Publisher's summary

My name is Roman Cavenaugh and I'm kind of an a--hole. Running a company isn't easy, especially when everyone expects you to fail. So being a jerk? It comes with the territory. I don't have time to mess around, and I sure as hell didn't see her coming.

Cara Hamilton she was supposed to be off limits...a temporary employee brought in during my assistant's maternity leave.

But, in the blink of an eye, she became so much more. An obsession I couldn't shake.

So yeah, I may be an a--hole, but now, I finally had a purpose, and soon, she would be mine.

All's fair in love and war...

A GOOD ROMANCE WITH ALL THE RIGHT FEELS

Roman Cavanaugh's in charge of a multimillion dollar empire, he's rich, he's got the looks, the body and the sex appeal.. but he feels empty, lonely and isn't happy. At a tender age he'd overheard his Father saying he was cute but dumb and would be no good so, for a while, Roman proved to be that very thing. He never had a choice over his career - instead it was a foregone conclusion but he wasn't his Father's first choice.. no, it was Roman's younger brother Jude who was the golden child and Roman was woefully overlooked. However, Jude didn't take the helm when his Father died and it was left up to Roman to step in.. but he hated it, was bad tempered and took it out on anyone and everyone that crossed his path. That is until ditsy Cara, his new under qualified quirky temporary Assistant, blinked her big brown eyes at him and he was lost - however Roman made a good attempt to resist the pull between them because he was her boss and anyway Cara was living with her boyfriend. But Roman wasn't a patient man and it didn't take him long to concoct a devious plan... a plan that ultimately was going to be his downfall.

Cara was from a small town in Nebraska but had come to NYC to join her long time boyfriend Tyler but it was all proving a little difficult for her to fit in - her clothes were old, she was unemployed, she had relationship troubles and Cara felt a little out of her depth. Then she landed the job as Administrative Assistant to the handsome but closed off Roman Cavenaugh and her life would never be the same again because she would experience frustration, betrayal, heartbreak, heavenly highs and some earthshattering lows. And at the centre of it all was Roman's fingerprints.

This was a nicely paced enjoyable dual POV love story where there was a few obstacles standing in Roman's way before he could get the woman he had become obsessed about. And Cara, well she couldn't help but be drawn to Roman as her hopes and dreams for a future with Tyler faded to gray. Cara was a friendly, polite, calm, down-to-earth Heroine and very sweet too and Roman.. ahhh Roman, well, once the layers were slowly peeled back his true personality came out and it was great to see him flourish. There was good banter, some sexy bits, passion, low drama, a wee bit of angst a revelation.. and a touching Epilogue too. It wasn't over-filled with sex but when it did err come it was hot. Bit of an 'instant' thing once H/H got together but it didn't spoil my overall enjoyment of a very addictive listen. Great narration too.

Worth a credit? YES - this was much more than I'd hoped for as Cara took the time to see the man behind the beast and Roman strengthened Cara's weaknesses, encouraged her true potential, could see beyond her clothes and was there when she needed a friend, there when she fell.. and there when she picked herself up again. This is book 3 in the Within These Walls Duet - books 1 & 2 are little brother Jude's story which spans two books, I haven't listened to them yet and it didn't alter my enjoyment of this listen at all as this book could've been a standalone.. however, I'm sure they'll end up my cart soon.

✫✫ 3.5 Stars ✫✫

3.5 stars because of the insta-love. I can not seem to connect with a love story when the couple knows each other 2 weeks and are madly in love, it just doesn't work for me. Besides that I liked the storyline! I wanted Roman to get his HEA and I wanted him to be a good guy and I got that and more!

Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors is the tale of Midwestern native coming to the BIG Apple. But as her life is supposed to be turning into an episode of Friends, it seems more like a nightmare.

Her relationship
Her job
Her life

None of it is what she imagined and worse she craves more. Dangerously craves more...like her ridiculously hot grump of a boss.

Meh

Even though most of these types of stories are predictable, sometimes the author is able to throw in a twist or surprise. I didn't get that with this one. The male narrator was very dull. I found myself rewinding a lot to re "read" what I just listened to. I really wanted to like the book. It had great potential. By about half way through, I just wanted to finish it.

Good story!!

What did you love best about Behind Closed Doors?

It was entertaining and interesting.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked Cara's character, she made the book interesting. It was sad when she found out her boyfriend cheated on her. Too bad, they couldn't remain friends, considering they known each other for a long time.

Which scene was your favorite?

The Bar scene, when she punches Roman and not knowing it was her boss. That was funny.

Story was ok. Narration was lacking.

The story was ok. Predictable but no complaints. My only complaint is that both narrators seemed to totally miss the meaning of the words when a character spoke. They read it so deadpan and without inflection (or weird, wrong inflection). It kind of drove me nuts the whole time. Again, it was fine, but I think the story would have been a ton better if read by people who understood the mood and meaning behind the words. I feel like they focused too much on trying to do sultry voices instead.

Hard to finish

I don’t get this story. Roman isn’t as mean and broody as the author thinks he is. Cara is supposed to be smart but doesn’t know how to use a smartphone? The tv show Friends is mentioned way to many times as it’s outdated and not even good. Was Roman always meant to take over the business or not? That wasn’t consistent.

Not the best

The male narration was the worst..he sounded like he was 30 years order than Tara. The story of Roman in beginning seemed too sexually forced on his part.

Predictable and vanilla. Underwhelming spice

The plot was fine, the spice was mild at best. Writing was like 5/10
