Publisher's summary

Merit has been a vampire for only a short while, but she's already seen a lifetime's worth of trouble. She and her Master, centuries-old Ethan Sullivan, have risked their lives time and again to save the city they love. But not all of Chicago is loving them back. Anti-vampire riots are erupting all over town, striking vampires where it hurts the most.

A splinter group armed with Molotov cocktails and deep-seated hate is intent on clearing the fanged from the Windy City come hell or high water. Merit and her allies rush to figure out who's behind the attacks, who will be targeted next, and whether there's any way to stop the wanton destruction. The battle for Chicago is just beginning, and Merit is running out of time.

You know a books good when...

You get angery at the fake politics. Usually I listen or read books to escape from the real world. Neill has a way of making characters so real I rant about these events to my friends almost as often.

Plot is Great!

So I'm really enjoying this series. If you love more human-like vampires, you will enjoy this series. The romance between our two main characters is pretty fantastic along with the main plot.

now I remember why I quit this series

the vampires are such huge sissies all the way until the end when one of them actually acts like the predators the are supposed to be in this universe.. the heroine is the biggest knuckle head of them all! zero common sense zero self awareness and zero ability to learn from past mistakes.. the jist of the series is well written enough for me to make it through half a dozen books while wishing she would show some personal growth but alas NO.. I give up because no series is worth screaming the entire time "you're so effin stupid " the entire time. grrrr

I've hit a wall

Unfortunately, I have to stop listening at chapter 10. I'm lost, can't pay attention and keep the story straight with the new narrator. I will attempt to finish the series reading it, but it's not likely since I don't have time to get significant amounts of reading done. There are a lot of books left, it could take me a very long time. Audible allows me to multitask and listen.

Deaths

This is the second time she described to people who were good people and were killed she mentions them right before their death give them life a personality then kills them off and makes it seem as if the good people don’t ever win yet what book are we on and Ethan‘s second doesn’t even have a personality yet
If somebody had to be killed off well why did they have to mention grandkids they were guarding vampires pleasant people nice people apologies I just really bugged me as if only the good people the decent people are murdered same affect without such a good personalities never mind sorry

Great series but

The author is trending towards way to much inner dialog and musings. It’s really starting to get on my nerves the past few books and I’m fast forwarding way too much

Highly trained warrior versus a kitchen knife?

In the first few chapters Merit gets beaten by an untrained women with a sharp stick and a random rioter with a kitchen knife. This is the highly trained sentinel. Right. And then Ethan was scared he’d “lost” the immortal vampire to a stab wound to the stomach. Is the best method to cause a dramatic situation available to make supposedly highly skilled fighters absolutely useless and able to be beaten by amateurs with kitchen utensils? An extremely annoying mechanism. And then? They charge into a building with an unknown number if unfriendlies and she tosses aside her sword to be “fair”. Just too many contrived scenarios and a plot line that was about as predictable as they come. This will be the last book I buy in this series.

You put down your katana?

I have loved this series, and I still do love the chemistry between the main characters, but there were too many times in Biting Bad where my reaction was just, "You did what? Idiot!" Merritt (sp? Hard to know these things when you've listened to all the books) throws down her katana to even the odds before a fight before she knows the caliber of her foe... and then gets her ass handed to her. A normal human nearly does her in at one point. It's really hard to buy her supposed fighting prowess. The ending felt convenient and easy. I didn't but too much of this novel.
