Publisher's Summary

A chubby little girl with blond hair, blue eyes, and ordinary looks, Victoria Dawson has always felt out of place in her family, especially in body conscious Los Angeles. Her parents are disappointed by their daughter’s looks.

Later in life, the one thing Victoria knows is that she has to get as far away from home as possible and, after college in Chicago (which her parents disapprove of), she moves to New York City. Landing her dream job as a high school teacher, Victoria finds joy and excitement working with her students by day--and by night continues to wage war on her weight among the sleek and buff at Manhattan’s fitness clubs. Victoria keeps a lifeline open to her family through her close relationship with her sister Gracie. For though they can’t be more different the two sisters love each other unconditionally. By contrast her parents, though across the country, still have an emotional hold on Victoria and instinctively seem to know just what to say to bring her down. Victoria knows she has been a disappointment to them all her life. No matter what she does, she can never win their approval.

When Grace announces her engagement to a man who is an exact replica of their handsome, materialistic, narcissistic father Victoria cannot help but feel even more ostracized, and like a failure once again. Ahead is a challenge and a risk: to accept herself as she is, celebrate it, and win the victories she has fought so hard for and deserves. Big girl or not, she is a gem!

"Please do not waste your time...."

This is my first and probably last Danielle Steel book. It was extremely repetitive and lacked character and story development. I had to make myself finish this book.

    "the WORST book ever!"

This book is so bad that I can't believe anyone would agree to print it and sell it! Steel repeats herself so many times that I became concerned that she has Alzheimer's Disease. The story is boring, predictable, and mind-numbing. Do not waste your time.

    "So much repetition!"

Repeat, repeat, repeat! This book could've been much shorter if not for all the repeating! A pretty good story line but just not terrific. Reminds me why I quit reading Danielle Steele a long time ago.

    "Boring"

This book was too repetitive and the idea that the main character was "a big girl" was just beat into the listener. The story was thin on plot and the author seems to be create this tale of woe about this big girl and how she overcomes her problems. Throughout the story she is less than 20 lbs overweight but is characterized as a big girl and she has major drama over her weight. The last half hour she overcomes all her problems in a way that just seems ridiculous. This book is just silly and overdramatizes the main characters issues. I just don't think 20 lbs qualifies as a big girl and I found it insulting. 20 lbs is not ideal but it does not cause major psychological issues either IMHO and that is the whole basis of this book.

    "Just OK"

This is the first Danielle Steel novel I have read/heard. The didn't seem to be much of a story or plot development, and it was repetative a lot of the time, but it was an enjoyable listen.

"world is full of big girls we need more books!"
Would you listen to Big Girl again? Why?

Yes I would read this again, I can identify with her plight!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Big Girl?

Her father telling her she was named after the queen. Her realization that the queen was considered ugly by all.

Have you listened to any of Kathleen McInerney’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no first time, i will listen to her again

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    yes, and i tried!, lol

    Any additional comments?

great read! we need more like this one!

    "A disapointment"

Not as good as many previous Danielle Steel books. Pass this one up and try Southern Lights or A Good Woman instead.

Worst book I've encountered, can't imagine who writes this trash. Would give it zero stars if I could.
