came to Hawkins Hollow hoping to make its eerie happenings the subject of her new book. She too can see the evil the locals cannot, somehow connecting her to the town - and to Cal. As winter turns to spring, they will shed their inhibitions, surrendering to a desire that will grow and form the cornerstone of a group of men and women bound by the fight against what is to come from out of the darkness…

OMG. I hope the second narrator is better.

Would you listen to Blood Brothers again? Why?

I usually listen to Nora's triologies over and over. There is not going to be any way I can listen to this one again. The voices are horrific. The main characters, the boys at first, sound unlike any actual boys, but I could bypass that, since it's a small part of the book. The men sound stupid, especially Gage. The women sound like gay men in a sitcom. I swear to God, they do. I can barely listen to the "romance" talk between the characters. So bad.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The most realistic sounding character is Cal's granny. And still. Ugh.

What didn’t you like about Phil Gigante’s performance?

His main narration sounds like he's selling something. His characters are awful.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Hard to have that.

Any additional comments?

I am usually not that fussy about narration, but this guy needs to stick to non-fiction or self help. Maybe technology books.

Good 1st book

While I love all things Nora Roberts, the female voices on this one really grates. The only thing keeping me going were characters story and development.
I really hope they change the narrator on the next 2 books.

Story

Good story line good progression. Enjoyed the character developments and that it’s not your typical good vs bad thanks to the blood lines. Looking forward to finishing the series but good intro

You can tell she raised boys

This book has the hallmarks of what I love in a Nora Roberts book. You can tell she raised boys, because there is just such vibrant detail and affection in the way she depicts three boys riding off to celebrate their birthday. I love to think that the lifelong bonds written about here are possible in the real world. Good friendships and some suspend your disbelief talents make for a great story in this series. You'll want to read them all!

Great Book But

This book would have been excellent if the sex scenes weren’t so boring. The plot, narration, and layout (except the sex scenes of course) were every convincing; but exactly what I expected from Nora Roberts. Her intimate moments are almost always PG.

 I love Nora’s books

I had a hard time with the narrator. I didn’t understand the reason for Cal to have a southern accent. And he missed the mark on the female characters, voices in my opinion.

Really good read

It's been many years since I read any Nora Roberts novels. Blood Brothers was a good choice to revisit this author. Horror, romance and comedy, there is a lot to keep you interested. The characters are intelligent and wholly believable. I will definitely be continuing with the series.

Great story

Would you listen to Blood Brothers again? Why?

Not a fan of the narrator. Don't like his "voices" at all. Nora Roberts is wonderful and I love the story. I'll just read it next time around. Can't get past his reading. Fox sounds like a dork, Layla sounds like a NY Jewish girl, Gage sounds like Egor from Winnie the Pooh. Had a hard time listening.

What other book might you compare Blood Brothers to and why?

I'll get the other 2 in the series as well since they're different people reading.

How could the performance have been better?

Different narrator

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes always
