Publisher's summary

From NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Colleen Gleason, writing as Joss Ware, comes the award-winning paranormal romance series set in a devastated world.

Everything they knew is gone... From the remnants of devastation, five men emerge with extraordinary new powers. They are humankind's last hope, but they cannot survive this devastated world alone.

When Dr. Elliott Drake emerges from a cave after traveling fifty years through time, the world as he knew it is gone. Cities are overgrown jungles, and what's left of civilization has been repressed by crystal-wearing immortal beings. But even more unsettling: Elliott has acquired an extraordinary ability--the power to heal.

But even that gift, in a world that lacks the technology and infrastructure of his past, is a two-edged sword for Elliott.

Jade Kapiza, who'd been imprisoned by the immortal beings, has been in hiding for years. But now she's determined to help the human race fight back against the control of her captors. She can trust no one...but when Elliott comes into her life, he pushes at her defenses and begins to tear down the walls she's built so carefully.

Yet the mysterious doctor seems to have secrets of his own. Can Jade trust Elliott with her heart, even as they risk their lives to save a band of innocents?

And can Elliott find a new place for himself--a home--in this new, ravaged world?

Flat characters.

Struggled to finish this. Characters seem very shallow and one dimensional. Story line is interesting, if very predictable. Glad this came as part of a two for one holiday deal. Expected more from reading the description. Very disappointed.

This book had potential but falls short, hard.

I was hoping it was going to be better because the story line had enough originality while using a well-used idea of post apocalypse, I was intrigued. But the plot is full of holes and weak, and the characters are flat. The main characters have sex while there was a dead girl in the tub right next to them with blood everywhere, I was finished with this book at this point. Then the mayor comes in and doesn’t even notice the blood or smell that was a few pages ahead all over. Then they leave the compound and leaves the body with a person who has no idea of his ability to transfer wounds to clean up with no explanation. I was finished with this series at that point and debated finishing the book, which I didn’t. When the focus of the story was on how many lovers Jade could or could not have that was about when I gave up on the characters. And the speedy sex scene with Quint and Zoe was misplaced and in my opinion way too soon for their story. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is a post apocalypse book, there were to many details that are not realistic for that kind of story, as a romance there was no real connection besides looks. The x men part was interesting and I like that there were drawbacks to it, it did need to be fleshed out a bit more. Narrator was good.

This COULD have been such a good book

This is a romance novel ! A soft porn romance novel. I don't mind sex scenes but really it gets old fast when at least 25% of the story is about getting laid. The story line is different and could have been so good if it weren't for the constant long drawn out love making scenes . Its just that they were so long and drawn out and poorly written that I found my self fast forwarding the book.It really is a shame cause the basic story has a really different take on the end of the world .I have no idea how this book got any 5 star ratings.
