This was by far the worst book I have downloaded so far. This includes those that were poor in sound quality. I would give it less than 1 star if I could. It was my fault, I didn't read the synopsis carefully enough. I wasn't aware that it was a retread of one of Sandra Brown's first books. Just drivel that goes on far too long. And the narrator thinks that syncopating a southern accent captures the female voice. Not. It just makes it bothersome. It can't believe I wasted a credit on this and I use the term loosely - 'book'. One saving grace - Sandra Brown gets much, much better over time.
Typically a Sandra Brown novel read by Dick Hill is hard to beat. The fact that this story has a 1989 copyright, may help explain why this one falls far short of expectations; they were both learning then.
The Hero consistently confuses anger/violence with sex - not a likable trait. The Heroine is forever hostile and so immature, she makes the playboy character seem like an intellectual.
Of course, as in all romance novels, everyone has communication problems but this group of characters take it WAY past patience.
Dick Hill can usually rescue a failing book but not this time. His female voices just don't cut it.
Brown and Hill give a whole new meaning to "You've come a long way, Baby" and thank goodness.
Lots of suspense and twists. It held me right to the very end. Dick Hill is usually a great reader, but I thought his clipped words made everyone seem angry and pompous. Sandra Brown tells a great story, but the reader did not do the characters justice this time.
HATE spoilers! Enjoy HOT, sexy books w/a plot. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. Books outside HOT genre = books given to me to review
The constant 'Who dun it?' is the best.
The 3 men hitting on a woman 20+ years their junior-and the daughter of a woman they all loved was a bit creepy.
I'm not sure-perhaps changing the fact that Alexander was attracted to her mother's old boyfriends...
Yes, but as with most male narrator's his female characters sounded like effeminate men.
I'd consider it more of a mystery than a romance-so more romantic scenes may have made it a romance.
Good, 'clean' book...a few cusses and a PG romantic encounter.
Sandra Brown always tells a good story - this time is no different. When she is telling the story she introduces many characters and pretty soon you are getting ideas as to who could have committed the murder. There are some unexpected twists - but the ending is most satisfactory - and of course, their is passion and love!
No one I know
Spent more time on a real story and less time on sexist remarks from a jerk and his caveman behavior. Story had possibilities but fell flat!
I will be extermely careful when buying more of her books. She really missed the mark on this one.
Yes, I already have. The characters were interesting and diverse. Good story about everyday life.
Jane, I could relate to her even though our lives are quite different
No, actually since the majority of characters are female, I thought the narrator was female. Good job!
Yes but too long. I did stay up half the night to finish it.
I also got the kindle version so I could continue as desired. Also I like the way I can look up characters with kindle.
Nothing. The story was so boring and stupid. The main character is whiny, wimpy, annoying, and dumb. The guy she falls in love with is an old guy twice her age who is a total creep. The plot is beyond ridiculous and repetitive. The ending was the worst. Skip this one!
No, not at all. I love suspense/mysteries. I actually loved the other 4 books by Sandra Brown I've read. This one was just the worst one I've ever read.
All of them especially the corny sex scenes
Save your credit!
This is one of the few books I didn't want to listen to all the way through. I gave it a good try. I listened for five hours, put it aside for a long time, listened to three and a half more hours and then finally couldn't take it anymore and just suffered through the last hour to see if I was right on who the murderer was, I was. It's hard to like a book when you don't like the main character. She was just too hostile and immature. I also couldn't find many redeeming qualities in the other characters.
Sandra Brown is sort of a hit and miss author for me and this one was a total miss.
"A really good listen."
A very good romantic suspense story with memorable characters which I really enjoyed listening to.
