Publisher's summary

Author of the beloved Half-Moon Hollow series of vampire romances (Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs), Molly Harper has created a standalone paranormal romance in which a dilapidated haunted house could bring star-crossed lovers together - if it doesn’t kill them first!

When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he’s hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate - he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in 19th-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say “Boo.”

But Nina shows no signs of being scared away, even as she experiences some unnerving apparitions herself. And as the two of them work closely together to restore the mansion’s faded glory, Deacon realizes that he’s found someone who doesn’t seem to like his fortune more than himself - while Nina may have finally found the one man she can trust with her bruised and battered heart.

But something on the island doesn’t believe in true love…and if Nina and Deacon can’t figure out how to put these angry spirits to rest, their own love doesn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

Best book by author

I've read almost all of Molly Harper's books and this is easily my favorite one. I love that the main make character in this book is not the typical muscle bound guy but instead is highly intelligent and caring. My hope is the author will please continue this series.

Fun and suspenseful!

I really enjoyed this supernatural mystery, romance with a soupcon of well placed snark! Fun, and some evil, characters, dark family mysteries, ghosts, and a possession or two, not to mention characters you cheer for and others you'd like to, say dangle over the edge of a widow's walk!

This one was a flop.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I didn't finish it because it was too confusing. Molly Harper writes fun and funny books. Amanda Ronconi is a wonderful narrator and helps to make the books more enjoyable. She puts more life into the characters and the story. All of Molly Harper's other books are written in the first person and are a delight. This one was written in the 3rd person and that just isn't her strong suit. It was confusing, trying to keep the characters straight. I just got lost and stopped listening. I waited for this book to be released because I liked her other books so much, however, this one was disappointing. I won't give up, in fact, I am listening to the other books a second time and loving them as much as I did the first time.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'm not sure. I like light and funny. Guess I'll have to take a chance on another author as I have listened to all of Molly Harper's books.

Which scene was your favorite?

Didn't have one.

Do you think Better Homes and Hauntings needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. She needs to find something else to write about and write it in the first person.

A different kind of Molly Harper but still fun

What worked well about this story was the haunted house theme. Switching points of view to each of the four main characters was a little awkward at first but as the story warmed up it was fine. I would like to see more of Nina and Deacon. Fun chemistry there.

Great Ghost Story

Great story line about interesting characters, a little unbelievable but fun! Best thing is that there are no stupid undead Vampires in it!

Not a book I couldn't put down.

Like many others, I love this authors snarky, witty retorts and characters. This book had plenty of humorous zingers that kept me listening to the end BUT all of the characters were so similar in their humor and personality that I frequently lost track of which person was speaking, dreaming, or being "possessed". I also agree with some of the other reviewers who said that there were too many characters and none of them were very well developed. I just wasn't invested in any of them. Also the plot was terribly predictable- no surprises at all. I have enjoyed every previous audiobook with this author/narrator combination, so this was a first.

Characters are great, ghosts story not so much.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, The ghost story was sadly predictable but the characters and their interaction still makes it an enjoyable read.

Love Molly Harper

I have listened to all of Molly Harper's other books more than once. I loved all of them and laughed out loud several times. I was really excited to see a new one come out. I liked the book but it did not have the same appeal as her other 15 books I've listened to. Having said that, it is a cute fun story. Easy listening. Amanda Ronconi is one of my favorite narrators.

not her best

the story followed a well worn path with not a lot to recommend it. it had the snark foe which molly Harper is known for which kept the story from being identical to all the others but was actually boring i. spots

Molly Harper! What's not to love?

I truly adore anything by Molly Harper. Seriously, what's not to love? This is another who-dun-it w/mystery, solid characters, a great story build. It'll keep you guessing. If you're into the serious mysteries than this may not be for you. This is a fun read, gal pals, wealthy friends & a past murder or was it? It's spooky but won't keep you up at night. I preordered this & will preorder anything by Molly.

Between the author & narrator you can't go wrong.
