    "Worst book ever"

This was by far the worst book I have downloaded so far. This includes those that were poor in sound quality. I would give it less than 1 star if I could. It was my fault, I didn't read the synopsis carefully enough. I wasn't aware that it was a retread of one of Sandra Brown's first books. Just drivel that goes on far too long. And the narrator thinks that syncopating a southern accent captures the female voice. Not. It just makes it bothersome. It can't believe I wasted a credit on this and I use the term loosely - 'book'. One saving grace - Sandra Brown gets much, much better over time.

    "Falls short of expectations"

Typically a Sandra Brown novel read by Dick Hill is hard to beat. The fact that this story has a 1989 copyright, may help explain why this one falls far short of expectations; they were both learning then.
The Hero consistently confuses anger/violence with sex - not a likable trait. The Heroine is forever hostile and so immature, she makes the playboy character seem like an intellectual.
Of course, as in all romance novels, everyone has communication problems but this group of characters take it WAY past patience.
Dick Hill can usually rescue a failing book but not this time. His female voices just don't cut it.
Brown and Hill give a whole new meaning to "You've come a long way, Baby" and thank goodness.

    "Another great Sandra Brown novel!"

Lots of suspense and twists. It held me right to the very end. Dick Hill is usually a great reader, but I thought his clipped words made everyone seem angry and pompous. Sandra Brown tells a great story, but the reader did not do the characters justice this time.

    "Justice Revenge & Love"

Sandra Brown always tells a good story - this time is no different. When she is telling the story she introduces many characters and pretty soon you are getting ideas as to who could have committed the murder. There are some unexpected twists - but the ending is most satisfactory - and of course, their is passion and love!

"Ms. Brown's earlier formula fiction works well"

As an avid listener of Ms. Brown's fiction, I wasn't surprised to discover this was written almost 20 years ago...published in 1987. The formula, which she has developed very successfully in following books, shows its solid origins in this early work. Love the characters and characterizations of small town citizens of Texas---a fun who-done-it with enough plot twists to keep us listening. An easy listen that doesn't require too much attention---great when walking dogs, doing housework, driving.

""Best Kept Secrets" are best kept secret..."

Unwilling to continue torturing myself, to uncover the "Best Kept Secrets;" I stopped listening after 2 or 3 chapters. Another horrible Sandra Brown title!

    Story
    "Intrigue-Interesting-A Bit Strange Relationships"
What did you like best about Best Kept Secrets? What did you like least?

The constant 'Who dun it?' is the best.

The 3 men hitting on a woman 20+ years their junior-and the daughter of a woman they all loved was a bit creepy.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I'm not sure-perhaps changing the fact that Alexander was attracted to her mother's old boyfriends...

Did Dick Hill do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, but as with most male narrator's his female characters sounded like effeminate men.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

I'd consider it more of a mystery than a romance-so more romantic scenes may have made it a romance.

    Any additional comments?

Good, 'clean' book...a few cusses and a PG romantic encounter.

    "Disappointing Story - Good Narration"

I have read 3 novels by Sandra Brown, and this is the first one that I didn't enjoy. I was interested enough to finish the listen (Dick Hill has a great voice), but I found the story's characters unappealing, which is vital to a great book.

    "DYNAMIC DUO"
What made the experience of listening to Best Kept Secrets the most enjoyable?

The story line, of course, but also the narrator. If the narrator is hard to listen to and only "reads" the book, then the story looses its emphasis for me and I loose interest.

What did you like best about this story?

I couldn't figure out "who done it" until the last 1/4 of the book - that's also very important for me. I don't care about the drama, suspense, or storyline if I can figure out who the culprit was.

    "Love the writer...hated the book!"
    Any additional comments?

I am a huge Sandra Brown fan and have not read one of her books I did not like...until now. Their was not one likeable character in the whole story. It is one of the only books I have read where I prayed the "heroine" ended up with no one. Dick Hill did a fine job with the narration as usual and this will not stop me from continuing to read and listen to Ms. Brown. Maybe this one just wasn't my cup of tea.
