From USA Today best seller Meghan March comes a steamy new novel in the Beneath series. Beneath These Chains is the third book in the Beneath series but can be enjoyed as a full-length, standalone romance.
I was raised on the streets, so I know things are rarely as simple as they appear - especially this rich girl showing up at my pawnshop demanding a job. She's the most tempting thing I've ever seen, and I'll be damned if I can make her leave. S--t just got complicated...but when it comes to her, I want complicated. We're both fighting our own demons, and our only chance at a future is to let go of the past. But will we be strong enough to break free from beneath these chains?

Beneath These Chains is another great addition to the series! While I found books one and two had more intensity and depth, there is no denying I LOVED Lord's character. He was confident, fiercely protective, sexy as sin, and wasn't afraid to go after what he wanted. Lord was all alpha, but never tried to dominated Elle. He encouraged her, and accepted her for who she truly was. With no doubt, Lord was an awesome!
Elle's an independent flirt from the rich side of the town, who plows her way into Lord's life, and doesn't take no for answer. She's searching for something and hoping with Chain's voodoo magic, it will magically find it's way to Lord's pawnshop. So when she goes to Chain's hoping to get hired, she wasn't taking "no" for answer.
Lord suspects there's an alternative motive for Elle's wanting to work at his pawnshop, but for now he's willing to indulge her. From day one, the sexual tension and chemistry between them was hot, but Elle's best friends with his brother's girlfriend, so he's determine not to give in to his desires. However, when a rival comes to Chains, and tries to lay a claim to Ellie, Lord's protective instincts kick in, and he publically claims her. To keep her safe from others, he demands to be the one to take her back and forth to work. For Lord, it becomes more than just trying to keep her safe, he's playing for keeps and works to breakdown her walls and reel her in.
Lord comes under suspension when a few acquaintances turn up dead, and when the murder weapon is found, he will have to do his own investigating to ensure the real murder is revealed.
The narration is AWESOME! York and Arndt are two of my favorite narrators, and I love their performances! This duo does a fantastic job bringing the story and characters to life.
A highly addictive series, which I've fallen in love with. It's a light listen with a good balance of angst, romance, sexy witty banter and suspense. Well worth the time and credit!
I've listened to it 2-3 times already. I really love this series. The heroes are all strong but deep caring gentlemen and Lord is the most gentlemanly of the three so far.
My favorite character was Elle. I loved how tenacious and stubborn she was.
Great series, STELLAR narrators. Andi Arndt and Sebastian York are my favorites, especially together.
I can't wait for Beneath These Scars!
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
Elle's timing was perfect when she arrived at Chains Pawn Shop because Lord, the hot as Hell owner, was just kicking his Assistant out and she grasped the chance to work there - flaunting her sassy self in and refusing to go until she was hired. Lord had seen the privileged Princess before because she was best friends with his Brother's girlfriend (bk 2) and he couldn't allow himself to be tempted by the fiery sexy and stubborn redhead. But Elle was determined because she had her reasons as to why she needed to work there and so just wouldn't take no for an answer.... and before Lord knew it not only had he somehow hired her but he was picking her up and dropping her off from work each day too.
They both had read each other wrong as, in this case, outward appearances lied. Their sexual chemistry was explosive and, even though Elle kept flirting and taunting her 'assets' at him, Lord tried to remain focussed but when a local badass gang leader started sniffing around Elle it was game over because Lord had to claim her before someone far worse did. However, the spunky beauty never ceases to shock and surprise him because yes, she wants him just as badly as he wants her - but only for sex and nothing more.... but Lord realizes that that option is not going to work for him because, for the first time, he wants more. This starts off a battle of wills, fun snarky sexually charged banter and their relationship becomes a pressure keg waiting to explode until finally someone has to give in..... and, with a handsome, intensely sexy, tattooed, penis pierced, eight-pack wielding, dirty talking sneaky Alpha opponent Elle didn't stand a chance (and I don't blame her either).
Then the murders start happening, suspicions and finger pointing grow, the gang leader ups his advances and Elle's dysfunctional home life is about to implode when her Step-Father threatens divorce and demands that she should return home.... and, once again, the body count rises.
A quirky but really enjoyable story because in this listen the roles are flipped as it's the heroine who has the 'no strings' sexual attitude which makes a strong and powerful hero have to keep his cards close, watch and carefully play each one just at the right time to win an emotional mind game. All whilst trying to protect her, possess her, knock her walls down and resist her lust filled advances as he tries to lure her over to his way of thinking..... because he wants much much more than just one night.
Worth a credit? A good storyline.... suspense, romance, angst, quick witted banter, an Alpha hero with a marshmallow heart, a heroine who gives as good as she gets, plenty of hot sex scenes and a who and why secondary murder plot keeps you ensnared in this listen. And the narrators did a great job bringing the sass, the tension, the lust and the passion to the character's voices which took this book from a 3.5 and dropped it into a 4 star creditworthy addition to the series. Dual POV's and it could be a stand-alone listen.
This was the BEST book in the series so far!! Lorde is just so..... DAYUM!! The narration was really good too. Alot of times dual narration misses the mark for me, but these 2 nailed it!!
I've listened to all 3 in this series and this one is the best so far.
I want to point out that Sebastian York did a much better job in this book than the 2nd one in the series. He left out the Cajun accent Thank God. That was really distracting in the last book.
Andi Arndt is so good that you can't say enough about her performance as always.
This story is slow to start and a bit flat with a little bit of eye rolling, but it does gather strength as the story goes on.
Hot and steamy just like in the 2nd book. Lord and Elle do take it to a 😳 WOW level.
I read beneath this ink and wanted to read more from this author. But this one was too light on story and to heavy on unnecessary sex. I did not feel connected to the characters even though I liked them. I guess I just didn't believe their love story as much, no fun sexy tension or anything.
This is my 4th book in the series and I would say the weakest. I didn't feel the same intense chemistry that I did in the other books. All the books are about tatted up bad boys but I think Lord was the coarsest of them all so far. Obviously the guys swear but I felt like "God damn" was really overused throughout. Maybe I just noticed it more because this story didn't pull me in the way the others did???
I am addicted to audiobooks. It makes my 1 hour (each way) commute go by without me becoming an agressive driver. lol
I started listening to Meghan March's books and liked the first few, so I just continued. I really like each of the books in this series. So far, not any one over another. Each has a unique story. Meghan does a great job of being creative in each of her stories. Same basic theme with different names, characters and plots. But, very similar in style. The narrators were excellent. Love Sebastian York and Andi Arndt. They are a good team and I love listening to them. I can see the characters in my minds eye because Meghan has done such a great job of developing them and the narrators have done such a great job of creating a voice for each. Looking forward to more of Meghan's work.
"this book is the best so far in the series."
characters very imaginable, good narrators. much better than the second book and an under story too
"4.5 Super sexy stars"
Whoa! These 'Beneath' boys are just getting better and better. Lord is just my perfect guy, he is all hot sexy alpha, yet unlike most he is not afraid of commitment. In fact he is unusual in that he wants a committed relationship with a woman he loves and trusts. That said he is not a walkover who will let his woman get away with anything. He was refreshing. Elle in this scenario is actually the one not looking for commitment, but when it comes down to it she is not adverse to trying different things, thankfully she's trying them with Lord. Lord owns a pawn shop and Elle wants job there, she won't take no for an answer, things start to get a little heated when dead bodies start popping up around them and all Lord's protective instincts come out to play. The story, so well written, in dual POV, kept me intrigued right to the point of the big 'reveal'. Lots of emotions, good and bad, and the chemistry between Lord and Elle is up there with the best of the best. Book for I'm coming for you.
"Another brilliant book from Meghan March"
probably number 2
The marriage at the end
They are brilliant. They bring the characters to life and have the perfect voices for each character
Definitely one of the best books I have ever read
"sterotypcial rubbish subliminal racist undertones"
So here is the overriding theme across the series.
1. White women are portrayed as being irresistible
2. Black men are protrayed as bad boy gang bangers and generally end up dead or trying to save the white women
3. Creole women are protrayed as maids or mistresses
4. Black women are protrayed as thieves.
This is a book based upon fantasy, you can literally create your own characters. Yet the author still made a choice to play into stereotypes! do not waste your money.
