This was by far the worst book I have downloaded so far. This includes those that were poor in sound quality. I would give it less than 1 star if I could. It was my fault, I didn't read the synopsis carefully enough. I wasn't aware that it was a retread of one of Sandra Brown's first books. Just drivel that goes on far too long. And the narrator thinks that syncopating a southern accent captures the female voice. Not. It just makes it bothersome. It can't believe I wasted a credit on this and I use the term loosely - 'book'. One saving grace - Sandra Brown gets much, much better over time.
Typically a Sandra Brown novel read by Dick Hill is hard to beat. The fact that this story has a 1989 copyright, may help explain why this one falls far short of expectations; they were both learning then.
The Hero consistently confuses anger/violence with sex - not a likable trait. The Heroine is forever hostile and so immature, she makes the playboy character seem like an intellectual.
Of course, as in all romance novels, everyone has communication problems but this group of characters take it WAY past patience.
Dick Hill can usually rescue a failing book but not this time. His female voices just don't cut it.
Brown and Hill give a whole new meaning to "You've come a long way, Baby" and thank goodness.
Lots of suspense and twists. It held me right to the very end. Dick Hill is usually a great reader, but I thought his clipped words made everyone seem angry and pompous. Sandra Brown tells a great story, but the reader did not do the characters justice this time.
Sandra Brown always tells a good story - this time is no different. When she is telling the story she introduces many characters and pretty soon you are getting ideas as to who could have committed the murder. There are some unexpected twists - but the ending is most satisfactory - and of course, their is passion and love!
Narration was awful. To much drama and unnecessary anger.
Not up to par.
Male narrator was terrible. Stop doing female voices! Always sounded whiny and hysterical. Men's voice roles were interchangeable.
NO. The ending does not warrant a follow up.
I wasn't sure if I would like the male narrator since the other Sandra books were read by females but in the end his voice was great and suitable for who they became. I think this is a great book clearly dated in time now but reading it it could be placed in any time period and that is why I love it. No iPhones, no computers, nothing high tech. Just insanely dramatic story lines and love and lust. If anything I do think they make Alex seem a bit silly sometimes with her boldness, but I think it fits the character an independent woman in 1989 would have been assumed to be like. I loved the cowboy theme and the romances that developed and I am happy with this ending. Great read overall.
This was a difficult story to connect with. I almost just deleted the entire book before the end but paying for it motivated me to skip to the end to find out who was guilty. Should have been narrated by a woman , given she was the main character. All the sex was not needed, and actually took away from the already low quality of the book.
Yes! A good way to discover the secret is to listen while someone else reads.
The way the secret unfolds.
The voices of the characters.
I usually like Sandra Brown books, but I couldn't get through this one.
Dick Hill would do better to just read instead of doing simpering female voices.
The entire cast!
No one I know
Spent more time on a real story and less time on sexist remarks from a jerk and his caveman behavior. Story had possibilities but fell flat!
I will be extermely careful when buying more of her books. She really missed the mark on this one.
"A really good listen."
A very good romantic suspense story with memorable characters which I really enjoyed listening to.
